SAUDI ARMED FORCES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE (SAFCSC) VISIT

PUTRAJAYA, 9 Jan 24 - Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC) received a visit from SAUDI ARMED FORCES COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE (SAFCSC) at PUSPAHANAS. The SAFCSC delegation was headed by Major General Mohammed Jadouq Alsulaiman Alruwaili, The Commander Of Saudi Armed Forces Command And Staff College and also attended by Colonel Turki Abdullah Alsheref, the Saudi Defence Attache consisting of 12 Officers who were greeted by Brig Jen Zamsari bin Abu Hasan, the Commandant of Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College and MAFSC Staff Officers. The visit began with the courtesy call from SAFCSC Commander to the President of PUSPAHANAS, Vice Admiral Datuk Sabri bin Zali with all the Colleges Commandants in attendance. Upon completion of that, the delegation was taken for a walking brief by the MAFSC Commandant assisted by Lt Kol Dr. Mahendra a/l K. Sekaran Nair, the GSO 1 Training to visit the facilities available in PUSPAHANAS and MAFSC.
The session was continued with the welcoming address by the MAFSC Commandant and MAFSC brief by Lt Kol Suresh a/l Subramaniam the GSO 1 Training Development at Kalam Azad meeting room. After the briefing, the SAFCSC delegation was invited for a lunch.
The visit concluded with the signing the visitor book, exchange of mementos between the MAFSC and SAFCSC and the group photo session at MAFSC main lobby. This visit was held as the platform for knowledge sharing between both colleges which an excellent and memorable experiences, besides to strengthen the warm and cordial relationship between MAFSC and SAFCSC.

MALAYSIAN ARMED FORCES STAFF COLLEGE NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICER PROMOTION CEREMONY

13 Dec 2023 - The Faculty Members and Directing Staffs of Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College witnessed a promotion ceremony of Non-Commissioned Officer of MAFSC. The promotion ceremony was performed by the Commandant of MAFSC, Brig Jen Zamsari bin Abu Hasan. The ceremony was also witnessed by the Head of Department. The auspicious event began with the rank promotion of Sjn Norulaslinda binti Sudin to SSjn, Kpl Muhammad Nor Safuan bin Nor Azman to Sjn, LKpl Fatin Akilah binti Yusoh to Kpl and Pbt Shafiq bin Ramli to LKpl.

Congratulations to all the NCO’s for the promotion and hopefully with the promotion would inspire all the staff to perform their duties relentlessly for the college.

MALAYSIAN COMMAND AND STAFF COURSE (JOINT) MCSCJ SERIAL 52/2023 OVERSEAS COURSE PARTICIPANT PROMOTION CEREMONY

11 Dec 2023 - The Faculty Member Directing Staff and Course Participants (CP) of the Malaysian Command and Staff Course (Joint) MCSCJ Serial 52/2023 witnessed a promotion ceremony of an Overseas Course Participant (OCP) from the Royal Australian Navy. Lt Cdr Andrew Michael Shiels was promoted to the rank of Commander in an auspicious occasion held at the Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC).

The ceremony was attended by the Commandant of MAFSC, Brig Jen Zamsari bin Abu Hasan together with Head of Departments as the guest of honour of the event. The Commandant and Lt Cdr Andrew spouse was given the honour to attach the rank to Cdr Andrew.

The Commandant congratulated Cdr Andrew later and posed for group photos together with the Head of Departments (HOD).

Cdr Andrew was the one of the Overseas Course Participant (OCP) for Malaysian Command and Staff Course (Joint) MCSCJ Serial 52/2023 who just graduated on 9 Dec 23 after completing a year of his study in MAFSC.

THE INDUCTION CEREMONY OF 16TH MEMBER OF THE MALAYSIAN ARMED FORCES STAFF COLLEGE HALL OF FAME

The Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC) had successfully conducted the Induction Ceremony of 16th Member of The Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College Hall of Fame to the honouree YBhg Gen Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Mohd Asghar Khan bin Goriman Khan RMAF, the Chief of Air Force on 11 August 2023 at HIKMAT Hall.

The induction ceremony was part of college event which was conducted prestigiously and solemnly to acknowledged the achievements of an all the incredible officers who was once a Course Participant of the College and has continued on to rise to the highest position of respective service in the Malaysian Armed Forces.

The ceremony was solemnized by the YBhg Gen Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hj Affendi bin Buang RMAF, the Chief of Defence Force, who is also the Chairman of the College Board of Governors together with all the Members of the College Board of Governors. Also present were the senior officers from YBhg Gen Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Mohd Asghar Khan bin Goriman Khan RMAF Cohort 28/1999 members, senior officers from the MAF, PUSPAHANAS President, Faculty Members, Directing Staffs and Course Participants of Malaysian Command and Staff Course (Joint) Serial 52/2023.

The ceremony began with the Proclamation and Unveiling Ceremony of 16th Member Hall of Fame by Brig Gen Dato’ Hj Semaon bin Hj Marjuki, the Commandant of MAFSC, followed by the Photo Placement by the Chief of Air Force at the Hall of Fame Gallery corner with other photos of College Hall of Fame Members. PUSPAHANAS is a prestigious Malaysian Armed Forces Education Institution that was established in 1967 for the senior military officer level, focusing on leadership development and the roles and responsibilities of senior officers.

YBhg Gen Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Mohd Asghar Khan bin Goriman Khan RMAF, the guest of honour began his military career in Royal Military College and continued his excellent achievements in attending the Malaysian Command and Staff Course of MAFSC cohort 28/1999 together with other courses, both locally and abroad. The recognition he has earned as a result of his extraordinary and unbreakable effort should be emulated by the current generation.

The ceremony was concluded with the presentation of mementos by the Commandant to the guest of honour. Congratulations to the 20th Chief of the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

MAFSC VISIT GKS CSC AND STELS SINGAPORE

The Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC) made a visit to the Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College (GKS CSC) as a part of an annual reciprocal event to maintain the two institutions' close professional ties. The event was held from July 19 July to July 21 2023.

The objective of the tour is to familiarize the CPs with the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), specifically their Professional Military Education (PME) system. The visit also provides a welcoming environment for all CPs to communicate with their peers across international boundaries.

Brigadier General Dato' Hj Semaon bin Hj Marjuki, Commandant of the MAFSC, led the delegation of 21 Faculty Members and Directing Staff and 120 CPs, including 33 Oversea CPs. The visit began with an opening speech by Col Goh Wee Tiong, Commandant of GKS CSC, followed by a briefing on SAFTI and GKS CSC. Meanwhile, a presentation on the leadership module was given based on the case study titled Rescue of a Thai Football Team followed by a combined physical training session. During the CPs carry out their activities, the VIP delegation had the opportunity to visit former Ford Factory in enlighten the delegates on the historical events during Japanese occupations in Word War II.

The visit ended with the exchange of memento between MAFSC and GKS CSC followed with collective photo session.
Throughout the tour to Singapore, the delegation was given an opportunity to visit ST Engineering Land Systems (STELS) which is comprises of group of companies that support Singapore’s national defence, primarily mastering in science of defence engineering.

FIREPOWER TRAINING 2023 (FPT 23)

15 Jul 2023 GEMAS – The annual Firepower Training 2023 (FPT 23) was successfully conducted at the Gemas Range in the presence of Jeneral Tan Sri Datuk Seri Mohammad bin Ab Rahman, Chief of Army. The FM/DS and Course Participants (CP) of the Malaysian Command and Staff Course (MCSC) Serial 52/2023 attended the FPT as part of the college’s Southern Region Capabilities and Operational Studies (SRCOS) program.

The FPT has always been an important event in the MCSC’s calendar as it provides the CP with an opportunity to witness the battlefield effects and ranges of direct and indirect fire weapon platforms. Most importantly, FPT provides the CP with an understanding of joint fires coordination and effects involving the Malaysian Army, Navy and Air Force. In addition, the knowledge gained from FPT will assist CP to improve their joint operational planning skills which supports command decision making through improved awareness of the employment of joint firepower capabilities.

FPT this time also presented live shots from the PUTD reconnaissance aircraft, the MD 400, which has just entered service this year. An interesting performance can be seen in the aerial manoeuvre performed that have mesmerised the audience throughout the FPT.

Brig Jen Dato’ Hj Semaon bin Hj Marjuki, Commandant of the Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC) conveyed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Chief of Army, 3rd Inf Div and the FPT team for that memorable occasion.

THE CHIEF OF ARMY KEYNOTE ADDRESS ON ARMY 4 NEXTG: CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS FOR OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY AND EFFECTIVENESS

PUTRAJAYA, 14 July 2023 – The Chief of Army, Jeneral Tan Sri Datuk Seri Mohammad bin Ab Rahman, delivered his keynote address to the Malaysian Command and Staff Course Joint (MCSCJ) Cohort Serial 52/2023 entitled “Army 4 NextG: Challenges and Prospects for Operational Efficiency and Effectiveness” at HIKMAT Hall, Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC), Putrajaya. In attendance were the Assistant Chief of Staff Planning and Development Branch, Mej Jen Dato' Ahmad bin Abu Bakar and the MAFSC Commandant, Brigedier Jeneral Dato’ Hj Semaon bin Hj Marjuki.

The event began with the Chief of Army presentation, followed by the question and answer session by the audiences. The detailed explanation and generous knowledge sharing by the Chief of Army was very valuable and beneficial to the Course Participants (CP). The keynote address covered and stressed on the challenges faced by the Malaysian Army operations and adaptation of capabilities in multi domain threats as part of actualisation of the Army 4 NextG. The CP undoubtedly benefited from the session which could be used in future.

The Keynote Address concluded with the presentation of mementoes by the Commandant of Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College to the Chief of Army as a token of appreciation and a group photo session with all.

MCSCJ SER 52/2023 KAJIMATAN VISIT

Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC) has successfully conducted Security and Development Field Research (KAJIMATAN) visits for the Course Participants (CPs) of the Malaysian Command and Staff Course Joint (MCSCJ) serial 52/2023. The visit was conducted from 4 to 7 Jul 23 to Hat Yai, Thailand and Langkawi Island, Kedah as part of the academic requirement of the course. The objectives of the visit were: to identify the security and development issues and challenges within the economic development areas. On top of that was to identify on the various forms of security and development threats, to review the efforts pursued on development effort in the past, present and determine the direction of the future concepts in economic areas.

The visit was headed by the Commandant of the MAFSC and the delegation include Faculty Members, Directing Staffs, NDUM Lecturers and Course Participants. In Hat Yai, CP’s were very fortunate to witness discussions from the Prince of Songkhla University (PSU) representative on current issues related to security in Thailand on the first day and a site visit to the Na Mor Sri Village which was one of the government project under the PSU supervisory on the second day.

The subsequent visit was to Naval Region 3 Headquarters (MAWILA 3) in Langkawi on the third day and resume with the Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) and State Economic Planning Unit of Kedah and Perlis briefings on the fourth day. In Langkawi, the CPs were exposed with the collaboration between MAF playing their roles and how the acceptance and support from the Government Authorities in strengthening security in Langkawi and territorial waters area. The KAJIMATAN visit concluded with the presentation of mementoes as appreciation to the units and authorities involved in the visits.

MCSCJ SERIAL 52/2023 DEFENCE INDUSTRY VISIT 1 (DIV 1)

The Malaysian Command and Staff Course Joint (MCSCJ) Serial 52/2023 went for the Defence Industry Visit 1 (DIV 1) which was held on 22 Jun 23. This was the first visit and was headed by Brig Jen Dato’ Hj Semaon bin Hj Marjuki, the commandant of Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC). The visit include of 26 Faculty Members/Directing Staff, and 180 course participants (CP) who visited various defence industry related companies. The companies visited include CENDANA AUTO Sdn Bhd, TH HEAVY Engineering Bhd, AVP Engineering (M) Sdn Bhd, STRIDE and Galaxy Aerospace.

The DIV 1 visit was part of the academic requirement for the Defence Management subject. The representative of the corporate team presented their capabilities including their involvement in the defence industry and supporting for the present and emerging capabilities development of the Malaysian Armed Forces. The briefing elucidates the CP of the benefits local defence has for industrial growth and self-reliance. They also had the chance to visit the company facilities and the trip was undoubtedly beneficial to them. Future military leaders had valuable exposures on the capabilities and roles of defence industry development in efforts to strengthen the nation's security.

AIR OPERATIONS COMMANDER LECTURE ON LEADERSHIP, COMMAND AND MANAGEMENT IN CONTEMPORARY ENVIRONMENT

PUTRAJAYA, 19 June 23 - The Course Participants of Malaysian Command and Staff Course (Joint) Serial 52/2023 were very fortunate to have Lt Gen Datuk Mohd Shahada bin Ismail RMAF, the Air Operations Commander to share his views in the perspective of air operation with regards to Leaderships, Command and Management in Contemporary Environment. The lecture was held at Hikmat Hall, MAFSC.

The session also continued with questions and answer from course participants which allowed them to seek views of Air Operations Commander on his opinion becoming future leaders. There were active participation from the Course Participants of which answers were quite insightful.

The session ended with the presentation of mementoes by Brig Gen Dato Hj Semaon bin Hj Marjuki, the Commandant of Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College to Lt Gen Datuk Mohd Shahada bin Ismail RMAF as a token of appreciation. It was indeed a precious and valuable experience sharing to the course participants on endeavours and challenges faced in contemporary environment.

NORTHERN REGION CAPABILITY AND OPERATIONAL STUDY (NRCOS)

Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC) has successfully completed it’s NRCOS visit for the Course Participants (CPs) of the Malaysian Command And Staff Course Joint (MCSCJ) serial 52/23. The visit was conducted from 12 until 16 June 23 as part of the academic requirement for the course. Apart from that, a preliminary Central Briefing were conducted in between of 6,7 and 9 June 23 as additional program before implementation of the visit.

The objectives of the visit are to expose CPs to MAF’s capability and operational role in the joint environment, to appreciate the capabilities of the MAF entity in executing its primary roles within the region and recognise challenges faced by services in fulfilling their roles and task with limited capabilities in the Northern Region.

The visit was headed by the Commandant of the MAFSC and involved 32 Faculty Members and Directing Staff and 180 CPs, including 33 Oversea CPs. Focusing on the MAF’s capability in Northern Regions, NRCOS visit was conducted in five phases starts from Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) assets in Lumut Naval Base. CP’s able to participate in ship visit onboard KD MAHAWANGSA and KD INDERA SAKTI in order to appreciate the factual naval experiences and limitation.

Then, in the context of Royal Malaysian Airforce (RMAF) involved with the headquarters and assets from Butterworth Air Base, Kuantan Air Base and Gong Kedak Air Base. CP’s had an opportunity to have a briefing from the RMAF operating squadron such as No 3 Sqn, No 10 Sqn, No 12 Sqn, No 18 Sqn and 320 Sqn on the air operation perspectives followed by a compress information of the Headquarters of Integrated Area Defence System (HQIADS) of the role and functions of in collaboration with MAF. The visit on the RMAF then continued with a site visit before ending with an aircraft static display.

Throughout the visit to HQ 2 Div, Tun Razak Camp in Bayan Lepas, the delegations were given an opportunity to undergo the clarification of the task, responsibilities and challenges of respective operation in the northern sector of Peninsular Malaysia. The NRCOS visit ended with the presentation of a memento as an appreciation to the units involved in this visit.

ROYAL THAI ARMY COMMAND AND GENERAL STAFF COLLEGE (RTA CGSC) VISIT

PUTRAJAYA, 2 June 23 - Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC) received a visit from Royal Thai Army Command and General Staff College (RTA CGSC) at PUSPAHANAS. The RTA CGSC delegation was headed by Lieutenant General Sunsern Klaikaew and Major General Gunn Stithyudhakaran consisting of 2 Directing Staffs and 76 Student Officers who were greeted by Mej Jen Datuk Mohd Nizam bin Hj Jaffar, the Commandant of National Resilience College (NRC) representing PUSPAHANAS President and Brig Jen Dato’ Hj Semaon bin Hj Marjuki, the Commandant of MAFSC.

The visit commenced with the quarter guard inspection by Lieutenant General Sunsern Klaikaew and signing of the visitor’s book at the MAFSC Lobby.

The RTA CGSC delegation was briefed with the welcoming address by Kol Nizam bin Hj Che Ani, the Deputy Commandant of MAFSC followed with the briefing on MAF by the representative from MAF HQ, Lt Kol Syed Faisal bin Syed Abdul Kadir RMAF and the on MAFSC by Lt Kol Suresh a/l Subramaniam the GSO 1 Training Development.

After the briefing, the RTA CGSC delegation was invited to an evening tea at PUSPAHANAS Pavilion. The visit concluded with the exchange of mementos between the MAFSC and RTA CGSC and the group photo session at PUSPAHANAS main stairs. This program strengthened the warm and cordial relationship between MAFSC and RTA CGSC, and it was an excellent experience for participants from both colleges.

PUTRAJAYA, 19 MAY 2023 – The Chief of Defence Force Malaysia, General Tan Sri Dato' Sri Hj Affendi bin Buang delivered his keynote address to the Malaysian Command and Staff Course (MCSC) Cohort 52/23 entitled "The Malaysian Armed Forces; Challenges and Strategy in Performing Its Primary and Secondary Roles" at the National Centre for Defence Studies (PUSPAHANAS), Putrajaya.

In attendance was the President of the National Centre for Defence Studies, Vice Admiral Dato' Zulhelmy bin Ithnain, the Commandant Of National Resilience College, Mejar Jeneral Datuk Mohd Nizam bin Hj Jaffar, the Commandant of the Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC), Brigadier General Dato' Hj Semaon bin Hj Marjuki and the Director General of Training of National Centre for Defence Studies, Brigadier General Jafri bin Sulaiman.

The highlights of the keynote address began with the distinguished guest's presentation and ended with the Q and A session, which the MAFSC's Commandant moderated. The cursory explanation and generous knowledge sharing by the Chief of Defence Force Malaysia gave the Course Participants (CP) an insight into the challenges faced and a general overview of the MAF National Military Strategy. The keynote address by the Chief of Defence Force Malaysia marks a significant milestone for the CP in the quest for knowledge and academic excellence.

DINERS CLUB 1 MCSCJ SERIAL 52/2023

Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC) once again had organised Diner’s Club 1 as one of its annual academic activities on 18 May 2023 at Bangi Resort Hotel, Bangi, Selangor.
The MAFSC Diners Club1 is one of the most highly anticipated annual events of the college. Diners Club 1 is a planned activity which is held with the intention of enriching MAFSC Course Participants (CP) with the knowledge pertaining to various current issues at national, regional and global perspectives. At the same time, CP will be able to meet and hear from an eminent guest speaker and enhance their knowledge of contemporary issues. This will also be promoting education and social interaction among all attendees. It is conducted during dinner time and involves a talk from a prominent guest speaker. Diner’s Club 1 involved 217 people including the Faculty Members and Directing Staff of MAFSC and 180 local and overseas CP. The guest of honour this time was YB Tuan Mohd Rafizi bin Ramli, Minister of Economy who delivered an engaging talk on “Economy Budget - Boost the National Defence Budget towards the Good Governance”.

The program began with dinner followed by the talk by the Honourable Minister and subsequently a question and answer session moderated by Prof Dr. Adam Leong Kok Wey, the Distinguish Fellow of MAFSC from the National Defence University of Malaysia (NDUM). Also present on the night were Vice Admiral Dato’ Zulhelmy bin Ithnain, President of the National Centre for Defence Studies, Mej Jen Datuk Mohd Nizam bin Hj Jaffar, Commandant of National Resilience College and Brig Gen Dato' Hj Semaon bin Hj Marjuki, Commandant of MAFSC. The ceremony ended with a presentation of memento to the Honourable Minister by the MAFSC Commandant.

CULTURAL & INTERNATIONAL NIGHT AND EID CELEBRATIONS OF MAFSC

14 May 2023. The Eid Celebration and Cultural & International Night celebrations of Malaysian Command & Staff Course Joint (MCSCJ) Serial 52/2023 were successfully organized at Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC) in PUSPAHANAS on Sunday, 14 May 2023. The event was completed as part of the co-curricular activities of the course. The ceremony was also attended by the Vice Chancellor of National Defence University (NDUM), Lt Gen Datuk Hasagaya bin Abdullah, and the Commandant of MAFSC, Brig Jen Dato Haji Semaon bin Marjuki together with their spouse. Among the distinguished guests are the Defence Attache (DA) and representatives from overseas participant countries. Three different events, the Eid celebration, cultural night, and international night are held simultaneously symbolic of the merger and unification of all the different festivals and cultures between various countries. The objectives of this event are to accentuate the diversity of culture, traditions, and delicacies of Malaysian Course Participants (MCP) and Oversea Course Participants (OCP). This year, this wonderful occasion was also joined by spouses and family, making it the biggest participation of the college event.

This celebration also showcases the unique multicultural unity and acceptance, with the theme of this year is ”Embracing our cultural differences, strengthen our bonds”. The concept was an Eid celebration at the village, all three divisions embrace different cultures and traditions of the different regions in Malaysia. During the celebration, stunning dancers from Tari Waris Club NDUM perform various dances showing various cultures and traditions of various races in Malaysia and a marvelous performance of the band D’ASWA. Enjoyable performances by course participants from three divisions were also presented on this occasion.

All the guests were served various scrumptious dishes from various states in Malaysia as well as a variety of cuisines from 19 countries. The children also have been entertained through the distribution of the duit raya event by the MAFSC Commandant and spouse. The majority of the guests present were very excited and amazed by the variety of cultural performances and enjoyed an enormous variety of dishes and cuisines both from local and abroad.

COURTESY CALL BY COMMANDANT OF MALAYSIAN ARMED FORCES STAFF COLLEGE (MAFSC) TO WESTERN FLEET COMMANDER

Lumut, 15 May 2023 – The MAFSC Commandant, Brig Jen Dato’ Haji Semaon bin Haji Marjuki rendered a courtesy call to YBhg Vice Admiral Datuk Abu Bakar Mohd Ajis at Western Fleet Command Headquarters. The courtesy call was in conjunction with the upcoming Northern Region Capabilities and Operational Studies (NRCOS) - MAFSC visit from 12 to 16 June 2023 involving few related formations and units from HQ Western Fleet.

The courtesy call is towards the discussion on the upcoming visit program for the course participants of Malaysian Command and Staff Course Joint serial 52/2023. The courtesy call concluded with the exchange of mementoes between the Commandant of MAFSC and Western Fleet Commander.

THE MAFSC GSO 1 COORDINATION HANDING OVER TAKING OVER

The Handing Over and Taking Over (HOTO) ceremony between Lt Kol Idham bin Md Rusli and Lt Kol Yousrie bin Muhamad was held on 3 April 2023 at the Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College (MAFSC) Arowana Hall. The HOTO was witnessed by the Commandant with the presence of all FMDS and staff of the MAFSC. Lt Kol Idham bin Hj Md Rusli was posted to the Army Headquarters and appointed as the Military Assistant 1 to the Chief of Army effective on 24 March 2023. Lt Kol Idham had served the College for approximately 2 years as the Teaching Directing Staff and as General Staff Officer 1 Coordination of MAFSC.

The event continued with the presentation of mementos from Commandant and concluded with group photo session. The College would like to wish all the best to Lt Kol Idham bin Md Rusli on his future posting.
