Another four barophile converts! Especially proud with this group as they held steady in an actual emergency when our instructor suffered a catastrophic o-ring failure during the final boat dive, having to perform an air sharing ascent with the student including a full 3 minutes safety stop. Truly deserved the Open Water Diver certification.

Majority of the skills you learn in an Open Water Diver course is about handling all manners of unlikely emergencies - these guys promptly applied what they had just learnt.

Talk to us about beginning your under water journey via the SSI Open Water Diver program.

For Artificial Coral Reefs, Time Is Not Enough | Hakai Magazine 07/08/2021

Artificial reefs may not be the answer after all.

For Artificial Coral Reefs, Time Is Not Enough | Hakai Magazine Researchers hoped that, given long enough, artificial coral reefs would grow to match natural reefs. But an examination of a 200-year-old artificial coral reef shows that’s not necessarily the case.

"I was recently asked on a podcast what makes a product “reef safe,” and before I had a chance to answer, the host said said “this product doesn't contain the ingredients banned in Hawaii, so it's safe right?”

There is currently no universal definition for what is reef safe, but just removing a couple of banned ingredients does NOT equate to being reef safe.

If a product doesn't contain some harmful ingredients, I would agree that it's most likely reef safer but what really is reef safe?

To me, it means your product won't do harm. To me, it means that your product is readily biodegradable in the environment, not just wastewater treatment plants. To me, you should have some serious testing to back up these claims.

To the best of my knowledge, Stream2Sea’s entire product line is still the only on the market that's tested and proven safe, not just for freshwater fish and saltwater fish but also humans, and our sunscreen is even proven safe on coral larvae.

Do you want safer or do you want safe? The entire team at Stream2Sea is committed to developing products that are safe for us and safe for our planet, and we're always working to do better – with your help! As always, I remain grateful for your support and help educating that what we put on our bodies DOES make a difference!"

Why is everybody asking for our Leave-In-Conditioner? What makes it so special — beyond the fact that it’s reef-safe? 🤔

Most conditioners include ingredients like polyquaternium 10, propylene glycol and cylcopentasiloxane – any of which can make your hair look great, but are NOT great for our waters. Instead of using these synthetics, our CEO and cosmetic chemist, Autumn Blum formulated our conditioner with our signature antioxidant blend of green tea, aloe, olive leaf and holy basil, then enriched the formula with extra keratin and panthenol. She also tested our formula to ensure that it readily biodegrades in the environment. Our Leave-In Conditioner is strengthening, non-greasy and doesn’t weigh down even thin, fine hair – and still holds up to a day of masks and hoods in saltwater. It also does a great job protecting the hair from UVB damage! ✨
