Far Far Away 🏰
Throwback to an epic weekend at Singapore with ma geng 😂 Did I go on way too many rides because there were barely any waiting time? Yes, yes I did.
I would really like to teleport to a foreign land now.. 😂
Nothing rejuvenates me more than meeting the young ones. Most of the time the work I do revolves around meetings, spreadsheets, planning, calculating and all the other tedious and not so fun things. 😂 However, the moment I get to spend my time with these young champions from all the different parts of the world, the work becomes so much more worthwhile.
Recently, I was having a chat with some very experienced adults and they talked about how anyone would be able to be a labour to do these programs at the schools and that their time would be more worthwhile sharing their experiences to the young. It made me think deeply about what my experience has been for the past 9 years.
Yes, as the older one in the room, I always had experience to share. Sometimes doing simple things like carrying boxes and arranging books did not seem like the best use of my time. But the reality was that, doing those simple tasks and genuinely being curious to interact with the young is what brought some of my valuable lessons. Sometimes as we grow into leaders we forget that the lessons from the grassroots is what brought us there and we should never ever think that we are better than the others in the room. There is always something to learn just as there is always something to share. No task is mundane if we remain open minded to absorb any lesson that may present itself. A moment to shed the grandiose persona we have built for ourselves and just be an ordinary person in the room, ready to learn.
Just some thoughts I have had as I embarked on my trips last week. Looking forward to my next physical encounter with the young. Till then, virtual interactions it is.. 😊
📸 from my trip to Kelantan, Malaysia, visiting SK Beris Kubor Besar and SK Kubang Golok.
Managing one’s expenses is easier said than done. It is not just about your current mindset but it is also deeply influenced by your perceptions and beliefs developed when you were younger, your habits developed as you grew up and your environment now.
So here’s how I get my clients started on managing their expenses:
✅ Shift Focus : Bring the focus to awareness rather than finding fault. Many times when we try to manage our expenses, it becomes a mission to find all the mistakes we make in spending our money. The more we focus on this, the more our spending gets worse. Focus on becoming aware of where, why, when and how you spend your money.
✅ Set A Direction : With awareness comes change. As you become aware of your money habits, it is important to take a step back and ask ourselves, what are our priorities and goals in our lives. Does our spending reflect our priorities and goals? This step usually shows us that we end up spending money in areas that are important to others or important to our senses and rarely important for our goals.
✅ Set Your Intention : Now that you have identified the mismatch between your priorities and where you actually spend your money, you can now make conscious plans as to how you would like to spend your money. There is no sense of victimhood, there is just autonomy on your own money. You make the decisions, you call the shots. When you spend the money, you ask yourself, are you following your decisions or you are being influenced by something else.
This journey is nuanced and requires time. If you’ve struggled to manage your expenses, consider the support of a coach to guide you through it.
If you would like to explore how coaching xan help you, book a slot at the link below and let’s have a chat about it.

It was an honour to accompany Harsha at the QS Higher Ed Summit : Middle East 2024 to share about Ascendance and the Ascendance Impactpreneurship Incubator 2024. An initiative that will bring together top students from universities across the world to establish and run their social startup aimed towards making progress in the UN SDGs.
The spirit of innovation and excellence that I felt with all the university leaders I interacted with was truly humbling and inspiring. Looking forward to working with these amazing institutions to bridge the gap across the world.
💰 Do you worry about money? I know I do. When things are calm and slow, money management is well.. manageable. The actual problem begins when we get too busy. The hectic pace, the rush, can make us slowly lose grip on our finances and next thing we know we have lost control of our finances. Here are some strategies I use to stay on top of my finances, even in the busiest of times:
🟢 Set a Weekly Financial Check-In: Designate a specific day each week to review and update your finances. Consistency is key in regaining control amidst chaos.
🟢 Surround Yourself with Financially Savvy Friends: Share your concerns and discuss strategies with friends who prioritize financial management. This easily is one of the most effective ways to ensure you too are are staying on top of your finances.
🟢 Optimize Convenience: Utilize online banking, cards, and e-wallets to easily track expenses and transactions. The digital trail makes it simpler to stay organized, even after a busy period.

A highlight in January was definitely organising the Ratio Analysis Workshop! My oh my was it nerve wrecking.. I still remember, when we went around the class introducing ourselves, I realised my participants were CFOs, finance managers and accountants with years of experience beyond me. I started feeling nervous as I began conducting the workshop alongside and
After we got into the groove, my nervousness disappeared and I was excited to share my experience and bring the participants through the journey we had designed. The session went well and I learned what worked and didn’t. The reason I was able to manage myself and get into the zone of focusing on delivering my best content is because of the application of the S-I-E-P Framework. It has kept me grounded and focused when it matters the most.

January and February is usually a quiet month for me. What does quiet mean? It means we are setting up all the foundations right for the next 10 months of events to progress well.
In and , we run over 100+ virtual programs and 50+ physical programs in a year. That requires a lot of people coming together to make it work. From updating processes, training new members in the team, organising documentation, settling applications and approvals, pitching and marketing our programs. So much goes on without much pictures to show for it. So here is a picture of me running the induction program last month at SMK Bukit Changgang. This was made possible by the amazing Foundation.
Looking forward to an action packed 2024! Marching on towards
Last December, we had an amazing new intake of Breaking Down Basics of Business & Leadership Basic Edition!
Our Breaking Down Basics Workshop Series aims to bridge fun learning methods with learning itself. Bu incorporating Wharton Interactive’s Alternate Reality Courses and enhancing them with our role playing and gamification, we bring immersive learning experiences to the students.
On top of this, the students are spending time learning Business and Leadership concepts such as capital fundraising, hiring, customer and supplier feedback, negotiation, teamwork and decision making. What truly drives this home is the reflection of their own thought, words and actions being addressed as a large part of the program to create self awareness in the students. They are not only absorbing new knowledge, they are doing what education actually stands for, which is to bring out from within.
The 4 founders of and myself have crafted this 3 day workshop meticulously based on our experiences working with students for the past 9 years and we invite you to send in your kids for the next intake in February.

Beyond grateful to be featured on NST Online Sunday Times. I never would have imagined this in my wildest dreams.
This interview with Elena Koshy was truly a unique experience. Not only did we discuss my achievements and journey in Ascendance and ET Ideas - The Hub of Ideas, but we also spent a substantial amount of time talking about my personal growth.
Article : https://www.nst.com.my/lifestyle/sunday-vibes/2023/10/972538/2023-commonwealth-youth-awards-regional-finalist-malaysia
I was truly grateful to have that conversation as it made me reflect on how far I have come in my life and how much of happier person I am now. It also reminded me about the significant role my parents (Kannan and Kasthoori) played in my life and how my relationship with them is an important pillar for my growth. 🥰
One of the things I appreciate most about Ascendance and ET Ideas is the emphasis placed on your holistic growth. By focusing on your mission you can improve all areas of your life. That is what I experienced personally and that is what we strive to give for every individual who steps into our world.
This is what we emphasise in our flagship programs - Breaking Down The Basics of Business & Leadership for Teens as well as the Be At Your Best Program for Adults. From problem solving, conflict resolution, focus and self motivation, we bring forth these abilities that all of us have within us. If you are looking for a way to unleash your potential, schedule a 20 min consultation with us here at Ascendance and let’s explore how we can make it happen.
Thank you to everyone who made my journey a fun and amazing one.. 🥰
