Our story began way back in the mid 2000's when a few industrious individuals had a vision to create a good-value grocer that was capable of meeting the discerning appetite of Klang Valley residents for high-quality, fresh products and household goods for their everyday needs. This vision became a reality at our first-ever Jaya Grocer outlet, which was brought to life at Jaya 33 in Petaling Jaya.

The mission of this easily accessible, mid-to-high tier premium grocer was to serve the families in Section 14 and the surrounding areas. At the time, we were one of the only Malaysian-based premium grocers with a wide range of imported fresh produce and household goods, serving local communities with each subsequent branch that we opened. Over time, Jaya Grocer became more than just the local premium grocer in town. It became a household name found in conversations between family members, friends, colleagues, and passing acquaintances. We now have over 41 outlets in Peninsular Malaysia, a fast-growing online delivery service, and the aspiration to open many more outlets in the years to come. Both Jaya Grocer and Hank’s Fine Foods have won the hearts of families nationwide by passionately providing consistently fresh green produce and importing the finest, carefully curated products from trusted international suppliers. Why miss out on classic flavors? For World Vegan Month, here’s a vegan take on cucur udang with a little umami twist and oyster mushrooms, giving you that ‘udang’ vibe—no seafood needed! 🌊🍄 Perfectly crispy and is a must-try! 💚

𝐈𝐧𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬

• A few pieces of dried kombu
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 1/4 cup rice flour
• 1 tbsp corn flour
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
• 1/2 tsp mushroom seasoning
• 1 sheet nori seaweed, chopped
• Handful bean sprouts
• Handful chopped chives
• 1 small carrot
• 1 red chili
• 1-2 cili padi
• 1 handful oyster mushrooms, torned (for the “udang” texture!)
• 1 small red onion

𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬

1. Soak kombu in warm water for 20-30 mins, drained but keep the water!
2. Combine all-purpose flour, rice flour, corn flour, salt, turmeric powder, mushroom seasoning, and chopped nori in a bowl.
3. Toss in taugeh, kucai, carrot, red chili, cili padi, sliced red onion and torn oyster mushrooms. Add kombu-soaked water little by little to make a thick batter.
4. Heat oil in a pan. Spoon batter into the oil, frying each cucur until golden and crispy.
5. Enjoy with kuah kacang or chili sauce for that extra yum! 🥜🔥
