It’s Chap Goh Meh! Last day of the Chinese New Year 🎉 celebration. Let’s try this little malt from Auchentoshan.

Auchentoshan Three Oak, 43%

Nose - Intense sherry notes and oakiness, as the colour suggested. Full and heavy, slightly sharp, very sweet as well. I would say the bourbon influence was completely drown by the oloroso and PX here.

Palate - Oranges! What a surprise! Full bodied oakiness here, not a surprise. Extremely sweet as well. Lots of tannin and very very dry. Some dried fruits surfaced after a few wee sips.

Finish - Bitter oranges, oak, pretty dry. Medium long finish.

My first visit to Director’s Cut at TTDI.

A perfect example of good old blend. Johnnie Walker Black Label from the 70s for the Japanese market. Well I can’t deny that the OBE (old bottle effect) makes it a lot better, you can feel the complexity right away from the nose. Lovely.

A beautiful 1990 vintage Laphroaig bottled by Malts of Scotland. Lovely complex nose with a clean Laphroaig profile, compliment by the robust palate with sea breeze, peat smoke, and iodine. Your typical Laphroaig. An easy 90 pts. Thanks for the dram 🤗
