π Dressing Your Newborn in Tropical Heat: A Comprehensive Guide π
πΆ Opt for Lightweight Fabrics: Choose loose, lightweight, and breathable materials such as cotton. These fabrics allow air to circulate, keeping your baby cool and comfortable. A simple onesie or a light cotton singlet paired with a nappy is often enough for indoor wear.
π§’ Sun Protection is Key: When stepping outside, always protect your baby's delicate skin from the sun. A wide-brimmed sun hat is essential to shield their face, ears, and neck from harmful UV rays.
π³ Whenever you're outdoors, keep your baby in the shade as much as possible. Use a stroller canopy, portable shade, or sit under a tree to protect them from direct sunlight.
π If additional coverage is needed, dress your baby in loose, light-colored clothing that covers their arms and legs without causing overheating. Light wraps or muslin cloths can provide extra protection while remaining breathable.
β Overheating can be a concern in tropical climates. Avoid bundling up your baby too much. Check their temperature by feeling their neck or back to ensure they are not too hot. They should feel warm but not sweaty.
π§ Keep your baby hydrated. If you're breastfeeding, offer feeds more frequently to ensure they're getting enough fluids.
π For nap time, dress your baby in light clothing and use a breathable sheet or blanket to keep them cool and comfortable.

Experts advise starting sleep training when babies are between 4 and 6 months old. This age range is ideal because babies are physically able to sleep for six to eight hours overnight without needing to eat and have yet to develop strong sleep associations with the comfort you provide.
Whichever method of sleep training you pick, it is good to know some tips below:
π΄ Establish a consistent 30- to 45-minute bedtime routine- Starting early enough to avoid over-tiredness. If your baby has been falling asleep while feeding, schedule the feed before the bath or books.
π΄Avoid sleep training during disruptions like a recent move, new nanny, illness, or travel.
π΄ Recognize sleep cues such as yawning, eye rubbing, or crankiness, and put your baby to bed when she's sleepy but not overtired.
π΄ Put your baby down awake to help her learn to fall asleep on her own.
π΄ Avoid rushing to your baby's room at the first whimper. Babies make various noises at night and can often fall back asleep on their own. Responding to every sound may wake them or disrupt their attempts to self-soothe.
π΄ Keep nighttime interactions brief to avoid overstimulation during checks, feeds, or diaper changes.
Wishing you and your family a blessed and joyous Aidiladha. May this special day bring peace, happiness, and prosperity to your home.
Plan for a mix of balanced meals that include proteins, vegetables, and whole grains to ensure youβre getting the nutrients you need. Additionally, stock up on easy-to-prepare staples and healthy snacks to keep you nourished throughout the day.
Preparing and freezing your meals in advance will be tremendously helpful and save you the energy of deciding what to cook. Alternatively, you can hire a 'pantang' or confinement meal provider to supply the nutritious meals you need during your recovery period.
While maintaining a nutritious diet is optimal for obtaining essential vitamins and minerals, it may not always suffice during pregnancy. In this critical phase, you may find yourself lacking in crucial nutrients. If you are pregnant or planning to conceive, prenatal vitamins can effectively supplement and ensure you receive all the necessary nutrients to bridge any potential gaps.
Prenatal supplements are essential during pregnancy for various reasons:
π Filling Nutritional Gaps: Prenatal supplements help bridge any nutritional gaps in a pregnant woman's diet, ensuring that she gets all the necessary vitamins and minerals required for a healthy pregnancy.
π Supporting Baby's Development: These supplements provide vital nutrients like folic acid, iron, and calcium that are crucial for the development of the baby's brain, bones, and overall growth.
π Preventing Birth Defects: Certain key nutrients in prenatal supplements, like folic acid, are known to reduce the risk of neural tube defects and other developmental abnormalities in the baby.
π Maintaining Maternal Health: Prenatal vitamins also help support the mother's health during pregnancy by providing extra nutrients needed to cope with the demands of pregnancy and to support her own body's health.
In general, avoid taking extra prenatal vitamins or multivitamins that exceed your daily requirements. High doses of certain vitamins can be harmful to your baby. Some supplements can also cause constipation. Get your doctor's advise for the right dosage before supplementing.

Parents wield considerable influence over their children through their actions and behaviors. Instead of worrying about whether children follow verbal instructions, the focus should be on the example set by parental conduct.
Children closely observe and often imitate the behavior of their parents or caregivers. Hence, it's crucial to be mindful of one's actions and behaviors as they serve as impactful lessons, shaping children's values, attitudes, and behaviors in the future.

Hari Raya is a time of celebration, but it's also important to prioritize your health and the health of your baby. By practicing mindful eating and making thoughtful food choices, you can enjoy the festivities while nourishing your body and mind.
Here are some tips to keep your food intake in check:
π PORTION CONTROL π
During Eid celebrations, there's often an abundance of delicious food. Practice portion control to avoid overeating. Fill your plate with a variety of nutritious foods, and savor each bite.
π« HYDRATION π«
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day, especially if Hari Raya falls during hot weather. Limit sugary drinks and opt for water or natural fruit juices instead.
π₯ BALANCED MEAL π₯
Aim for balanced meals that include protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats, fruits, and vegetables. This balance will provide essential nutrients for you and your baby.
π§ MINDFUL CHOICES π§
Be mindful of your food choices. Opt for grilled or baked dishes over fried ones, and choose whole grains instead of refined grains. Include plenty of fruits and vegetables for vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
π½ SLOW DOWN π½
Take your time to eat and enjoy each meal. Chew slowly and savor the flavors. This can help prevent overeating and promote better digestion.
Given the tempting array of delicious food available, resisting the urge to indulge can be challenging. While you can certainly sample some treats, it's advisable to exercise moderation, especially considering that pregnant women are more prone to constipation due to slower movement of food during this time.
White noise performs wonders with fussy infants, serving as an incredibly effective signal for drifting off to sleep and enjoying longer periods of rest. This unique sound holds a significance akin to swaddling. In a study involving 40 babies, it was discovered that white noise facilitated 80% of them in falling asleep within a mere 5 minutes!
White noise creates a comforting environment for your baby, indicating bedtime. It mimics sounds from the womb, helping your baby feel relaxed. You can make this sound by gently shushing near your baby's ear. It's not just for calming crying; a deep, low rumble also promotes sleep. White noise blocks out external noises and internal discomforts, such as teething or hunger.
To introduce white noise, play it softly in the background while your baby sleeps. This will help them associate the sound with bedtime, even as their calming reflex fades around 3 to 4 months old. Eventually, they'll recognize that white noise signals it's time to sleep.

Postpartum hives, or postpartum urticaria, are itchy rashes that occur after childbirth when the body's pregnancy-related changes return to normal. This period typically lasts 6 to 12 weeks after giving birth.
The most common causes of postpartum hives include:
𧽠ALLERGIES π§½
The main reason for hives is often an allergic reaction. During pregnancy, hormonal changes can affect your immune system, possibly leading to hives. Changes in your diet during and after pregnancy can also affect your gut health, which might overstimulate your immune system and cause allergies.
𧽠INFECTIONS π§½
Infections caused by bacteria and viruses can disrupt your immune system temporarily, potentially leading to postpartum hives and other allergy symptoms.
During pregnancy, you're more susceptible to catching a cold or flu. These germs may remain in your body and trigger your immune system after childbirth, when it's more relaxed.
Additionally, infections in the birth area can occur due to the many changes happening during childbirth. These infections can also contribute to postpartum hives.
Additionally, postpartum hives can also be caused by:
𧽠Lack of sleep
𧽠Irregular sleep patterns
𧽠Anxiety or depression
𧽠Stress
𧽠Panic attacks
𧽠Temperature changes
𧽠Blood transfusions
𧽠Dietary changes
𧽠Sun exposure
𧽠Physical activity
𧽠Wearing tight clothing
Treatment for postpartum hives usually isn't necessary as they often disappear on their own within a few days. You can try home remedies like using cooling moisturizers, taking lukewarm baths, applying wet compresses, and wearing loose clothing to ease itching and soothe the skin.
Postpartum hives can occur due to various reasons, especially if you don't typically get hives, it could be related to your pregnancy. It's unlikely that you'll continue to get hives once your body returns to its pre-pregnancy state after childbirth.
Did you experience postpartum hives before? What did you do to relief the symptoms?
Yes, you read it right!
Being a mother does not mean you have to be mundane. You can slay motherhood and be a bada** mom!
Cheers to you, ladies!
Is it necessary to wear socks after giving birth? Can we go without them?
In Western countries, where weather can be cold, wearing socks is a common practice. However, this practice is also prevalent in Asian countries due to the many benefits it offers to mothers during the confinement period. These benefits include:
𧦠Warmth and Comfort: Socks help keep your feet warm, which is especially important during the postpartum period when your body is adjusting after childbirth.
𧦠Improved Circulation: Compression socks can improve blood circulation, which is beneficial after giving birth, as it can help reduce swelling and promote healing.
𧦠Prevention of Infections: Socks can protect your feet from dust and dirt, reducing the risk of infections, especially if you have had any incisions or stitches.
𧦠Mood Enhancement: Keeping your feet warm and cozy can contribute to overall comfort and well-being, potentially helping to boost your mood during the recovery period.
𧦠Support for Tired Feet: After childbirth, your feet may feel tired and sore from standing or walking. Wearing socks with cushioning can provide some relief and support.
𧦠Reduced Risk of Slips and Falls: Wearing socks with non-slip soles can reduce the risk of slipping on smooth floors, which is particularly important when you may be feeling a bit unsteady after childbirth.
Have you tried going without them? Did you feel any differences? Tell us about it in the comment section.
During the holy month of Ramadan, healthy adult Muslims are required to fast daily from dawn until dusk, which involves abstaining from eating, drinking, immoral acts, and anger. Additionally, acts of worship such as prayer, reading the Quran, and charity are encouraged.
German researchers investigated the impact of maternal lifestyle changes during Ramadan, beyond fasting alone, on neonatal health outcomes. They discovered that fasting during the first trimester of pregnancy (weeks 1 to the end of week 12) was linked to lower birth weight. However, this negative effect was mitigated when daily fat intake outside of fasting hours was increased.
βThe finding that dietary intake during Ramadan potentially moderates the fasting-birth weight association is of high relevance to pregnant Muslims who wish to fast, and their healthcare professionals, since dietary choices outside of fasting hours are often relatively easily modifiable,β the authors write in a new study in PLOS ONE.
The study from Germany involved a survey of 326 Muslim women whose pregnancies coincided with Ramadan 2017. The authors propose that "temporary caloric deficiencies" could be a mechanism by which intermittent fasting during pregnancy influences the birth weight of offspring.
βSince high-fat content foods tend to have higher caloric contents, eating increased amounts of such food might lead pregnant women to reach sufficient daily caloric intakes.
βFurthermore, since fat has a low glycaemic index, increasing consumption of fat on fasting days may help delay the onset of physical states that are harmful for the foetus.β
On top of tweaking the calorie intake during Ramadan, they also increase the intake of fluid and fibre, and avoid strenuous activities.
