Sriba-an 2022 is crafted with red glutinous rice left to age in heirloom jars for 2 years now. It is an earthy brew, mildly sweet and fairly potent, made just how tayung used to.

Bad Cat Borneo is pleased to release our refreshed tuak look!

Our BLACK PEPPER TUAK is made from pure, sun-dried pepper berries planted in Serian, not an infusion with rice but a delectable brew that stands on the merits of only black peppers! It's mildly sweet, medium spiciness with a note of caramel and the memory of a Bornean kampung on a hot afternoon.

Bornean communities also produce other alcoholic beverages that are considered non-tuak, like palm wines and distilled liquors!

Unlike , PALM WINES are palm sap/nectar that is collected and naturally inoculated by wild yeast, then consumed within a few days. Sometimes bitter tree bark (rosok/kuun/raru) is added to enhance its flavor and fermentation. The colour ranges from milky white to deep burgundy. It is sweet, sometimes tart or slightly bitter.

Sometimes the word tuak is also used for palm wines, especially outside of Borneo in island Southeast Asia.

DISTILLED LIQUORS are made by cooking tuak in a still to create a very potent brew that will break the natural alcohol threshold of 20%, going as high as needed by the distiller and usually looks as clear as water. It tastes very dry, bitter with notes of whatever base it was made from.

So be on the lookout when travelling in Borneo for these somewhat rare examples of non-tuak beverages!

Our ASAP TUAK undergoes a roasting process of the rice grains before brewing, allowing the final product to retain a smoky, complex caramel mouth feel. With medium sweetness and alcohol, it's a great one for the adventurous!
