It's time of the year for our (Prof Zainab and myself) flagship workshop on scientific writing.

This year we're incorporating the basic AI tips and tricks in our workshop to supercharge your writing journey.

Honestly I think this workshop is worth attending not only for the early researchers and postgraduate students, but also experienced researchers as part of their life-long learning activities.

We feel grateful for the opportunity to share the little things that we know to support our participants in their journey.

More information is in the comment section, and I cordially invite you to join us in this workshop.

Love always,
Rafeah

Early review on this upcoming theater.

"Baru balik tengok latihan untuk teater Secret Survivor. MasyaAllah... wajib tengok semua. Kalau tanya perasaan tadi rasa nak menangis, meremang bulu roma. " - Adillah Ismail

ILU!

Our second clean-up session at MPKS Community Green Centre.

This is a part of the groundwork for our BSc Chemistry (Hons.) SULAM project "Organic Waste Separation Workshop and Kick-Start of MPKS Community Green Centre Composting Project".

The moment we finished the clean-up session, we didn't realized the changes we made until we compare the before- and after- photo.

Alhamdulillah.
50 garbage bags.
3 piles of furniture and construction residues.

The area is now marked with caution tape by MPKS to protect it from new illegal dumping.

Thank you MPKS and Persatuan Pasar Bandar Riyal for this opportunity.

Our esteemed Kota Samarahan citizens, let's work together towards a clean and beautiful Kota Samarahan.

Because we live here.🤩

Someone wrote this, which I think is worth sharing - in case anyone needs to hear this today:

If you sell something, sell it.
Do it every single day.
Don't be shy.

If you need a job, tell people about it.
Do that every day too.

Being timid will cost you.
Advocating for yourself will change your life.

29 April 2024, Kota Samarahan - Our STK2983 Waste Management and Toxicology from BSc (Hons) Chemistry Year 2 started their Service-Learning Malaysia: University for Society (SULAM) project implementation today. Their first task was to conduct the clean-up of Pusat Hijau Komuniti Majlis Perbandaran Kota Samarahan (MPKS) before activating the Centre for community composting project.

In the project "Waste Separation Workshop and Pusat Hijau Activation at Bandar Riyal Market", we collaborate with MPKS to conduct organic waste bin placement by zone, organic waste separation campaign and training, Pusat Hijau MPKS composting SOP and kick-start the composting activities at the centre.

Honoured to be on the same stage with YB Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability last week, speaking on "Pathways to Plastic Neutrality".

Personally I believe that everyone can play their role towards Plastic Neutrality, at the same time we need a conducive ecosystem if we want to get there faster.

The only way is to make that first step. make that first step. make that first step.

Nobody said it will be easy, you'll feel like your body is glued to the earth and can't move.

But just move instead!

After you pass this stage, you'll be back on track.

Have you all tried Consensus app for literature review?

To explore new information regarding your research:

Type your Research Question in the Consensus app.

OR

Go to ChatGPT, type your research topic and ask chatgpt to propose 10 RQs for your topic.

Choose the RQ you think relevant for your work/write up.

Go to Consensus, type your RQ.

Consensus will suggest points from previous studies that you can use.

But of course, like any AI tools, you must use it mindfully. Dont trust everything. You must think and select the important and relevant ones.

Dont simply take everything.

Be smart. Be ethical.

With my postgraduate students at INTEX23.

I had no group of friends during my MSc and PhD journey. Of course we have labmates and supervisor-mates but everyone was basically busy minding own's business most of the time. To be honest, you may not be alone in your postgraduate studies but for some...it is STILL a lonely journey.

The good thing about having 2 different supervisory teams for my MSc and PhD is that I learned different ways to maximise postgraduate studies experience, and that I applied in my supervising style.

I love to see my postgraduate students able to share their findings and issues in research with each other, manage exhibition or conference presentation together, apply for IPs together, "gotong-royong kemas lab" together, mentor Final Year Project students, take up job as lab demonstrators and at the same time have opportunities to independently explore their own unique research journey.

This is my way, and I hope my students' postgraduate journey is the one that is memorable and bringing the best potential in them. I pray for their success, always.

Congratulations everyone!

Well done to my postgraduate students for your success in Innovation Competition 2023 in conjunction with FRST Postgraduate Day 2023.

Saffrullah: Gold award & 2nd place for Innovation Competition
Deborah & Nick: Silver award
Nurul & Tresylia: Bronze award

Speaking of postgraduate supervision, I took some of the best practices from my MSc and PhD supervisors and co-supervisors:

1. Let your student explore critical thinking and be creative.
2. Encourage them to present their work to different audiences as frequent as possible.
3. Encourage them to work in team (although everyone's project is different).
4. Let them work independently.
5. Always make time and safe space for them to ask and discuss with you.
6. Treat them with respect.

May Allah grant all our students success in their postgraduate studies and in life undertakings.

Love always,
Rafeah

Alhamdulillah, thank you UNIMAS for the opportunity to share my CEO@Faculty Industrial Attachment programme experience.

I'm honoured to be able to share the same stage with YBhg Prof Dr Mohd Hasnain Md Hussain, Director of University Industry Centre, UNIMAS and my esteemed industry supervisor Mr Azid Allan, Head, Industrial Capability, PETROS.

Among the key takeaways are:

1. CEO@Faculty Industrial Attachment programme is a good platform for academicians to gain/improve industry experience, especially in corporate management.

2. Industrial attachment for academicians provides many benefits, including but not limited to:
-industry insights to be incorporated in daily tasks as academicians.
-enhance course delivery by integrating your industry experience for the benefits of your students.
-enhance your network and networking skills
-provide new perspective to you in designing your course/curriculum.
-boost your confidence in your field.

3. For students and academician - to prepare for your industrial attachment, have right mindset, behaviour and make sure your purpose of doing it is clear and sincere. As interns you are not expected to know everything, but are expected to quickly learn and adapt to the work environment and culture. Keyword: Lifelong learning.

For me personally, it was a humbling yet beautiful experience. I learned a lot of things to help me be a better academicians. I can't never thank PETROS and UNIMAS enough for this priceless experience.

For academicians, you are already book smart. Industry experience will help you to be street smart.

Don't overthink. Just do it.

Embarking on industrial attachment journey may seems intimidating to academicians, especially those who had no industry experience.

But what must be done, must be done. When I started my CEO@Faculty Industrial Attachment programme, both my industry supervisor and myself have our own perceptions on each other's world - which we later discovered that some of them were not true.

Join us tomorrow to get some insights on the expectations and experience of our CEO@Faculty programme journey.

Salam sayang semua 🥰

All the best!

Share to inspire others.

When people say "trust the process" it means trusting that every informed-effort you put on daily basis, even the smallest ones, will bring impact to the achievement of your goals.

Realizing this will enable you to trust, enjoy and appreciate the process even more.

So, Ahad ni setelah banyak bulan stop aktiviti TikTok, saya buat live insyaallah. Semoga Allah berkati 30 minit tu. Amin..

Share info dengan kawan k. Sebab saya pun tak pasti bila lagi boleh buat live. Terima kasih.

Maaf lama menyepi.

Apapun, saya teruskan sahaja.

Amin...
