Vision Weekend is the annual event for Persatuan Tongkat Putih, a society focussed on creating sustainable-living environments for the visually impaired.
Persatuan Tongkat Putih (PTP) is a registered society whose mission is to build sustainable lives for the vision-impaired. PTP is organising Vision Weekend 2016 on 23 and 24 July 2016 and this will be an activity-filled weekend in support of the Vision-impaired. Vision Weekend 2016 will raise funds, raise awareness, break down some barriers between the sighted and the blind, as well as begin to cr
ack the perception that the blind are handicapped and helpless. PTP programmes including these will benefit from this event:
1. THE BRAILLE SLATE
A RM30 locally-sourced device that allows Vision-impaired to take notes in Braille and to thus take on professional roles. The Braille Slate does almost the same job as a US$2000 Braille Typewriter.
2. THE MASSAGE TRAINING AND CENTRE-FUNDING PROGRAMME
PTP is developing this programme to provide first the training and then the place of employment for suitable visually-impaired therapists. Teaching a man to fish, as well as providing the rod and reel as it were.
3. BUKU PANDUAN MEMBACA AL-QURAN
The only Braille guidebook which allows access to the Quran for the vision-impaired. This guidebook is given to those who need it.
4. WHITE CANE REPLACEMENT PROGRAMME
PTP regularly gives new white canes to the vision-impaired community to ensure they can be safely mobile and independent.
5. FOOD BANK PROJECT
A bimonthly dry food and goods distribution to the vision-impaired needy.
