HYPERTENSION - HOW TO DETECT
Most people with hypertension don’t feel any symptoms. Very high blood pressures can cause headaches, blurred vision, chest pain and other symptoms. Checking your blood pressure is the best way to know if you have high blood pressure. If not treated, it can cause other health conditions like kidney disease, heart disease and stroke. People with very high blood pressure (usually 180/120 or higher) can experience symptoms including:
• severe headaches
• chest pain
• dizziness
• nausea
• blurred vision or other vision changes
• anxiety
• buzzing in the ears

Lifestyle changes can help lower high blood pressure. These include:
• eating a healthy, low-salt diet

HYPERTENSION - THE SILENT KILLER!
Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a major cause for premature death as it is hard to detect symptoms. It occurs when the pressure in your blood vessels is too high. In June we talk about causes, risks, treatment and prevention.

Blood pressure (BP) is the measurement of the pressure or force of blood pushing against blood vessel walls. Your BP reading has two numbers:
The top number is the systolic blood pressure, which measures the pressure on your artery walls when your heart beats or contracts.
The bottom number is the diastolic blood pressure. This measures the pressure on your artery walls between beats when your heart is relaxing.

Prolonged screen or reading times can lead to eye strain, dry eyes and headaches.

DIABETES AND HEALTHY FOOD.
For drinks, water, tomato juice and herbal teas and even coffee are recommended due to little sugar and carbs lowering blood glucose levels and increase insulin action. Avoid alcoholic drinks, sports/energy drinks, fruit juices and sodas.
Healthy foods include veggies, nuts, berries, leafy greens and lean meats.

DIABETES - WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT?
To counteract and reduce the risk of diabetes you should eat healthy foods that are low in saturated fats, sugar and sodium.

Also get or stay physically active and work out 3-4 times a week.
Quit smoking and obtain a healthy weight. Your doctor or pharmacist can do blood pressure and cholesterol checks, also advising on a healthy Body Mass Index for an optimal weight.
