2014 saw me almost die from food sickness. On that dependable day, I got in touch with an old friend, met her in her office in Ogba, Ikeja, Lagos, and we decided to treat ourselves. We went to a typical restaurant for lunch, ordered, and the food looked delicious, delectable, and was served beautifully.
I was really anxious throughout the night and started having numerous trips to the bathroom. I had a tummy ache. I was really lucky that the medical director of the hospital I was transported to was nearby because he took me in during the EBOLA era in Nigeria, when vomiting and diarrhea were common symptoms. Obviously, I think the hospital would have rejected me. My sisters later described the events to me. I spent two weeks in the hospital.
I was really fortunate because many individuals had perished as a result. I started paying close attention to my nutrition after my near-death experience and subsequent victory. Our health and wellbeing are determined by the quality of the food we eat, which is a necessity for survival.

DIET
For many people the word 'diet' has become synonymous or associated with restriction or denial.
The dictionary definition of diet is the kind of food and drink that a person, animal or community habitually eats. By the dictionary definition there is no mention of special foods or restriction. There is no need for food to become a great misery. Food can be a source of pleasure.
We are what we eat.
The materials from which our bodies are constructed are provided by the food we eat, normal daily living dictates that even when we are fully grown, our bodies require constant repair and maintenance.
The many process of living, moving, exercising and keeping warm also require fuel or energy which must come from our food. But is the fuel or energy(food) you supply to your body of a quality and right?
What is a balanced diet?
A balanced diet is eating a wide variety of food from all the classes of food for maintaining good health and balanced weight.
Let's eat for health as this improves general wellbeing, helps with weight management and reduces the risk of long term conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer.
Always remember that your body is the baggage you carry for life.
