As you embark on your journey to success, keep Tracy's words in mind: "You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you."

1. Education.

According to Tracy, to earn more, you must learn more. So, the more education you have, the more competent you'll be in your chosen vocation compared with the average. And keep in mind that informal education can be just as valuable as formal education.

2. Skill.
It's one thing to have an education, but all that knowledge is useless if you don't have the skills you need to apply it in the real world. Continually polish your skills through experience, study, and doing.

3. Contacts.
As Richard Branson once said, "Succeeding in business is all about making the right connections." The wider your professional and social network is, the more opportunities you'll be presented with. So, build your list of contacts and keep it fresh.

4. Money.
When you've got money, you have greater freedom than when you're in debt. Not only that, but having money puts you in the position to catch opportunities when they arrive. Says Tracy, "One of the most important things I ever learned in life is that you are only as free as your options. If you have no options, you have no freedom."

5. Good work habits.
Having good work habits enables you to increase your "return on time invested," enabling you to consistently produce more in less time. In contrast, poor work habits lead to being sloppy, late, or sitting idle--dramatically decreasing your return on time invested.

6. Positive mental attitude.
As Tracy says, while you can't control what happens to you, "you can control your attitude toward what happens to you." Make a conscious choice to have a positive mental attitude that is confident and optimistic--looking for the good in every situation. When you do, you will become what you believe, living your best life.

7. Positive image.
It's true: People judge you by your cover--by your appearance and the way you carry yourself. Present an attractive, positive image to others and more doors will open for you, leading to greater success.

8. Creativity.
According to Tracy, "Creativity is something that requires that you continually look for better, faster, easier, cheaper ways to get the job done." Do that on the job, and you'll always be a prime candidate for promotions, raises, and other opportunities.

9. Character.
Your character is a key determinant of your success. When you build respect and trust with others, and act with self-control and honesty, you will create a strong foundation for personal and professional growth--and ultimately, success.

Whether you like it or not, the world is moving from degree-based education to a skills-based system. To put it in layperson's terms, companies are hiring for your sabificate, not your certificate. Advances in AI are such that many degrees are now obsolete. In Europe and the Americas, employers are not too mindful of your English language skills as long as you are proficient in programming languages like Python, Java, PHP, Ruby, Perl, HTML, etc.

Go to California. Hundreds of thousands of Indians who can barely speak English earn millions as coders, programmers, AI technicians, and web developers. In England, they no longer care if you talk like a bus conductor from Oshodi. As long as you have nursing skills, they will give you kpali!

What a Canada-based laboratory technician earns in one hour is what you make in one month. Why? Because we now live in a world where skill will kill poverty faster than a degree!

You are not in your office to win friends. You are there to succeed. It is not a democracy. Focus on pleasing your boss, not your colleagues. Let them call you bootlicker. The same man who signed your employment letter will also sign your promotion letter. That is why a lot of companies do not permit staff to get married to each other. Over fraternisation in the office is never a good idea. If you want friends, go and join a club. If you want promotion, go and please your boss.
