You have to create a thumbnail which is irresistible and steers users curiosity and invites them to click on your video.

You have to grow your subscriber base through constant calls to action in your videos.

The videos have to be of high quality. Nowadays you should consider creating a 4k video. YouTube will scale it down to lower resolutions for you.

The audio too has to be of high quality. Though with today's cheap and high quality condenser mics this should not be a problem. Avoid using the microphone from your smartphone when you film outside. The external noise or wind would ruin the users experience.

There are many ways through which you can earn money with your YouTube channel. You can start with ads and then look into other ways from which you can make money like affiliate marketing or straight out partner programs.
YouTube is also a great platform to do marketing for your own products, such as self help books or online courses.

In January 2018 YouTube changed its rules for monetisation of your channel. In order to be accepted into the “YouTube Partner Program” and monetize your channel, you need a minimum of 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 hours of watch-time over the past 12 months. While this seems high, especially for those who are just starting a new channel it has also thinned out the competition of the many bad channels. Getting these numbers will require you to focus on the quality of your videos first and foremost. Spending some advertising dollars.

But please don't mistake simple with easy. To be successful on YouTube you will have to consistently upload videos to the platform.
At least one video a week but better would be one video each and every day. Depending on the area you chose, this can require more or less real work to create the videos.
You will also have the ability to team up with YouTube through the “YouTube partner program” to earn money.
