As World Youth Skills Day come to an end, we are using this moment to celebrate our own Igbaoyinbo Odunayo Tope who has immersed himself in building his digital and tech skills.
He is a web designer, a video editor and a graphic designer. He has managed a lot of works for clients and has taught many people the skills needs to thrive in the tech world.
At Deaf Youth Association of Ekiti State, we believe in dignity of labour and the ability of young persons to create positive change.

We had the opportunity to join other disability clusters to sensitize members of the public on the importance of inclusion in election and governance.
As persons with disabilities and the society at large, inclusion plays a big role in ensuring equal participation and improved standard. Improved advocacy will reduce the constant discrimination faced overtime.
We'd like to thank individuals who supported this walk in cash and kind and also appreciate everyone who came out to make this walk happen.

We had the opportunity to represent Ekiti State at the National Youth Development Programme organized by the Federal Government of Nigeria in Jos, Plateau State.
During the course of the two-week event, we also had the opportunity to learn about northern life, network with representatives from over 25 states and visit the popular Shere Hills.

DYAEKS at the 3-day mentoring program for young persons with disabilities organized by the Federal Ministry of Youth & Sports Development, Nigeria and Federal Government of Nigeria at Osun State, Nigeria.
We commend the project as it aims provide empowerment and skills to foster decent work.
The youths had the opportunity to learn skills, make quality network and receive life-changing mentoring from accomplished persons.
The program is ending tomorrow and association is glad to be a part.
We look forward to more of this project.

We congratulate our very own Komolafe Martins Tolulope on his convocation from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria.
This is an amazing feat and we celebrate him.
Tolulope is the current Assistant General Secretary of Deaf Youth Association of Ekiti State. During his time, he served as the President of National Association of Deaf Students, Unilorin Chapter and was an active member of various organization.
This is just the beginning of greater heights.

It was a success!!!
Yesterday, the first career counselling session for deaf secondary school students in Ekiti state held at the Government Special School for the Deaf, Ikoro Ekiti.
We had with us Mr. Tope Olaniyi, former Chairman of Deaf Teachers Association of Nigeria (DTAN) as the chief guest speaker who discussed an interesting topic to the excited students and also gifted them 20 of his authored books.
Other guests included Mr. Tunde Ogurinde, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Disability Matters, Mrs Fakunle Bukola, the National Social Secretary of Nigerian National Association of the Deaf Headquarters, Mr. Omotola Omotunla, the Assistant Director of Education, Mr. Sedan Aina, former chairman of Ekiti State Association of the Deaf, Mrs. Obadare Omoniyi, the DYA Matron and Mrs. Adu O.T, the school principal.
Mr. Bello Adam, the youth leader appreciated all the brains behind the event and talked about the importance of building a good future at early stage.
A presentation of successful deaf persons which was presented by Miss Aanuoluwapo Omoleye was shown to the students to enable them see evidences of persons who are succeeding in their careers and give them the boost that they too can do it.
The invited guests gave their speeches which admonished the students to do more.
In her appreciation, the principal of the college said that this was the first of its kind being done in the school and hoped that more of this would come.
She also said that although the teachers are trying their best, the students need to have first-hand experiences and mentorship from those who have made it in life in their different careers.
The association gifted the school with 200 books, 25 T-shirts and writing materials.
We appreciate the sponsors who ensured the event was a success because without them, the event would not have held in the first place.
It was truly a wonderful event with more to come.

Our career counselling and Self Development Event for Deaf Secondary School Students in Ekiti State is happening tomorrow.
EKITI YOUTHS BEAT OSUN IN FRIENDLY FOOTBALL MATCH.
All roads led to Oluyemi Kayode Stadium on the 24th of September, 2021 as the deaf football teams of Ekiti and Osun battled it out in a friendly football match.
The match which ended in a 1:0 win in favor of Ekiti State was graced by the Chairperson of Sports Council, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Disability Matters, Former JONAPWD chairman, Former EKSAD chairman and members of the sports commission.
This football match which was organized by the Deaf Youth Association of Ekiti State in collaboration with Deaf Sports Association was to strengthen the relationship between both states.
Both teams look forward to more games and bonds in the nearest future.

Today, we join the United Nations to celebrate young people who are using their skills for the betterment of life, economy and development.
In Ekiti State, we have a lot of young people who have taken different career paths. We also beseech organizations and the government to support growing businesses and equip more young people with skills needed to advance their careers.
On June 22nd, the association represented by Leader Bello Adam and Aanuoluwapo Omoleye were invited to attend the Workshop on Leadership Development for 40 Youth Leaders organized by Government of Ekiti State, Nigeria. at Office of the Governor, Ado-Ekiti.
The program was very insightful as a lot of issues were raised and discussed.
As young leaders and active citizens, we are responsible for making the change the society needs.
We look forward to more of this from the government.
We paid an appreciation visit to the Honorable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Michael Awopetu where we presented an award to him in recognition of his outstanding contributions and fatherly support towards the growth of the association.
The association was duly represented by some members of the executive board and two ordinary members.
We look forward to more support and collaborations with the government.

END OF THE YEAR HANGOUT OF THE ASSOCIATION!
It was filled with hours of fun and merriment as the youth had a lot to eat, drink and talk about.
In addition, we discussed our plans for the new year which promises to be amazing.
We also joined in the birthday celebration of two of our members.

On December 14, the association was duly represented by Bello Moshood, the General Secretary at the youth lab brainstorming event which was the second phase of the Nigerian Youth Employment Action Plan organized by Nigerian Youth SDGs Network and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development Abuja in partnership with United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the International Labour Organization
This lab, which held in all the 36 states of Nigeria + FCT was to brainstorm solutions to issues regarding decent jobs in the Nigeria as filled by over 200,000 youths during the campaign phase.
In the words of the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, "We also hope to have a inclusive state where persons with disabilities get the jobs they desire without discrimination and this lab will work towards ensuring the possibilities"
Congratulations to our four Young University scholars and members who were among the few selected students that received the Ekiti State Government Scholarship Award amidst thousands of applications.
The award also comes with automatic employment for two years after graduation into the State's Civil Service Commission.
