AITEO CUP: AKURE CITY BOW OUT AGAINST LOBI STARS
Akure City Academy's progress in the 2022 Aiteo Cup has been halted at the Round-16 following a slim 1-0 defeat in the hands of Lobi Stars in Enugu.
It was a test of character for the bunch that were playing in the Round-16 for the first time in the club's history, and they proved to be worthy opponents for Lobi, reducing them to few chances while carving them open as well.
Akure City were aiming for another milestone in the competition, but fell short against the NPFL side in the 19th minute when Adams Olamilekan capitalized on a sloppy defending and put the ball beyond the reach of Rahman Ibrahim in goal.
Ibrahim was further called into action by Lobi and he r?wasn't to be beaten again. He denied Godfrey Utim from a one-on-one situation just before halftime and also made another excellent save to keep out Solomon Kwambe's freekick in the second half.
Having being kept in check by some contentious calls, a golden opportunity to level up presented itself in the final moments of the game, but Damilola Adekayero couldn't compose his effort after being set up by Kingsley Ogunmola.
It ended 1-0 in favour of Lobi Stars.
Reflecting on the result, head coach Banjo Adepoju hailed the team spirit of the players and also described the 2022 Aiteo Cup journey as fulfilling.
_"We have not played in the Round-16 of the Aiteo Cup before. So going as far as that means a lot to us._
_Although we hoped to go farther, we will learn from this exposure and we are confident of what will come in the future_ He added.

AKURE CITY MOVE INTO AITEO CUP ROUND 32
The Warri Township, Warri, Delta State was the centre of upset as Akure City Academy shocked NNL side, Nnewi United 5-4 on penalties to advance into the next round of this year's AITEO Cup.
Fates of both sides had to be decided in shootouts after regulation time ended 1-1.
Akure City made a lively start to the game with few chances in the opening quuater of an hour, the closest of them being Kingsley Ogunmola's attempted lob which went over in the 12th minute.
Ten minutes later, Nnewi United scored against the run of play, taking the lead into the break.
Parity was restored in the 53rd minute through Tope Oladele, who was on hand to smash home a sweeping ball-in from Opeyemi Omooloyi - Tunde Ilesanmi had made an elusive run to free Omooloyi who in turn fed Oladele.
It could have been two for Akure City six minutes later, but Oladele flashed an effort across the face of goal after receiving a through ball from Ogunmola.
The boys required resilience more than threats for the rest of the game and they stood firm against the opponents despite being boxed by injuries.
Someone had to be the hero during the penalty shootout and the most likely man stood out amid the pressure - goalkeeper Rahman Ibrahim, saved one of Nnewi United's spot kick, while Alade, Wisdom, Adekayero, Oladele and Adeyemi all scored, to edge the shootout 5-4 in favour of Akure City.

*CLUB STATEMENT: AKURE CITY WITHDRAWS FROM 2022 NLO*
With deep sense of remorse, we wish to inform our esteemed followers of our withdrawal from the 2022 Nigeria National League One (NLO) Division One.
This is coming on the heels of sanctions metted out on us over pitch encroachment and assault on match officials by ultras at the Akure Stadium; our home ground, during the NLO Matchday Eight encounter against Hammola FC.
As much as the fire of competition is still burning within our camp, we find the sanctions unbearable as it which may practically paralyze us financially, thereby making it impossible for Akure City FC prosecute its matches for the remainder of the season.
We regret all embarrassment the indequacies and inactions have caused.

MATCH REPORT: OSOPADEC FC 1-1 AKURE CITY FC
***Tense Derby Ends in Share of Spoils***
There was nothing to separate OSOPADEC FC and Akure City FC in a dubbed derby on NLO'22 matchday seven at the Government Field, Okitipupa, Wednesday.
A frenetic opening 15 minutes produced one goal apiece, and those settled the scores 1-1 at the end of the game.
The first real chance of the game fell to the hosts in the 5' minute, and Emmanuel John was up to the attempt to deny from a one-on-one situation.
Five minutes later, Kingsley Ogunmola's intended ball in was miscalculated by the OSOPADEC goalkeeper, who watched as the ball rolled into the net for a priceless lead.
The lead only lasted four minutes, as the hosts drew level with 14 minutes on the clock.
As the break approached, Olah Ayodeji flashed a ball wide off mark from a lay up, before Kingsley Ogunmola dragged another one off with Gaius Chinedu waiting endlessly for a tee up.
Tope Oladele had two chances to restore the lead as soon as the second half began, but first, he failed to find the nearpost from an acute angle, before shooting directly at the Goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation a minute later.
The rest of the game became tense under light rain showers, and the bench was beckoned by Coach Banjo Adepoju at intervals to try salvage a point or even three.
With the boys putting in a great shift to keep the hosts in check throughout the second half, Gauis Chinedu came up with a threat from dead ball in the 69', forcing a huge save from the OSOPADEC goalie.
There was no more time for hard work at both ends, as the game ended 1-1, earning us a vital point on the road in the dubbed derby.
