At the third session of the twentieth Synod of the Diocese of Benin Anglican Communion, held in Benin City, the Edo State capital, I called for the support and collaboration of religious leaders and other stakeholders to wipe out cultism and end the activities of Okaigheles in the state.

Our biggest problem in Edo State now is no longer kidnapping. As data from the Security Council meeting shows, it is now homicides – the senseless killing of people as a result of the activities of cultists and community youths.

We don’t need such groups anymore in the state. The biggest threat we face today in the state is cultism. Boys wake up and needlessly kill each other in the name of rivalry. The Church needs to join us to wipe out cultism.

On the occasion of this celebration, I urge everyone to reflect on the peculiar state of our nation and espouse virtues that would promote peace, unity, good neighbourliness and sacrifice.

We should all strive to have a deeper relationship with God as we reflect on the lessons of the season.

Our nation is in dire straits. This period demands that we work together and do away with all ethno-religious strife for our collective progress.

We are working closely with security authorities to ensure our Muslim faithful have a peaceful celebration.

Asue Ighodalo and Osarodion Ogie will make excellent Governor and Deputy Governor, respectively. They have the requisite capabilities and exposure to hit the ground running when they are elected in September 2024. Asue has a very rich corporate governance background; his leadership has brought various corporations and industries to enviable heights, making them very successful.

Ogie has been part of the engine room in Edo State, serving as the Secretary to the State Government in this current administration. His efforts in the Governor Obaseki administration have ensured that the government in Edo State is transformational and development-driven. He was also the Commissioner for Works in charge of Roads construction during former Governor Oshiomhole's tenure.

Indeed, Asue and Ogie will make excellent Governor and Deputy Governor. Let us support them because they have what it takes to take Edo to even greater heights.
