BAKING 101

*BAKING EQUIPMENTS*
A selection of basic equipments is needed to make baking easy.

1. *Scales* :For good, consistent results, ingredients for baking require precise measuring. Types of scales are
*Digital scale
*Analogue scale

2. *Measuring Jugs, cups and spoons*
Some recipes are usually presented in Jugs, cups or spoon measurement cause they are easy to read. Measuring spoons are available in standard size for making the measuring of small amounts more accurate.

3. *Bowls*
Bowls are available in various sizes with rounded sides to make mixing easier.

4. *Sieves*
These are used to aerate flours and to remove lumps from icing sugar, cocoa powder etc.

5. *Electric Mixer*
This is a kitchen utensil that is useful for stirring, whisking, beating or kneading. It is extremely important for baking.

6. *Balloon Whisks*
It is useful for beating smaller amounts of either egg or cream mixtures.

7. *Wooden spoons and spatulas*
Wooden spoons are essential for beating mixtures together when you are not using electric mixer, they are use for folding in ingredients, for smoothing over mixtures to give a flat surface before baking. *Spatulas* are so pliable and useful for scraping mixtures from a bowl.

8. *Baking pans(Tins) and Greaseproof Paper*
Greaseproof papers are used to line baking tins to prevent cakes/pastry from sticking. Baking pans(tins) are available in all shapes and sizes. The thicker the pan the less likely the cake /pastry will be over baked.

9. *WireRacks*
They are useful for cooling cakes and they come in different sizes.

10. *Cake Boards*
Choose the shape and the size of the board to fit the cake. Thick boards are for large, heavy cakes. The board should be larger than the size of the cake with atleast few centimeters. Thinner boards are for smaller and lighter cakes.
