On the 9th-10th November,2022 I will be speaking at the South-South Emerging Young Leaders Summit. This conference is a yearly gathering of young leaders across South South Nigeria with viable impact.

The majority of these mentorship possibilities for startup companies are compensated through stock rather than through cash, as most startups don't have a lot of cash on hand. Some mentors will come and help you out for free, while other mentors will be "paid." How much equity is a fair share when working with such mentors?
1. It depends on the type of business you run.
How much equity is a fair share depends greatly on the firm you run. More equity will likely need to be given up if you own a small business instead of a larger, more profitable enterprise.
For instance, you would likely need to give up a sizeable amount, say 5% to 10%, if you wanted someone who owns 50 restaurants to advise you on how to build one restaurant.
On the other hand, you could probably give away less if you were starting your own restaurant chain with a million-dollar goal.

2. In a World Without Baselines: Baselines
In fledgling companies, board members often get between 1% and 3% of the company's equity, depending on their level of experience and anticipated commitment.
