A tribute to my friend, brother and a co-laborer.
Ette Okon as I funly call you, you left so soon and left me with painful but fulfilling memories. Tell me how one could called another a friend, a brother and a co-labourer in the Lord’s vineyard than this long memories.
Our path first crossed at full gospel college of theology, -Abak, Akwa Ibom State in 1983 when we both enrolled for a diploma program in theology. We became close with a seeking attitude to know more about God, relate with him and work for him which landed us in becoming first class graduates of 1985 class.
In 1985, the vision of pioneering the mount zion mission college of theology in Oron came my way and I invited you to join me to make it a reality and you promptly oblige and moved your family to Oron with me and the school was birthed.
You became the pioneer registrar of that school.
We parted ways; about four years later after a close working relationship and that movement took you to calabar. You never communicated since 1988 to 1994. Again in 1994, the vision to establish Grace Bible Institute and seminary in Calabar, CRS was boldly placed in my hands; since destiny was still playing us around, the desire to look for you in Calabar overwhelmed me immediately I arrived Calabar for this mission. My search for you landed me in the light crusaders Mission where you were pastoring under Late Rev. Isemin, and once again, I invited you to join me and you oblige my invitation to become the pioneer registrar of this great and formidable faith-based institution known as Grace Bible Institute and seminary.
During the period of our working together, you became a bag of ideas as we met daily. You helped shaped my ideas and precisely this school was birthed in September 7th, 1994.
During these formative years, you worked tirelessly day and night under sun and rain, most of the time without food, without money in our pockets yet prayerfully, passion was strong until we got properly established when you now earned your masters and PhD from this school.
Painfully enough, a few years later, the call to return to the Apostolic Bible college here in calabar to become the rector came up. Your experiences as pioneer registrar twice and other working relationships and further qualifications made you eminently qualified for that post and you humbly bowed out of GBIS to continue your ministry in the Apostlic church Nigeria as the rector of the Apostolic Bible college and seminary.
Ette Okon, this is where the cold hands of death snatched you away into eternity with the master and Saviour you loved and served all of these years.
Am I not qualified to call you a friend, a brother and a formidable assistant and co- worker in the Lords vineyard?
Ette Okon, I miss you and our fun memories will remain in the ambience of my soul.
Sad enough, your dear wife who was a pillar of strength to you in mount zion and in calabar felt so lonely without you and also departed to join you a few months after you left.
Paper and pen cannot state all the good memories the difficult times the starvation the rejections and the successes which we both went through.
My friend, good night! Sad to say but excited to know that we shall meet again at the other side of eternity where we shall all gather at the foot of Jesus never to part again but to enter into eternal joy.
Adieu!!!!!!!
Adieu, I tried to look back as I wrote this tribute maybe to catch a glimpse of you but you are gone.
Ette Okon, Adieu and May your soul continue to drink of the fresh water of life in the city of testimonies and the city of our God. Amen!
