Today, the Executive Secretary of ENSPHCDA actively engaged in the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Care Technical Working Group (TWG) meeting. The purpose was to enhance the planning for the upcoming optimized Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week (OMNCHW), scheduled for later this month.
Collaborating with key stakeholders, discussions were focused on refining strategies to fortify maternal, newborn, and child health initiatives for better outcome in the state.
ENSPHCDA is poised to ensure a fruitful and impactful oMNCHW and driving forward, healthcare outcomes for women and children across the state.
In commemoration of the World Health Days 2024, The Enugu state ministry of Health and the Enugu state Primary Health Care Development Agency in partnership with held a road show to sensitize Ndi Enugu on the need to prioritise their health.
The theme of the World health Day 2024 'MY HEALTH MY RIGHT' highlights the urgent need to fulfill the right to health for all and as an Agency we are committed to prioritizing health equity, access to healthcare, and building resilient health systems for all.

The first-quarter meeting of the Task Force on Immunization and Primary Health was convened on Tuesday, which was chaired by His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Enugu State Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai
The meeting serves as a platform for key stakeholders in the health sector, alongside political and religious leaders, civil society organizations, and partners, to assess immunization and primary health care initiatives in the state and drive discussions focused on successes, challenges, best practices, and way forward for enhancing immunization and primary health care services in the state.
During her presentation, the Executive Secretary of the ENSPHCDA, Dr. Ifeyinwa Ani-Osheku provided an update on the agency's accomplishments so far and challenges, emphasizing the need for stakeholders active involvement in advancing immunization and primary health care efforts in the state.
Additionally, the Deputy Governor expressed unwavering commitment to supporting primary health care initiatives and ensuring better health outcomes through innovative technology and new approaches that will yield better health outcome for ndi Enugu.
Yesterday, the executive secretary, along with her team, welcomed the Olori of Ife, the wife of his royal majesty, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, to the Abakpa health centre in Enugu. Her visit was to commemorate and celebrate the valentine with nursing mothers and babies.
During her speech, the olori conveyed the greetings of his majesty to the people of Enugu and encouraged the mothers to care for their babies as royals as a sense of nobility has been bestowed upon them.
She bestowed her royal blessings upon the children and mothers and distributed various gifts to the babies.
The executive secretary, the officer in charge of the facility, and the nursing mothers all expressed their gratitude and joy for the thoughtful gesture. They were deeply appreciative of the Olori's visit and the kindness she showed towards them and their babies.
The Enugu State Community Health Influencers, Promoters, and Services (CHIPS) Program Implementation Unit organized training sessions across the Local Government Areas involved in CHIPS implementation.
The aim was to update CHIPS agents, community engagement focal persons, and supervisors on the program, equipping them with the knowledge to effectively fulfill their roles as health influencers in their respective communities.
The CHIPS Program was established by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and supported by the Federal Government of Nigeria which is designed to enhance the Village Health Worker concept.
The program's goal is to address gaps in healthcare access, improve the continuum of care, connect households with healthcare systems, contribute to national data systems, enhance health outcomes, and strengthen the community aspect of Primary Health Care in line with achieving Universal Health Coverage.
The Executive Secretary was engaged in a detailed examination of the newly constructed Type 3 Primary Health Care facility situated in Agbogugu, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu state.
The primary objective of this comprehensive inspection is to thoroughly analyze and understand the specific requirements essential for the efficient operation and functionality of the facility.

Highlight of the Advocacy/sensitization meeting with Women in policy making position and wives of political leaders was the honoring of Her Excellency, the wife of the Executive Governor of Enugu state, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, with an Award of Excellence for her dedicated efforts in promoting positive change and community development, particularly in the areas of infant, child, and maternal well-being within the state.
Yesterday, Dr. Barr Peter N. Mbah, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, conducted an inspection tour at the Ogononoeji Ndiuno health center in Akpugo, Nkanu West LGA. During the visit, he engaged with health workers, community members, and leaders as part of the government's initiative to enhance primary healthcare services.
This visit underscores the commitment of the state government to revitalize Primary Health Care across all 17 local government areas, aligning with the governor's manifesto.
In his address, Governor Mbah emphasized the significance of healthcare, highlighting its prominence in the 2024 budget, as second after the educational sector. He mentioned that his administration has conducted a comprehensive study to identify challenges in primary healthcare. This data-driven approach aims to formulate effective strategies to address these challenges, with the administration already taking proactive steps.
Dr. Ifeyinwa Ani-Osheku, the Executive Secretary of ESPHCDA, disclosed that the government plans a substantial recruitment of health workers in 2024. Additionally, a seven-man committee has been established to assess the performance of local government areas in primary healthcare delivery.
The community members expressed satisfaction with the Mbah administration's commitment to improving the health sector in rural communities. They pledged full support and commitment to ensure the success of primary healthcare initiatives in the community.
The Enugu State Primary Health Care Development Agency organized a two-day Advocacy and Sensitization event for women in policy positions and the wives of political leaders in Enugu State.
The focus of the meeting was on prioritizing investment in maternal, infant, and young child nutrition. The objective was to inform and empower key female stakeholders, encouraging them to drive policies that enhance nutrition for mothers and children in the state.

As part of the activities concluding the World Breastfeeding Week for 2023, the Enugu State Government, in collaboration with the Enugu State Primary Healthcare Development Agency and its partners, organized the flag-off ceremony for the zero-water campaign.
The primary goal was to raise awareness among mothers, caregivers, and women in Enugu State about the significance of exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of a child's life.
The inauguration of the campaign was conducted by Her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, the Wife of the Executive Governor of Enugu State, represented by Her Excellency, Dr. Adaeze Ossai, the wife of the Deputy Governor of Enugu State.
The Executive Secretary of ENSPHCDA, Dr Ifeyinwa Ani-Osheku in her remarks, encouraged all mothers present to adopt the practice of exclusive breastfeeding of their babies for the first six months, while also assuring them that the agency is committed to advocating for sufficient maternity leave for nursing mothers to facilitate adequate breastfeeding.
Dr. Adaeze Ossai, in her flag-off speech, reiterated the importance of exclusive breastfeeding and urged all mothers to implement the knowledge they gained from the event. She also recognized and rewarded babies who were well-nourished based on our expert criteria of assessment, setting them as examples to motivate other mothers to ensure proper feeding for their infants.
The Executive Secretary, Dr. Ifeyinwa Ani-Osheku officially inaugurated the Basic Emergency Obstetric Newborn Care (BEmONC) SToT in Enugu.
