CATHETOMETER

A cathetometer is an instrument for measuring vertical distances in cases where a scale cannot be placed very close to the points whose distance apart is desired.

The instrument consists essentially of an accurately graduated scale and a horizontal telescope capable of being moved up and down a rigid vertical column. The position of the telescope can be read by means of an attached Vernier scale. In measuring the vertical distance between two points, the instrument must first be leveled. Next, the cross hair in the eyepiece of the horizontal telescope is brought into coincidence with the image of one point and the position of the telescope noted; the cross hair is then brought into coincidence with the image of the other point and the new position of the telescope noted. The difference between these readings is the vertical distance required.

It also help to measure the level of liquid in a capillary tube

Do you know that zobo drink helps to reduce blood pressure?

This is absolutely one of the importance of the drink.
With over 43% of Nigerians suffering from high blood pressure and the lack of adequate health care facilities, this finding is important because drinking a beverage like Zobo can reduce medical costs and prevent complications such as stroke, heart disease, and even death.

LIFE

Mathematicians say LIFE is like a line segment drawn from point B to point D.

What is point B to point D?

It's from point of Birth(B) to point of Death(D).

So life starts from the moment we are Born(B) until the day we Die(D).

But in the middle of B(Birth) and D(Death) is a mysterious C.

What is C then? It is CHRIST.

If we put Christ in the middle of our life(Birth--->Christ--->Death) our life will not end at D but extend to E.

What is E? It's Eternal Life.

So all those who put Christ in the middle of their life have Eternal life after Death

But those who do not put Christ in the middle of their lives don't have Eternal life after Death but they have F(Fire).

Therefore the mathematical Equation or Definition of Life For Christians is

B + C + D = E
Birth+Christ+Death= Eternal Life

And the mathematical Equation or Definition Of Life For Unbelievers:

(B - C ) + D = F
Birth - Christ + Death = Fire

Any one that avoids C must surely lose E

HISTORY OF ALVAN IKOKU

Dr. Alvan Azinna Ikoku was an educationist, activist, and a statesman. He pioneered the idea of a uniform educational system in Nigeria and also free and qualitative primary school education for all Nigerian children.
Born on August 1, 1900, in Amanagwu Arochukwu in Abia State, Ikoku had his early education at the Arochukwu Government Primary School and from 1915 to 1920 attended Hope Waddell College, Calabar.

In 1920, he got his first teaching appointment with the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria and Scotland at Itigidi, Calabar. Two years after, he became a senior tutor at St. Paul’s Teachers’ Training College, Akwa, Anambra State. He got his University of London degree in Philosophy in 1928 through the external program, while still teaching at Awka.

He established the Aggrey Memorial Secondary School, Arochukwu in 1932. He named the school — a co-educational secondary school — after his mentor, James Emanuel Kwegyir Aggrey, a Ghanaian educationist. The school was at the forefront of technical and entrepreneurial education, as well as the teaching of indigenous languages.

Ikoku contributed to making the colonial government implement the decisions of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and also pushed for some of its educational ordinances to be amended in the 1950s. He later became the president of the union in 1955.

In 1962, Ikoku advocated for the Education Bill of Rights for primary school education to be free for six years across the country and also for indigenous languages to be taught in schools. The bill in the first republic did not scale through, but in 1976 the Federal Military Government adopted it as a policy for the country.

Dr. Ikoku died on November 18, 1971. He was an icon in educational development and to honour him for his various contributions, his face was emblazoned on the N10 note. Also, the Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, was named after him, as well as campuses of tertiary institutions.

*Six Leadership Principles To Learn From An Eagle....*

1. *Eagles fly Alone and at High Altitudes.*
They don't fly with sparrows, ravens, and other small birds.

*MEANING*;
Stay away from narrow-minded people, those that bring you down.
Eagle flies with Eagles. Keep good company.

2. *Eagles have an Accurate Vision.*
They have the ability to focus on something as far as 5km away. No matter the obstacles, the eagle will not move his focus from the prey until he grabs it.

*MEANING*;
Have a vision and remain focused no matter what the obstacles and you will succeed.

3. *Eagles do not Eat Dead things.
They Feed only on Fresh Prey.*

*MEANING*; Do not rely on your past success, keep looking for new frontiers to conquer. Leave your past where it belongs, in the past.

4. *Eagles Love the Storm.*
When clouds gather, the eagle gets excited, the eagle uses the storms wind to lift itself higher. Once it finds the wind of the storm, the eagle uses the raging storm to lift itself above the clouds.
This gives the eagle an opportunity to glide and rest its wings. In the meantime, all the other birds hide in the branches and leaves of the tree.

*MEANING*; Face your challenges head on knowing that these will make you emerge stronger and better than you were.
We can use the storms of life to rise to greater heights. Achievers are not afraid to rise to greater heights.
Achievers are not afraid of challenges, rather they relish them and use them profitably.

5. *Eagles Prepare for Training;*
They remove the feathers and soft grass in the nest so that the young ones get uncomfortable in preparation for flying and eventually flies/ when it becomes unbearable to stay in the nest./

*MEANING*;
Leave your Comfort Zone, there is No Growth there.

6. *When the Eagle Grows Old,*
His feathers becomes weak and cannot take him as fast and as high as it should. This makes him weak and could make him die.
So he retires to a place far away in the mountains

MOTIVATIONAL MONDAY: TRAIN UP A CHILD

It was in the year 1945. A stubborn boy was brought to the very Reverend Israel Oludotun Ransome-Kuti (1891-1955), then principal, Abeokuta Grammar School for an offence that would warrant the disciplinarian's cane. The boy had been brought from a college in Ile-Ife to Abeokuta to be tutored and trained in academic excellence.

As Kuti raised his cane to beat him, the boy fumed, 'You would dare beat a prince, the son of a king?'

Kuti was perplexed and at the same time angry. He had never been confronted like that, not in his 15 years as Principal, talk-less of his years as a teacher and disciplinarian.

What impudence! What effrontery!! What audacity!!!

'Mount him', Kuti barked. As a senior boy mounted him, the boy was still defiant. 'You dare beat a future king?', he cursed.

But Kuti would have none of that. He feared no one but God. Not even the Alake nor any other Oba in the Western region.

'Wai, wai, wai, wai, wai, wai', the cane landed on his back. Kuti beat with much vigour and strength.

'Feeeeem', he roared, and the weeping boy kept silent at once. He warned him double of the punishment just meted out on him if caught again. From that day onward, he never caused much trouble but Kuti didn't stop beating him.

The boy who was a rascal prince, turned out to be a useful King. He became the 50th Ooni of Ile-Ife (1980-2015); Oba Okunade Sijuwade Olubuse III (1930-2015).
