Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe wants Canada to boost immigration to his Prairie province and has enlisted the help of the business community to get his way.

At a Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce luncheon, the premier again highlighted his Saskatchewan Party’s vision of a new relationship with the federal government where the province would be freer to set its own immigration targets.
We are not short of jobs. We are short of people,” he said.

The premier wants business people in his province to lobby Ottawa for a new, Canada-Saskatchewan immigration accord like the one the federal government has with Quebec. Under such a deal, Saskatchewan’s immigration targets would be raised to 13,000 new permanent residents per year.

Chijioke Amadi has called Prince Edward Island home for the past 15 years since arriving from Nigeria.

He landed in the province in 2007, when he was 21, to study engineering.

Census data released Wednesday shows the Atlantic provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick have become magnets for immigrants like Amadi.

The share of immigrants to Canada who are settling in the region has tripled, rising to 3.5 per cent last year from 1.2 per cent in 2006.

Patrick Brannon, a senior researcher at the Atlantic Provinces Economic Council, said Nova Scotia and New Brunswick are seeing the biggest growth in immigration, with steady increases between 2016 and 2021.

With the overall population in these areas aging, he said targeted immigration to offset the labour shortage has paid off. Most of the newcomers are from China and India, he added.

In 2021, about 23 per cent of Canada's population counted themselves as a landed immigrant or permanent resident. Based on recent trends, Statistics Canada said immigrants could represent 34 per cent of the country's population by 2041.

Background Story To This

After a five-year test run, an Atlantic immigration program that lets employers handpick workers from other countries, then fast tracks their permanent residency in Canada will be made permanent.

Starting in January, Canada will be able to accept at least 6,000 applicants a year to the Atlantic program.

In a virtual announcement Friday, federal Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said that after one year in Canada, more than 90 per cent of newcomers who arrived under the Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program were still living in Atlantic Canada, a higher rate than any other program.

"What does this mean for our region? In one word, growth," Fraser said.

People can begin submitting applications for permanent residence under the new program on March 6, 2022, and the process would take about six months.

Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan hold draws for provincial immigration
Four provinces invite candidates in the most recent round of PNP draws.

Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and British Columbia have issued invitations to apply to candidates through provincial immigration programs this week.

The PNP was launched in 1998 and now accounts for over 80,000 PR admissions per year. The increase in the number of PNP admissions in Canada is because the federal and provincial governments consider it an effective tool to promote the economic development of the country outside of the provinces and urban centres with already high immigrant populations.

Provincial immigration results September 24-29
Quebec

On September 15, Quebec invited 1,009 skilled workers to apply for permanent selection. The draw was targeted to candidates with work experience in in-demand occupations.

This is the eleventh draw Quebec has held in 2022 and the second draw in the month of September.

Ontario

The Ontario Provincial Nominee Program (OINP) held two draws over the past week. The first draw, on September 23, was for the French Speaking Skilled Workers stream. The province invited 363 candidates and the minimum score was 326.
The second draw was in the Human Capital Priorities stream. The province issued 1,179 invitations on September 28 through OINP as part of a targeted draw for tech occupations. Candidates all had job experience in specific tech-related occupations.

British Columbia

More than 258 candidates were invited to apply for provincial nomination in British Columbia on September 28.

Most candidates, 215, were invited in a targeted draw for tech occupations.

Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan has invited 639 candidates under the Express Entry stream, and 507 under Occupations-In-Demand stream, of the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) for a total of 1,146 candidates.

Quebec and British Columbia have issued invitations to apply to candidates through provincial immigration programs recently.

The PNP accounts for over 80,000 PR admissions per year.

Quebec

Quebec invited 1,195 skilled workers to apply for permanent selection on September 29.

There were no specific NOC’s or locations targeted in this draw.

This is the twelfth draw Quebec has held in 2022 and the third draw in the month of September. This is unusual as Quebec typically only holds draws once a month. Quebec does not release draw results until one to two weeks after draws occur.

British Columbia

More than 364 candidates were invited to apply for provincial nomination in British Columbia on October 12.

The province invited 320 candidates in a general draw. The invitations were issued to candidates in the Skilled Worker and International Graduates categories and included Express Entry candidates.

Ontario

On September 29, the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) invited 1,340 candidates from the Express Entry Skilled Trades stream. Candidates required a score of 266.

This last few days have seen a change in policy for many UK universities.

Now some of them require 50 to 70 % deposit for tuition.

This is due to the rate of default by those who came in last year, who paid 1 or 2k pounds.

There are some posts on social media of individuals and families facing accommodation problems, looking for alternatives.

It's not a funny situation but it's what it is.

No one is blaming them. They didn't anticipate the situation being that way.

And with winter approaching, their dilemma is a serious one.

And some people have tried to game the system by trying to defer their admission and do business.

Yesterday I talked with a person in the UK who has started working there after school.
In the course of discussing, he said something very profound.
He said if he had known about the caregiver assistant jobs, he would have used it to go to UK rather than using the study route.

Why? Because of the expenses involved.
When he left Nigeria, he paid 2000 pounds as down payment.
But for the course he went for, he had to go through a lot of struggling to pay the balance.

In fact, at a time he wanted to drop out of the school and defer.
However some other people in similar situations came together to start a weekly contribution, popular in Nigeria, to pool money together to raise funds for their tuition.

That's how he was able to survive and finish his degree.

His reasoning was that he would have come in through the caregiver route, work, then use the money he earns to pay for his master's degree.

The truth now is that UK schools have increased their tuition deposit and the payment terms due to lots of defaults by African students.

They kind of underestimated the challenges involved in combining living expenses, paying tuition and working at the same time.

He said rather than pay part tuition, he would have just paid for the caregiver job straight up and get money to settle down.

His advice is sound and you should consider it.
Weigh both options and see which one pays you more especially now that tuition fees have stricter terms.

Would you rather pay 5000 pounds tuition deposit or use part of it to get a job that you can start making money immediately when you get to the UK?

Ontario has issued 1,034 Canada immigration Notifications of Interest in its biggest draw of 2022 through the Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream.

The April 26 draw targeted candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System scores in the range of 300 to 461.

Candidates were required to have submitted Express Entry profiles into the federal pool within the 12 months preceding the draw date to qualify.

The Ontario government has announced that it will release the names of individuals sanctioned for providing false information in immigration applications.

Beginning May 3, the provincial government will publish the names of candidates, employers, and representatives who have received an administrative order for providing inaccurate, incorrect, or misleading information to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).

Under the Ontario Immigration Act, 2015, candidates, employers, and representatives applying to the OINP must provide information that is “accurate,” “correct,” and “not misleading.” Otherwise, an administrative order may be issued against them.
An administrative order allows the immigration director to ban the candidate, employer, or representative from applying to the OINP for five years or impose an administrative monetary penalty. The penalty cannot exceed $150,000 for each violation and must be paid within 60 days after service of the order.

In addition, the candidate, employer, or representative may also be subject to other sanctions, such as denial of OINP applications, cancellation of any related approvals, or prosecution under the Provincial Offences Act.

“Publishing contraventions of the Immigration Act is an important measure to protect the public and further strengthen the integrity of the program,” the OINP said.

Canada invited 545 Express Entry candidates to apply for permanent residence on May 11.
All invited candidates had previously received a nomination from a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) and had a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) of at least 753. The minimum score was relatively high because Express Entry candidates get an automatic 600 points added to their score when they receive a provincial nomination. Without the nomination, the lowest-scoring candidates would have had 172 base points.
For this draw, the tie-breaking rule was set for December 15, 2021 at 20:32:57 UTC. Candidates who had the lowest-eligible score were only invited if they had submitted their profiles to the Express Entry pool before this date.
In the previous invitation round, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 829 PNP candidates with scores of at least 772.

British Columbia invited immigration candidates in four targeted draws under its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) on May 10.
The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) invited 126 skilled workers and international graduates with a minimum score of 85 points through the BC PNP Tech stream.

The BC PNP Tech is a fast-track immigration pathway for in-demand tech workers and international students. Candidates need to be registered in one of British Columbia’s (BC) existing provincial immigration streams and have a valid job offer of at least 12 months in one of 29 eligible occupations to qualify for the stream.
The province also held two draws for candidates working in health occupations. More specifically, BC invited 20 healthcare professionals who may be eligible for the Skilled Worker, International Graduate, or the Entry Level and Semi-Skilled sub-categories. In addition, the province said it invited “less than five” nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates to apply under the entry-level and semi-skilled sub-category. In both of these draws, candidates needed a minimum provincial score of 62.

A total of 20 early childhood educators who may be eligible for the Skilled Worker and International Graduate sub-categories also received invitations. These candidates also needed scores of at least 62 in order to be invited.
Since March, in addition to general draws, targeted invitations are being issued to support BC government priorities, such as supporting specific industry sectors, and encouraging regional immigration.
So far this year, B.C. has issued more than 3,200 invitations through various BC PNP streams.

Immigration Minister Sean Fraser appeared today before the Canadian Parliament’s Standing Committee on Citizenship and Immigration to participate in the committee’s new study on IRCC’s application backlogs and processing times.

The parliamentary committee is comprised of elected federal government officials. Their mandate is to monitor federal policy relating to immigration and multiculturalism, as well as oversee the immigration department and refugee board. They conduct studies and make recommendations to guide immigration policy. Minister Fraser was invited on behalf of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to participate in the committee’s backlog study, which began last Thursday.

Processing standards to be met by end of year
Fraser also told the committee that IRCC will aim to return processing times to their standard for the majority of business lines by the end of the calendar year.
“I think we’ll be able to do it—on a majority of lines of business—potentially this calendar year,” Fraser said, “and where we can’t do it, we should be broadcasting those timelines.”

Processing standards refer to the goal IRCC sets to process an application. Standards do not always reflect actual processing times.
IRCC’s efforts to improve wait times for applicants include adding more staff to its 11,000 employees, as well as modernizing the immigration system. Fraser said the $827 million budget to digitize the current system will transform immigration in Canada. Already, efforts to modernize have helped IRCC make 156,000 permanent residency applications in the first quarter of 2022.

IRCC also has $85 million to speed up processing for certain lines of business, such as PR card renewals. IRCC Assistant Deputy Minister of Operations Daniel Mills said these PR card renewals were being processed in an average of 120 days in December, but by now it has been reduced to 65 days.

At the end of 2021 there were 9.6mn people living in Britain who were born overseas, or 14.5 per cent of the population.During the same year, almost one million visas were issued to people seeking to come and work, study or live in the UK. All of these figures are the highest they have ever been.

Germany issued 60,000 visas for skilled workers in 2021

Around 60,000 visas for skilled workers were issued to foreign nationals in 2021.
The work visa is issued to those who have completed vocational training in Germany or an equivalent course from elsewhere which is recognised in Germany.

Those who have completed higher studies from abroad which is comparable to similar education degrees in Germany,.
Germany faces a shortage of trained workers and is looking forward to fill this critical gap in its labour workforce.

*Nurse Deported back to Nigeria for fraudulent IELTS result*

A nurse (identity withheld) has been deported back to Nigeria for processing her NMC UK application with a IELTS result gotten fraudulently. The Nurse was said to have resumed work in UK in February,2022 after following due process of the NMC UK application and presented an IELTS result of 8.5 overall band.

She was observed to have a poor command of English which stirred up question among coworkers and patients

She was invited for questioning by the management team, the meeting with her further confirmed the allegations against her, as she could barely express herself correctly in English.

Not only was her employment canceled, she was banned from NMC UK register and thereafter deported back to Nigeria.

This should serve as a warning to desperate Nurses who want to leave Nigeria at all cost. If you must leave, please leave legitimately, work on your English and write you IELTS *yourself*. Don't present an IELTS results of 8.5 when you can't even speak a band 5 English.
Imagine all the stress this lady has gone through, only to be deported and banned by NMC UK.

Canada's immigration department has confirmed most new Express Entry applications will be processed in 6 months.
Prior to the pandemic, the Canadian government aimed to process most Express Entry immigration applications within six months.

Due to the pandemic, however, applicants have had to wait much longer.
Fortunately, IRCC has recently confirmed it will soon be processing most new Express Entry applications within six months. This will take effect once IRCC resumes Express Entry invitations to Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), CEC, and Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) candidates in early July.
The normalization of Express Entry in early July is major news for several reasons. First, Express Entry is the main way IRCC welcomes skilled workers to Canada. Permanent residence invitations to FSWP candidates have been temporarily paused since December 2020 while CEC candidates have not received invitations since September 2021, but this will no longer be the case come July. The FSWP was the main way Canada welcomed skilled immigrants between 1967 and the start of the pandemic, while the CEC accounted for one-third of the record-breaking 405,000 immigrants Canada landed in 2021. Resuming invitations for these two programs will provide hundreds of thousands of candidates with the opportunity to achieve their goal of gaining Canadian permanent residence.
The resumption of draws is also welcome news for Canadian employers. Statistics Canada reports Canada has over 800,000 job vacancies and its lowest unemployment rate on record. Employers need more immigrant talent to help address their worker shortages. That Express Entry is returning to normal and most new applications will be processed within six months means that employers will have access to more talent in the near future, which will be crucial to supporting Canada’s post-pandemic economic recovery.

Getting processing times back to six months is also notable for immigration candidates.
