SECURING THE BAG (18+)
CHAPTER ONE: RED DUST (cont'd 2)

You see, I went to school but my studies didn't come first, to me the university was a place to finally enjoy my freedom and catch fun and occasionally attend lectures. Nysc was a year long vacation in the middle belt, receiving monthly allowance and sowing wild oaths up and down, sleeping with corpers and indigenes alike.
But now it was over. I had my certificate in my bag and here I was, sitting in a terrible bus thinking of what to do with my life.
Do I start looking for a job? That didn't hold much promise cause even first class students were still roaming the streets not to talk of a 3rd mainland bridge holder like me. My degree was more or less useless....the ultimate culmination of 4 years of unseriousness.
Chai...
I'm going to be 22 in two months and all I had to my name was 40 thousand naira in my account. And I was going home to meet my widowed mother and two younger brothers.
For the first time in my life I began to feel the weight of the responsibility I was stepping up to. It was so heavy I could feel the pressure spreading in my chest.
As rotten stomach released another deadly gas and I rolled down my glass, I knew I had a messy path ahead of me and I had to hustle or become dust.

JECINCTA
"Omo Jessy you're my friend...no you're like my sister and I won't lie to you, you know I must tell you the truth"
Fifi got up from the bean chair and began pacing, a clear sign something big was on her mind, I instinctively shut the paper back novel I was reading and sat up, worriedly thinking of what she was going to say. True, I knew I didn't contribute enough for the monthly upkeep of the house and most of the bills were on her neck and I'd been expecting her to complain for a while now. Seeing her pace however, my heart began to beat fast. Was she going to send me packing, maybe replace me with another roommate?
".....The last three months I was like you're still settling down....but Jessy I can't take it anymore. This is Lagos o! you're not in the village anymore and you're not a child. You're 19 Jessy."
She sat down and looked at me. I'm guessing she could see the horror on my face as I was expecting her to give me a deadline to move out. But instead she said, "that supermarket you work is just wasting you. You're wasting away Jessy. Don't you know how beautiful you are? So many men have asked about you but I've been waiting, expecting you to take the initiative. I thought that maybe once you

SECURING THE BAG (18+)
CHAPTER ONE: RED DUST

FUOYO
The journey back to Lagos is one I would never forget for too many reasons. For one thing the condition of the bus was really terrible. The transport company had apparently played a fast one on us and put us in a faulty bus. The first sign of this was when the air conditioner began to turn to a heater barely 30 minutes into the journey. We had no choice but to roll down the windows or suffocate to death especially when we realized someone in the bus had a rotten stomach.... as in, really rotten.
Red dust occasionally surrounded the bus, forcing us to quickly roll up the windows and wait till we got to a more tarred road before rolling down again. But most of the road was un-tarred and the dust was a recurring problem plus rotten stomach kept releasing frequent gas, making me roll down my window once more; preferring to die by red dust.
To make matters worse, the bus was overloaded; travel bags and food-sacks were stashed here and there and even a goat was in the bus which made it impossible to stretch my legs fully...plus the bus broke down twice.
As you can guess the mood in the bus was foul, with plenty complaints and curses to the unknown messer but I remained quiet through out.
Staring out the window at the red dust, lost in my own world, plagued with the same question that had been disturbing me since the pass out parade three weeks ago.
What now?
What do I do with my life?
You know how it is when you attend school, graduate from the university, enjoy your youth service and the prestige of being called a 'corper' but then the moment you pass out, you suddenly realize you have no concrete plan for your life nor any safety net to fall back to.
Okay, obviously not you. I'm sure like most normal people you have your goals set down from the beginning, whether you plan to stop at a Bachelor's degree or go for your Masters or even pursue a Doctorate degree. Or at least you have a clear idea about the line of work you plan to contribute your labour quota.
But not me.

NO ROOM FOR LAWLESSNESS, HOOLIGANISM IN LAGOS... CP LAGOS

*As 19 Suspected Cultists Arrested in Alakuko*

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has again renewed his vow to suppress any act of lawlessness and hooliganism across the length and breadth of Lagos State.

The police boss made the assertion today, Monday 8th February, 2021, while addressing and deliberating on security issues with the Area Commaders and Police Mobile Force Commanders in Lagos State.

The meeting centred on the general security and public safety of Lagos State as the command has recorded some acts of lawlessness in some areas of the state.

He warned the Motorcycle operators, commercial drivers and Lagosians in general to respect the laws of the state and desist from attacking police personnel and other security operatives who are enforcing the Lagos State Traffic Regulations and COVID-19 safety protocols. He emphasised that the command will continue to discharge its duties without fair or favour.

While reacting on the ongoing cult related fracas at Alakuko, Dalemo and Kola areas of the state, the police boss confirmed the arrest of nineteen (19) suspected cultists during the crises. Items recovered from them included dangerous weapons, assorted charms and weeds suspected

to be Indian h**p.

The Commissioner of Police set the record straight that the intelligence at the command's disposal revealed that the hoodlums came from Otta axis of Ogun State to lay siege on the affected border communities on cult related crises and the command has been repelling them. The command has deployed additional police personnel, including Police Mobile Force, to curtail the hoodlums; and restored normalcy to the crises affected communities. He has also directed that the arrested suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for discreet Investigation.

CP Hakeem Odumosu however called on the community leaders in the areas to support the police in combating the crises and getting rid of the bad boys and their antics in their respective areas and in the state at large. He assured that the command is working assiduously with the Ogun State Police Command to decimate the activities of the hoodlums and cultists in the border areas and towns across the state.

Igboho Warns FG Over Frozen Bank Accounts, Rejects Award By Yoruba Youths

The Yoruba activist and warlord, Chief Sunday Adeyemo popularly known as Sunday Ighoho yesterday warned the Federal Government over his frozen bank accounts and rejected award of recognition from the Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA) .

Speaking at a meeting with the leadership of the Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association (YYSA) in Ibadan, Igboho had alleged that all his bank accounts have been frozen by the Federal Government due to the fact that some people were collecting donations, saying he had no hands in it.

Igboho warned that his accounts have to be unfrozen to avoid nationwide protest by youths across the southwest region.

He also frowned against those collecting donations on his behalf, saying that he never asked anybody to request for money from the general public or seek donations.

The association’s National President Olalekan Hammed, and Olawale Ajao National Secretary in a statement on Sunday noted that the group had

lengthy discussion with Chief Sunday Igboho on the issue of security across Yorubaland.

The youth who commended him for his super patriotism, ultranationalism, extraordinary courage and passion towards eliminating threats to peace in Yoruba land, however, appealed to the government to unfreeze his account before he unleashed war against criminal elements not peace loving herdsmen.

The youth presented award to Chief Sunday Igboho to serve as recognition for his nationalistic struggle but rejected it.

Responding, Igboho said “I know you are behind me and appreciate my efforts but we are just starting, let’s achieve putting an end to criminalities in Yoruba land first and after we have achieved freedom an elaborate award ceremony can now follow. Thank you. I know you are doing everything to boost my morale, I appreciate YYSA”.

Igboho charged Governor Seyi Makinde to order the arrest of a suspected Fulani criminal
, Iskilu Wakili who had been terrorising various parts of Ibarapaland over the last few days.

According to him, security agencies have so far taken no action.

“Yes the people are living in fear. They are afraid that the people might attack them and that is being done by one Isikilu Wakili. He has turned himself into terror and authority in the area and nothing is being done to address the situation.

“We heard about this two months ago and like I said nothing is being done to address it. If the governor hears about Waki

The Federal Government has stated arrangements are ongoing to replace the Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) with the National Identity Numbers (NIN).

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Dr Isa Pantami, who disclosed this to newsmen shortly after a tour of telecoms operators and NIN licensees in Abuja, said President Muhammadu Buhari has been briefed on the on-going NIN registrations.

Pantami who said the President was happy with the conducts of the exercise so far, added he had also briefed the National Economic Sustainability Committee headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on the imperative of replacing BVN with NIN.

Pantami argued that while BVN was only for accounts holders with various banks, the National Identity Numbers are for all Nigerians irrespective of their status.

To ascertain the smooth registration of Nigerians, the Minister visited the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) registration Centre in Gwarinpa, the Zonal Headquarters of MTN, Glo Mobile and Airtel in Maitama as well as a Private operator, OMNL, Nigeria.

Accompanied by the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof Garba Danbatta; Director-General General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa and Chief Executive Officer of NIMC, Engr Aliyu Aziz, the Minister said he was impressed by the strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols at all the registration centres.

Responding to challenges encountered by those with the BVN data trying to upgrade with NIN data, Pantami said:” The challenge is that the BVN records may not be 100 percent the same with NIN but what is most important is that the NIN is the primary identity of each and every citizen, including legal residents.

“BVN is a policy of a bank and has not been established by law, NIN is the only mandatory number and the primary identification of our citizens and every other identification is secondary.

“The NIMC Act 2007 provides that all our citizens must be enrolled and the law gives them 60 days to enroll from the time the law was enacted and a maximum of 180 days and all permanent residents in the country and legal residents that have to stay here for a minimum of 24 months must be enrolled.

“So this is the primary identification of all and all other data bases are supposed to utilize this and not for NIN to utilize the BVN because it is the primary one.

“We discussed with the CBN Governor today on how to ensure that all our citizens with BVN will immediately be provided with the NIN. We are working on that but fac

The Ekiti State Government has sued the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, seeking an order of the court to declare Section 127 of the Police Act and Regulations, which provides for the discharge from the Police Force female officers who become pregnant while married unofficially.

Joined as co-defendants in the suit are the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police and the Police Service Commission (PSC).

A Police Constable, Miss Olajide Omolola, who got pregnant in alleged flagrant violation of the police rules was recently dismissed.

The Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Olawale Fapohunda, in the suit (FHC/AD/ C8/ 8/ 2021) filed at the Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti, is asking the court to determine among others, whether the provisions of Section 127 of Police Act and Regulations are not in violation of the combined provisions of Sections 37 and 42 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended), and Articles 2,3, 5 18 (3) and 19 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights and therefore unconstitutional, null and void.

Pastor Mike Davids threatens Apostle Suleiman

Former pastor of the Omega Fire Ministries, Mike Davids, who had accused the General Overseer of the church, Apostle Johnson Suleman, of sleeping with his wife, has threatened to expose the truth behind the Stephanie Otobo’s s*x scandal.

Recall that between 2017 and 2018, Canada-based singer Stephanie Otobo accused Apostle Suleman of impregnating her and breaching a promise to marry her.

The accusation dragged on with Festus Keyamo standing as Stephanie's lawyer.

However, months later, Stephanie made a U-turn and confessed at the Omega Fire Ministries that she was paid by "strong" politicians and pastors to accuse Suleman.

"They paid me a lot of money," she said, crying in the video posted to the church's Facebook account.

Well, Davids who recently accused Suleman of sleeping with his wife, Faith Edeko, who currently heads an Abuja branch of the church, has said in a new video that he and Apostle Suleman both know how they got Otobo to come to the church in Auchi, and apologise over the scandal and how they persuaded her mother too.

Davids said: "I left the church (Omega Fire Ministries) of my freewill. You were never the one who sent me out of that ministry. I was tired of your ungodliness as a leader. And that was the major reason I left that ministry. So, forget those manipulations and cheap lies.

"We all know the part I played in the Stephanie Otobo saga. You know as much as I do. How much involved I was in bringing that saga to a halt. I don’t even need to mention names. You knew how we got Stephanie Otobo to come to the altar and apologise to mama (Suleman’s wife) and brought Stephanie Otobo’s mother to Auchi.

"I am coming to that issue because you are pushing me to that extent, Apostle Johnson Suleman as much as I knew what happened. Thirdly, I am also aware that my account has been frozen. You have also released policemen to get me arrested.

"You have 48 hours to ask those who are blocking my account to unblock it. You will not like what is going to follow."
