A significant price increase on the IELTS exam application fee has been announced by the British Council, effective February 1st.

The new fee of N139,000 represents a 29% increment from the previous N107,000.

The British Council has stated that, this adjustment is necessary to ensure the quality of the exam and its services.

As a courtesy to aspiring candidates, we are advising that anyone who wishes to take the IELTS exam at the current rate should book their test date before February 1st.

Even if your test date is after February 1st, you will still pay the current fee as long as you book before the new fee is implemented.

Please don't hesitate to book your test as soon as possible to avoid paying the new, higher fee.

Here are three things you should know about the IELTS Reading before you apply for the test.

✓IELTS Reading module contains 40 questions sectioned into three, which should be answered for 60 minutes.

1.When you write your answers, remember the examiner is grading you on your productive skill, use a wide range of expressions, and that's where you need to put your "grammatical range" into use.There are no wrong or right answers.

2.Examine the questions properly and see that you cater for all parts of the question.

3.Remember to stick to the word limit. If it happens you write lesser than 150 words in Task1 or lesser than 250 in Task 2,
you will lose marks, because word count is the first criteria to grade you as far as IELTS writing is concerned.

4.Always write the answer in your own language,if you use the words from the question exactly,you will not be given marks for the same . Here you have to be very rich in registers.

5.Avoid using bullet list to analyze your ideas . Develop your basic ideas into different paragraphs.This shows the examiner how well you can organize your points.

6.Do not concentrate on writing long and complicated answers. Write well ,coherent organise your thoughts well .Ensure your grammar is immaculate.

7.When attempting Academic writing Task 1,you will have to select and compare relevant information from data presented in graph,table or diagram. When writing introduction,never copy the texts from the question . Always use your words.

8.Tasks 2 of Academic writing test is an eassy.Always plan the structure of your essay beforehand. Place a nice introduction, supporting ideas and real-life example,followed by a conclusion.

8 STEPS TO DESCRIBE A DIAGRAM FOR IELTS ACADEMIC WRITING (Task 1)

Here are things to do and take note of

1.Read the title and study the image of the diagram, then write about it. This will be your introduction

2.Describe the diagram in detail, this will be your main body of the text.

3.Add sequencing words to your text in other to connect your descriptive sentences to make it flow better.

4.Make sure to include passive form in the description to define an action that is done.

5.Make sure you paragraph your second and third lines to avoid redundancy.

6.Include conditional and adverb clauses to indicate possible outcome when describing the diagram.

7.Write a clear summary of the principal idea of the diagram in one single paragraph.

8.Read through your written work to check for errors and rectify them.

They are very different .

Although both are examination system to test people's ability on English language.

IELTS (International English language testing system) used to test the proficiency in language if migrating for work or academic.
