“Free and fair elections is necessary to give rise to good governance.

Our democracy is broadly participatory and as such, but be objective.

It is necessary that it is fundamentally free and fair.

Elections must be free of hooliganism, forgery and other malpractices.

In saner clime, election security is given concern and it is adjusted over time.

One major factor that still remains in contention is the mindset of the leaders of some security agencies.

They must see the safety of election as a matter of national security.

Our political leaders also have a mindset of millitarainism - they want to dominate on the people. This cannot be overlooked.

This building dedicated in his honour is a testament to the man he was - a bridge builder and a man of peace.

This building is also important, like the roundtable held in the honour of our friend and father.
He was an excellent person - attaining early success in the oil and gas industry before venturing into politics.

He is sorely missed for his ability to find the humorous in all he did.

He loved his wife and children so dearly.

He once joked about how his wife was controlling him. He would list his achievements and say "darling, sha ma control mi ló"

I can tell his many jokes because of my very close interactions with him.

Man has not yet developed any better system than the government of the people for the people by the people - encapsulated in one word - democracy.

Ajimobi takes over as Acting National Chairman, calls for peace in APC



Deputy National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (South), Senator Abiola Ajimobi has called on all APC Stakeholders to continue to observe the peace as he assumes position as acting National Chairman of the APC.
Senator Ajimobi spoke on Tuesday night through his Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy, Bolaji Tunji, in the aftermath of the order of the Court of Appeal affirming the suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as National Chairman.

Senator Ajimobi took over the leadership of the party in line with Section 14 subsection 3 of the APC constitution that states that, “the Deputy National Chairman shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone”.

According to a Statement by the Spokesman to the Acting National Chairman, a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC), would be called soon to resolve all contentious issues. “We should therefore let peace continue to reign until we call the NEC meeting and take a position on the way forward”, he said.

It would be recalled that Senator Ajimobi took over as the Deputy National Chairman in March 2020 when the NWC wrote a letter to the Southwest to nominate a candidate for the vacant position of the Deputy National Chairman (South) when the position became vacant with the appointment of Otunba Niyi Adebayo as Minister.

The appointment of Senator Ajimobi received the support of five of the Six South West states of Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ogun and Lagos with Ekiti alone protesting the nomination. This was however not enough to stop the nomination as Ajimobi had majority of the states in the zone supporting his nomination.

Ajimobi’s appointment into the NWC was further affirmed by a Federal High Court.
