Jabez means sorrow, but Jabez did not allow his name to determine his future. He had faith in the Lord. He understood the power of prayer and he used it. And God granted his requests.
Mathew 7:7 says "Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."

It was during the time of apostasy in Israel, like our world today but Jabez chose to go to Jehovah El Shaddai The Great Provider who has more than sufficient.
Jabez could have gone to Baal or other gods. He knows what the word of God says in Jeremiah 33:3 "call upon me in the days of trouble and I will show you great and mighty things that you do not understand ".
Jabez circumstances brought him to God and his prayers were answered.
1Chronicles 2:54 says Jabez was honoured with a city.

I was told 21years ago that I am going to be on TV. Not that I did not believe God, I just don't know how or what will ever take me to TV station.
I dont sing, never sang in my life, not a preacher, not a newscaster and definitely not a drama person. But all of a sudden, I started singing and composing songs about 6months ago.
The book of Isaiah 55:11 says, "so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
God is telling you today according to His word in Jeremiah 29:11..that his plan is to prosper you and not to harm you and plans to give you hope and a future.
