🔵|Mistakes You Should Avoid As A JAMBite

As everyone keeps preparing for the upcoming 2024 JAMB UTME, I have provided you with key mistakes you should avoid as a JAMBite.

Take time to go through this post till the very last line.

📯 Relying too much on JAMB Past Questions: as good and important as Past questions are, it is more important to read your textbooks first. This will enable you to know why A, B C, OR D in your Past Questions is correct or wrong. Don't forget that JAMB PQs are compiled by people like you. This means the PQs are not totally free of errors. You can save yourself of learning the wrong things by first learning the topics right from the Textbooks where the questions were taken from.

📯Using only JAMB CBT Practice Apps: as good as these apps also are, they will only limit how well you should prepare for your exam if you don't read your textbooks first. The point is that you should do what is expected of you first and then these apps can be a complement to whatever areas that are left.

📯 Being Overconfident: the simplest subject or question is sometimes the most difficult to pass. Don't assume a Subject especially is too cheap and leave it unattended to. No matter how simple a Subject looks, read and study it to the very last detail. The goal is to perform excellently in your exams. Therefore, leave no room for assumption. Don't be Overconfident. Read and cover as much as you can up to the very last day of exam.

🔵|What You Should Know About The JAMB Mock

It became important to make a post that explains what the JAMB Mock is about especially for the new JAMBites.

Firstly, a mock is simply an exam you write before a major exam. For most schools, a mock is conducted in JSS3 or SS3 second terms because by the third terms, you'll be writing your Junior or Senior WAEC respectively.

In the case of a JAMBite, the JAMB Mock is the exam you sit for before your majoe exam which is the JAMB UTME you're presently preparing for.

Now, below are important things you should know about this JAMB Mock we're saying:

✍️The reason for the JAMB mock examination is only to give you an idea of what the JAMB CBT feels like, especially as a first timer.

✍️ The JAMB Mock Exam is not compulsory - you can choose not to write it. Therefore whether you write it or not, it won't stop you from writing your main exam. However, it is recommended you do, especially if you're a new JAMBite.

✍️The JAMB Mock will be marked and the results released just as your main exam. However, the result of the mock will not be added to the result of the main examination.

✍️Because the exam is optional, you will be asked if you will like to register for it or not during JAMB registration next year.

✍️For those writing the JAMB Mock, you will pay slightly higher than those not writing. This explains the differences in the breakdown of fees JAMB released - there is one for Mock, there is another for without Mock.

✍️If you earlier indicated interest to write the mock exam during your JAMB registeration and later changed your mind, there is no problem at all. JAMB will not penalize you for that. You will still write the main exam like every other registered candidate.

✍️The questions that will appear during the JAMB Mock are not necessarily the questions that will appear during the main exam.

✍️The JAMB mock is expected to start a specified time and at the various centers. You'll be asked to print a slip that bears your time and venue.

✍️There will be no MAKE UP test if you miss the JAMB mock.

✍️For the JAMB mock examination, the candidate's venue will be within the state they registered the UTME for.

🔵|UPDATE: Why We Increased The Price Of 2024 JAMB Registeration

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says the registration fee for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) was increased due to the hike in the price of diesel.

The Registrar of JAMB, Prof Ishaq Oloyede, stated that the fee was increased because operators of CBT centres complained about the hike in the cost of operations.

Recall that the price of 2024 JAMB registeration was increased from N5,700 (in 2023) to N7,700.

The breakdown of the fees is as follows: N7,700 (with Mock) and N6,200 (without Mock).

The JAMB boss said some of the operators of CBT are complaining of increment in their operating costs following the high cost of diesel.

He said the examination body did not increase the cost of the form but only the cost of running the CBT.

"We have not increased the cost of form, we only allowed the centres to charge a bit more. We are going to collect it for them. Why are we collecting for them? If we leave them to do it, they will exploit the students. They would be collecting N4,000-N5,000 per student. Pay to us, we will transfer to them weekly," he said.

Speaking on the challenges CBT operators are facing, Mr Oloyede said the business is profitable. However, managers are stealing money from owners. He added that new fees will allow the operators to survive the inflationary pressure.

🔵|Three (3) Steps To JAMB Registration

So for a lot of people especially those new to JAMB, they don't really know how to go about the whole process of Registration.

This post will summarize all you need to know. Read till the end - it's short, simple, and direct.

📯1: CREATION OF JAMB PROFILE CODE
This is the most important step for your JAMB registeration because it determines whether you will be able to register or not.

Like I told someone, your JAMB profile code is like fuel - without it you can't drive your car. In other words without your JAMB profile code, you can't register for your JAMB. Your profile code creation is the first and most important step.

📯2: PURCHASE OF EPIN
This is what you will actually submit at the point where you will do your JAMB registeration.

The JAMB Epin is actually generated with your JAMB profile code. This means if you never had your JAMB profile code, you can't generate your Epin which means there's no JAMB registeration for you.

Now, getting Epin is not free and you'll have to get it from JAMB. The prices vary depending on how much it is for every year. Since it's not time to get your Epin now, I will be making a post on that later.

📯3: JAMB REGISTRATION
This is the final step and it is where you no do the main registeration itself. Here, you'll submit your details - every information about yourself. You'll also submit your Olevel results if you have any if not, you'll Register as a candidate awaiting their result.

📯 Getting JAMB profile code is FREE. You're not paying anyone and no one can do it for you. It has to be done on your phone by yourself. Don't get Scamm€d while trying to get your JAMB profie code. You have heard.

📯Many are having issues getting their profile code. If you indeed followed the instructions in the previous post and JAMB isn't sending you your profile code or it is returning an error message, leave it and exercise patience for now. It's a general issue and JAMB will have it resolved soon. If you keep sending, #50 will keep being deducted for every sent message.

📯If you did JAMB last year, you can reuse your last year's JAMB profile code.

📯What you're expected to pay for is your JAMB Epin and it is not now. Details on that will be posted when it's time. Don't send anyone money unnecessarily and get scamm€d.

📯 Finally, if you're new to this page, take time to go through the previous posts before coming to ask questions that have already been answered.

STEPS TO CREATE YOUR JAMB PROFILE CODE.

✅Method One
✍️Open the text message app on your phone.
✍️Type NIN and space it
✍️ Type your eleven (11) digit NIN number
✍️Send the message to either 55019 or 66019
✍️You will receive your ten (10) digit JAMB profile code.
✍️Keep this code safe. You'll need it for your JAMB registeration.

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is a body charged with the responsibility of conducting entrance exam for prospective students into Nigeria Tertiary Institutions.

The examination is known as the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and usually a Computer based standardized examination designed to assess problem solving, knowledge of scientific concepts, critical reasoning and principles significance.

📯When will JAMB 2024 Registration begin?
15th January to 26th February, 2024

📯Who is qualified to sit for UTME?
Those who have completed or about to complete full course of training in a Secondary School, technical college, teacher training college or an approved institution of equivalent status.

📯What are the credentials for Jamb 2024 Registration?
I) National Identification Number (NIN)
ii) Olevel result - WAEC, NECO, ALevels, others: those with awaiting results can also apply.

📯How can I register for JAMB?
For now, registration has not started, but you will be required to purchase UTME Registration E pin, either from JAMB Offices, authorized banks, or other bodies, and then proceed to any JAMB or approved CBT centres for proper registration.

📯How many subjects will a candidate write?
Four subjects, which include:
i) Compulsory Use of English and three other subjects related to your intending course of study.

*How long will Jamb Registration lasts?*
Four weeks,, Just keep over #7000 for E pin and Registration proper.

📯How many years can one use a JAMB UTME result for admission?
A UTME result is only valid for one academic session.

📯When is the Exam date for 2024 UTME?

Use of English: A-Z JAMB Use of English, Invisible Teacher

Biology: MODERN BIOLOGY. If you don't have this or can't get it, you can try getting NEW SCHOOL BIOLOGY.

Chemistry: NEW SCHOOL CHEMISTRY (Ababio). You can complement it with LAMLAD chemistry especially for the calculation aspect of chemistry. Other textbooks like ESSENTIAL and COMPREHENSIVE CHEMISTRY are best for your Olevel exams like WAEC & NECO.

Physics: NEW SCHOOL PHYSICS. You can complement it with LAMLAD PHYSICS especially for calculations. Other textbooks like COMPREHENSIVE and ESSENTIAL PHYSICS are best for other exams like WAEC & NECO.

Other Subjects: For the art and commercial students, the list of recommended textbooks for your respective subjects can be found on the last page of your JAMB syllabus and so all you need to do is get the syllabus and check it out.

Finally, ensure to complement your reading with Past Questions.

You can get the JAMB REMIX PAST QUESTIONS series for all the science subjects. There are also several others out there you can get.

🔵|RAED THIS: Differences Between JAMB Cutoff Marks And Your School's Cut-off Mark

Many JAMBites don't know the difference between the general Cut-off marks released by JAMB and later by each school. Which is more important - JAMB's or your School's? This post will clarify this for you. Now keep reading.

Basically, there are two (2) categories of cut-off marks:
☯️JAMB general cut-off
☯️Your Institutions' cut-off

The JAMB cut-off mark is simply the minimum entry UTME requirement you need to enter any Institution, be it a university, Polythecnic, or College of Education.

Say 140 for example being the cutoff marks for universities in one of the previous years means, having a UTME score of anything from 140 and above qualifies you to apply to a university.

However, being qualified to apply is not the same as being qualified to be admitted. This is why the JAMB cut-off is limited, because it is just the minimum score JAMB places so that no Institution would peg their cut-off lower than that. This is where the Institutions' cut-off comes in. This is also why even though JAMB has placed a general Cut-off mark, every institution can still decide which they want to use, just that they ensure it doesn't go below what JAMB had already set.

Now, your Institution's cut off is divided into the GENERAL and the DEPARTMENTAL cut off marks.

The GENERAL is what qualifies to apply to the school while the DEPARTMENTAL is what qualifies you to apply for and undergo either an examination or screening for the course you applied for.

To put it clearer, JAMB gives a GENERAL cut off mark which schools are allowed to freely choose theirs, making sure it does not go below, but is either ON or ABOVE what is already set.

What determines admission primarily is the INSTITUTION'S cut-off mark, particularly the DEPARTMENTAL.

Note that not all Institutions will use exactly the same cutoff JAMB gave.
☯️For less or least competitive schools especially private and state Institutions, they may stick to the general cut-offs.
☯️For top or highly competitive schools, they most likely would peg their cut-off from 180 and above.

In other words, whenever JAMB releases the general cut-off, dont rely so much on it because even though it is important, it is not really the major determinant of admission into school.

Now why is this post coming? This is to prepare you for next year's JAMB. Forget that JAMB will release a general Cut-off mark. Forget also that your school will release a general Cut-off mark. Get prepared to score far higher and above whatever cutoff mark your school sets for your course.

This means, if your school's cutoff mark for your course is 180, you should aim at 220+

If your course is 200, aim at 240+

If your course is 240, aim at 280+

For even competitive courses like Medicine, Nursing, Law, Accounting, and others in that category, your aim should be hitting 290+.

Why? The higher you score above the DEPARTMENTAL cut-off mark, the higher your chances of getting admitted.

Few candidates sent in a message asking why only JAMB Use of English was selected for the tutorial despite that there are other subjects. Now below are the reasons:

✍️We're taking JAMB Use of English because it is a general subject and common ground for everyone, irrespective of the course you intend to study.

✍️It has also been found out that lot of candidates most times don't do well in the JAMB Use of English, because they don't know what to expect, and therefore don't know how to prepare for it.

✍️Another reason for the common failure is the Oral English aspect of the exam in which not all candidates were or are exposed to in their secondary school. This also creates a loophole in their exam that failure can exploit.

From the previous years, JAMB statistics has always shown that Use of English is one of the subjects with low performance. This explains why we're taking up the responsibility for Use of English this time around.

Kindly note that registeration is still on for the class and deadline remains first week of December after which one one will be taken in again.

Entry fee remains Five Hundred Naira ( #500) per month which is the lowest amount you may find anywhere.
