FONDANT FLAWS AND SOLUTIONS

Here are some challenges you might encounter when working on your fondant.

ELEPHANT SKIN : on your fondant is caused by excess corn starch when rolling and dryness of fondant.

SOLUTION: Apply a little vegetable shortening on your work surface and roll.

CRACKS AND CREVICES: they appear on your fondant as a result of over kneading or when you over work your fondant.

SOLUTION: knead your fondant well , do not over knead.

SRAY MARKS: they are marks seen on your fondant when your precision tool or craft knife accidentally touches your fondant.

SOLUTION: Be careful with the use of fondant tools to avoid marks on your cakes

HOW TO MAKE FRIED MEAT PIE

INGREDIENTS FOR THE DOUGH

4 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon softened butter
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoons powdered milk
400mls water
2 egg whites for sealing

THE MEAT PIE FILLING

4 medium sized irish potatoes
1 medium sized carrot
1/2 kg minced meat
1 tablespoon dried thyme leaves
1 medium sized red onion
Seasoning cubes to taste
Salt to taste
Pepper (Optional)
1 cup water
1 tablespoon flour

DIRECTION :

1. Add all dry ingredients to a bowl, mix well
2. Dilute the milk in the water and add
3. Mix well into a dough and set aside.
* Then,Cook the meat with seasoning, half the diced onion and thyme till meat turns brown.
* Add the diced potatoes, carrots and onion
* Stir, check for taste, add salt if needed, cover and leave to cook while you check from time to time and if pot begins to dry up before vegetables soften, you can add the water and continue to cook.
* When they are beginning to get soft, add the flour to thicken and leave to simmer for about 3 minutes before you turn off the heat.

NOW, BACK TO THE DOUGH .

1. Divide into smaller sizes
2. Roll briefly to flatten.
3. Cut with your meat pie cutter or a cup
Repeat until you have stacked all the cut circles.
4. Brush egg white on each surface
5. Scoop the cooked filling with a tablespoon and place in the middle. Fold,
6. Heat oil in a pot or deep fryer
7. Fry in batches till brown to your taste.
