LIFE OF A SALARY EARNER

Let me start by giving you a short story.
A mouse was put at the top of a jar full of grains. He was too happy to find too much food around him. Now he doesn't have to run around searching for food and can happily lead his life.

As he enjoyed the grains, in few days time, he reached to the bottom of the jar. Now he is trapped and cannot come out of it. He has to solely depend on someone to put grains in the same jar for him to survive.

He may even not get the grains of his choice and he cannot choose either. If he has to live, he has to feed on whatever has been put into the jar.

The story ends here.

The Key Difference Between Money and Wealth

Have you ever seen an article about a lottery winner or a famous person suddenly broke and wonder “how can that be?”

The answer is actually quite simple.

Some people just don’t understand what wealth really means.

Too often I hear people say things like, “If I only had that high paying job, I’d be financially free,” or “If I was a millionaire then all my money problems would be solved.”

I have a big problem with statements like these because they assume having lots of money is what leads to financial freedom.

I can tell you, it doesn’t.

In fact, you can have a lot of money and still be poor.

You can have a lot of money and still feel like you’re locked in a jail cell.

Take a look at Mike Tyson.

At one time he was the undisputed heavyweight boxing champion of the world. At the height of his career, he was estimated to have been worth $300 Million.

But, by the end of his career, Mike had filed for bankruptcy owing several million dollars to debt collectors and the IRS.

All the money in the world didn’t bring Mike Tyson peace of mind or financial freedom.

And this isn’t just something only rich people do.

How many stories have you heard of regular people winning tens of million playing the lotto only to wind up broke a few years later?

Most people define financial freedom as having enough money to retire.

According to Charles Schwab, on average, Americans believe they need $1.7 million to retire. The problem is that money will only go so far depending on where you live and what retirement dreams you want to fulfill.

If you think this will take you far - try kicking your feet up on the beaches of Hawaii and see how long that money will last.

Here’s another fun fact for you.

Do you know the #1 fear when it comes to retirement?

If you guessed death, then you’d be wrong.

Forbes did a survey and it turns out only 20% of people are worried about dying vs. 58% of people are worried about running out of money in retirement?

Because of this fear, I believe that’s why most people seek a secure job with a pension or invest heavily into their 401(k).

Chasing after some arbitrary number is not the true meaning of financial freedom.

The problem with that concept is for most people there’s no such thing as enough money.

The reality is that financial freedom is not about how much money you have. Rather, it’s about a change in your mindset.
You have to change your mindset to understand that financial freedom comes from financial intelligence.

When you have financial intelligence, you understand the importance of investing in assets.

I define an “asset” as an investment that puts money in your pocket instead of taking it out.

When you generate enough money from your assets that equal your expenses then you are financially free and have peace of mind.

And when your assets generate MORE money coming into than out…

That’s when the fun really begins.

Once upon a time, a very strong woodcutter asked for a job in a timber merchant and he got it. The pay was really good and so was the work condition. For those reasons, the woodcutter was determined to do his best.

His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he supposed to work.

The first day, the woodcutter brought 18 trees.

“Congratulations,” the boss said. “Go on that way!”

Very motivated by the boss words, the woodcutter tried harder the next day, but he could only bring 15 trees. The third day he tried even harder, but he could only bring 10 trees. Day after day he was bringing less and less trees.

“I must be losing my strength”, the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.

“When was the last time you sharpened your axe?” the boss asked.

“Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees…”

Reflection:

Our lives are like that. We sometimes get so busy that we don’t take time to sharpen the “axe”. In today’s world, it seems that everyone is busier than ever, but less happy that ever.

Why is that? Could it be that we have forgotten how to stay “sharp”? There’s nothing wrong with activity and hard work. But we should not get so busy that we neglect the truly important things in life, like our personal life, taking time to get close to our Creator, giving more time for our family, taking time to read etc.

We all need time to relax, to think and meditate, to learn and grow. If we don’t take the time to sharpen the “axe”, we will become dull and lose our effectiveness.

Never kill a _Business Plan_ because it sounds crazy to you, remember someone thought of metal floating on water (SHIP): sounds crazy but today, it's happening. Trust me you will be criticised or even mocked but do not despair; no matter how small it is, *_just try doing something!_*

*If you try and succeed, cool 👍 you will make a great mentor to someone.*

*Never quit trying!😏 Go get your goal👈*

*MTN* came to Nigeria at a time when nobody wanted to invest in Nigeria, at a time when Nigerians did not have phones. Even *Banks refused to loan MTN* cash to operate, but today see the difference.

What about *Cowbell?* When they came to Nigeria, they made milk in sachets, *Peak was laughing at them - they said Cowbell was milk for the poor* - but they were right!
3-million poor people could afford N10 a day for a sachet of milk.
Do the mathematics - 3 million people buying milk at N10.00 - that was N30million every single day. In a month they grossed N900million (almost N1billion). Even *PEAK* had to make sachet milk in order to *SURVIVE in the MARKET.*

So what have people told you? What have they said you cannot do, or you do not qualify for, or you do not have experience for? They told *Cowbell,* they told *MTN,* but today the *STORY has CHANGED.* I have a feeling something is changing for you today! They will change their strategies just to keep in step with you. Don't listen to what people are saying or what life is showing you.
*YES, YOU CAN.*
Success is not about where you graduated from, or what grade you graduated with, but what graduates out of you.
Keep the spirit UP..
