My father passed away at 62. I was sa.d, I was an.gry, I was pained. I always feel jealous when I see people celebrating their fathers 70th and 80th Birthday. I am always like why didn't Papilo lived up to 80? Why 62? Why not even 70?

Then I started seeing young men who passed away at 50 leaving children who were still in secondary school behind...
I saw posters of men who passed away at 40 leaving toddlers behind, children who can't make decisions on their fathers fu.neral... and somehow, I became grateful.

I became grateful that my father lived long enough for me to be aware and mature enough to make decisions and planned his fu.neral.

I became grateful that my father lived long enough for me to tell his story.

It is an underated privilege to be old enough to plan and bvry your parents.

Then my brother passed away at 17 about 5 months after I lost my father, I felt like shebi if my brother lived up to 62 years I would be grateful?😒

Why didn't my brother stayed with us till 50 or even 40?

Then I started thinking, what if my brother was a still born and I never get to see him, know him, hug him, take photos and make videos of him?

What if he passed away as a toddler where I can't say anything about his personality?

Anywhere you find yourself in life's journey, be grateful because that point in life you think is not a privilege, someone wishes they get to that point.

Someone is actually praying to get there.

I realized that my anguish, worrying, anxiety, stress… doesn’t solve your problems but aggravates mine. I realized that i can only give you advice if you ask but it depends on you to follow or not. Whatever decision you take, its consequences good or bad, you will have to live with them. I am not responsible for actions of anyone. I realized that i can only control myself. My job is to care for you, love you, encourage you but after that it all depends on you to solve you problems and find your own happiness.
Therefore, I should remain calm and let each of you solve your problems yourself.” Everyone at home was speechless. From that day on, the family began to function better because everyone in the house knew exactly what it is that they needed to do!

"I was abandoned by my mother at the age of seven months (7months) with my father and stepmother. My stepmother was mean. I endured all manner of maltreatments she meted at me. Sometimes I went hungry for days. She would so starve me that I would be seeing d€ath. On one occasion, I was very hungry that I had to eat our dog’s leftovers food. Our neighbor’s son caught me eating the dog’s leftover food (eba and egusi) and he told his mother who later that evening invited me to her house and asked me if what her son said was true. I was so terrified that I begged her not to tell my step mother, because she will k!ll me if she knew that I ate the dog’s leftover instead of throwing it away. The woman wept and promised to give me food everyday without my stepmother’s knowledge, a promise she kept till we left the compound. As if starving me was not enough punishment, my Stepmother fl0gged me mercilessly until I would faint at times. She would also apply pepper in my va**na, eyes, armpit and neck, tie me up and abandon me in one of the toilets for days without food. Despite all these experiences, I was very bright academically and was loved and favored by God and people. I knew that the only way to escape was to achieve educational success, so I never joked with schooling. So you see, I have every right to be hateful, bitter, jealous, arrogant, sad, negative and toxic but I chose not to."
