At the 5th Annual Women at Risk International Foundation(WARIF) No Tolerance March held in Lagos.

The day we marched together as a force against all forms of violence and sexual abuse against women and girls. Together we raised our voices for a world with zero tolerance for Gender-based violence.

*Today we want to build a community that values consent and respect women. A community where NO MEANS NO!!! Standing in solidarity with survivors of sexual violence and abuse and holding perpetrators to account.

*Today we stand by many women in Nigeria and across the globe whose voices have been silenced for too long and those who found courage to break the silence.

*Today we are honouring the survivors, activists, and women’s rights advocates who have been bravely telling their stories to prevent and end violence against women. This is a call to listen to and believe survivors, to end the culture of silence and impunity, and to respectfully put the survivors, women and girls at the centre of our responses. It is a strong call to law enforcement to hold perpetrators accountable and prioritize the safety and wellbeing of every woman at all times.

I extend my gratitude to the members of the Reintegration Committee, Imo State and the Executive Director of the Global Centre for Refugees Migrant Returnee Re-Integration among others, who were led to my office by Chief Jeto Nwadi and Nwamaka Princess Okogbuo on an advocacy visit on July 26, 2023.

The group expressed their appreciation to His Excellency for the 3R Administration's tremendous accomplishment in Imo State.

Our meeting focused on sharing ideas on how best to mitigate, make sure our returnees are well reintegrated into society and also eradicate the irregular migration of our people.

My office will collaborate with the relevant bodies to make sure the challenges these groups are presently facing are attended to.

The Imo State Commander of the National Agency For The Prohibition Of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Mr. Ernest Ogbu, the Executive Director of Open Arms Initiative for Sustainable Development, Okeji Juliet O, Osai Foundation, Ogechi Ikeh and Nwamaka Princess Okogbuo of Global Centre for Refugees Migrant Returnee Re-Integration and some staff of NAPTIP paid an advocacy visit to my office.

After our salutations, we discussed various topics from the work the agency has been able to accomplish so far despite the challenges they faced, my office’s efforts in launching the Deborah house as the SARC centre, to the need for profiling returnees from the state and reintegrating them into society.

The issue of Human trafficking has increased tremendously in the state and all hands must be on deck to curb this evil in our society. The NAPTIP will continue to collaborate with various organizations in several sectors as human trafficking is built through networks and it will take deliberate and intentional efforts to curb this.

I commended all present for their activities in their various sectors. I also implore the public to join hands in fighting against this menace in our society.

One high-profile issue in the last few years has been migrants’ use of information communications technology (ICT) during migration journeys. Sparked in part by mass migration events, researchers, policy-makers, analysts and law enforcement agencies have invested time and energy in understanding how ICT is being used to facilitate migration, most especially irregular migration involving smugglers.

Technology addiction can be defined as frequent and obsessive technology-related behavior increasingly practiced despite negative consequences to the user of the technology.

Abuse of technology is improper use of devices such as mobile phones, computers and internet to access illegal or inappropriate content which may be counter-productive to the youths, been vulnerable to human trafficking and other related crimes.

For instance, youths are dangerously attracted and addicted to video games, other counter-productive websites, which doesn't have any progressive impact on them. The negative application or usage of technology has become a major impediment to our society.

Join us in collaboration with on 29th July, as we commemorates World Day Against Trafficking In Persons 2022 with the theme: Use and Abuse of Technology.
