On behalf of the African Action Congress Lagos, we wish every one of us a Happy New.
As we bid farewell to the challenging year of 2023, we do so with heads held high, despite the economic, political, and social hardships we faced. Though there were bruises, there were also significant victories:

1. Reclaiming our Party and End of Sowore’s Illegal Detention: We emerged victorious in the legal battle for our party, defeating Leonard's attempt to turn our party into a ruling class appendage. Also, our comrade Sowore was victorious in the court case that permitted the state to restrict his movement to Abuja.

2. Making a political statement: Despite not winning any political seat in the last election, we made a statement and our candidate comrade Omoyele Sowore was in the mouth of opposition supporters all around Nigeria. The working class had the opportunity to run and challenge the ruling class in their election. It will be the first time since Gani’s NCP, that we had so many youth and working-class Nigeria representing revolution on the ballot.

3. Community and state victories: Through the tireless effort of the Take It Back movement TIB, with our own Hon.Opeyemi on the frontline, we were able to stop the demolition in Oworoshoki and we continue to keep watch there. Also, the TIB with Comrade Omoyele Sowore on at the frontline forced the Akeredolu cabal to relinquish power after clinging to the seat of the governor for more than 6month despite knowing he was dying

Our losses: We mourned the death of two comrades. The Lagos Island women leader Comrade Adedotun Funmilayo and Comrade Blaze. While alive, they dared to struggle for the liberation of Nigeria despite its unpopularity, and Their sacrifice and unwavering commitment to social justice will forever inspire us.

Eyes on the Future
Comrades, as we step into the new year, we are fueled with optimism. We encourage us as individuals and as a party to keep the revolutionary fire burning. No one said it was or is going to be easy but all successful revolutions in history happened because the working class did not relent at a time, when the ultimate victory seemed far or impossible. Our revolution has no specific date because it depends on the readiness of the working class/ ordinary people of Nigeria. It is why we must keep organizing tirelessly with the people, toward a revolution either by the ballot or streets, stand and fight alongside the people against the ruling class whose goal is to trump our economic, social, and political freedom and, impoverish the masses with their continuous stealing of our commonwealth.

TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT, NIGERIA

PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY THE GENDER DEPARTMENT OF THE TAKE IT BACK MOVEMENT

Thursday 28th December 2023

: THE NIGERIA POLICE MUST IMMEDIATELY CONCLUDE ITS INVESTIGATION AND MAKE THEIR FINDINGS PUBLIC.

WE CONDEMN IN STRONG TERMS, THE INCESSANT THREATS OF PHYSICAL ATTACKS AGAINST LATE MOHBAD'S WIFE, AND CHILD

Gentlemen, and Women of the Press. We appreciate your presence here today as we address the continuous delay of Justice in the case of Ilerioluwa Oladimeji, popularly referred to as "Mohbad".

The Nigeria Police in a manner popular with it has continued to keep silent about its ongoing investigation into the death of a Nigerian musician, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as “Mohbad”.

In September, the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi in a statement said that the Lagos state Police Command had been tasked with investigating the death of the 27 year old musician who died under murky circumstances.

Despite announcing the completion of autopsy for the late singer, the Nigeria Police has kept mute and is no longer providing information on the case.

Recall that the circumstances surrounding the death of the late singer sparked a public outcry and the eventual emergence of the campaign which metamorphosed into protests across the country.

The continued delay in getting justice for the late Mohbad has exposed his wife, Wumi, and only child, Liam to several attacks like cyber bullying, cyber stalking, organised malicious campaigns against their persons, and even physical harassment. The same fate the late Mohbad suffered while he was alive.

The Take It Back Movement calls on the Nigeria Police to stop the needless delays, make public its findings from the investigation, and protect the rights of the deceased wife and child.

We also call on the police to take note of threats of physical harm against the wife, and child of the deceased, and bring perpetrators to justice, accordingly.

Signed,
Omolola Pedro,
Head, Gender Department
Take It Back Movement.

: As a follow up to today's Press Conference, a petition has been sent to by the Femi Falana Chambers over threats of physical attacks against the Late Mohbad's wife, and child.

Aketi: Resume or Resign - Socialist Workers League 15/12/2023

"The African Action Congress is organising an “Akeredolu: Resume or Resign” town hall meeting in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Saturday 16 December. This demand reflects the view of most people in the state. Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has refused to vacate his position despite being ill for an extended period and in contempt of the constitutional provision for him to transmit power to his deputy in such circumstances."

"We cannot continue with this sort of impunity by people in power and their hangers-on who manipulate the situation like members of Yar’Adua’s kitchen cabinet did until his death. The people of Ondo State deserve better and must fight for the right thing to be done.

SWL supports the AAC’s call and urges residents of the state to come out en masse to demand Akeredolu’s resumption or resignation. Temporary transmission of gubernatorial power at this point is a sham."

Take It Back Movement, Lagos State Chapter

13th Dec., 2023.

Our attention has been drawn to the unprofessional conduct by men of the Nigerian police force attached to the Festac division, Lagos state.

In a post shared on Facebook by the victim who just flew in to Nigeria from the United State of America, a Professor of Art History at the University of Texas, Austin, Professor Moyo Okediji. It is so disheartening that our Nigerian police force are not representing us positively in the face of the outside world and it is a shame on them and Nigerians at large.

Professor Moyo Okediji offense is visiting his home country after spending years in the diaspora but fell victim of circumstance, he was first robbed off of $500 by men of the Nigerian immigration attached to Seme border after willingly giving out the sum of $40. Getting to Lagos, he met another misfortune in the hands of the Nigerian police but with the intervention of igbo youths within the area, he was able to scale through.

Nigerian police has every right to stop and search citizens but in the process of searching, if they found anything incriminating, they should make an arrest and if it is otherwise, they should apologize and let the person continue his/her journey. This is contrary according to the Nigerian police code of conduct In the case of Professor Moyo Okediji in the hands of the Nigerian police attached to Festac, he was searched, nothing incriminating was found on him but his American and Nigerian passport, his identity card and some cash in dollars, yet Nigerian police are making arrest even after finding out his real identity, he’s an elderly man, a professor at that.

This is misconduct on the part of the Nigerian police and we at the Take It Back movement frown at it and also charge the newly appointed Lagos State commissioner of police CP Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade to fish out all culprit and be dealt with accordingly.

It is no longer news that police men attached to Festac are thorn in the flesh and are known for their corrupt and unprofessional act extorting innocent Nigerians. Nigerian police are meant to protect us and not to intimidate us. We have received several complaints on the shenanigans of Festac police and we urge the newly appointed commissioner of police to see to it and put an end to the daylight robbery.

We also urge and charge the police service commission and National Assembly to pass into bill a mandatory use of body cam to be worn by every serving Nigerian police, this will curb their excesses and also minimize their excessive use of force, illegal arrest and extortion.

Nigerians are no longer safe in the hands of those that are been paid to protect us.

Adekunle Adeyemi Taofeek

• PRESS STATEMENT!

WITHDRAWAL OF THE APPROVAL FOR AKURE TOWN HALL USE: ALLEGATION OF CONCEALMENT OF PURPOSE IS AN AFTERTHOUGHT, SPECULATIVE AND UNPATRIOTIC!

In a twist of event yesterday, the use of the Akure Town Hall for the event of a town hall meeting in the Ondo state capital, Akure, on Saturday, the 16th of December 2023, called by Omoyele Sowore, was unilaterally cancelled by the palace.

It will be recalled that Mr Omoyele Sowore called a town hall meeting for the Ondo state capital, Akure, on Saturday, the 16th of December 2023, to meet with the patriotic citizens of the state, his homestate, on the ways to navigate out of the state of political stalemate that the protracted illness and long absence from the state of the governor of the state, Mr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, had caused and the incidental power unrest between the State House of Assembly, the deputy governor, Mr Lucky Ayedatiwa and some members of the executive council presenting to be loyal to the ailing governor.

In his E-signed Press Statement yesterday, dated the 11th of December 2023, Mr
Adeyeye Michael, the Chief Press Secretary to the Deji of Akure, stated that “It is an established standard that, anyone or organizations requesting the usage of the hall or any community facilities for any activities must make full disclosure of the purpose of the usage. Without mincing words, the hall is made available for all activities including social events, religious activities, and political gatherings and rally amongst others. However, concealing the real motive for a gathering for which an approval for the usage of the hall is sought negates the standing rules for getting the facility approval.”

If the hall is made available for all activities, including political gatherings and rally, as stated by Mr Adeyeye, then what other motive had been discovered to have led to the discriminatory unilateral cancellation of the granted licence which was paid for without any opportunity to wait to hear from My Omoyele Sowore if the use is for any illegal purpose other than what Mr Adeyeye said the hall is available for, that is, “all activities including social events, religious activities, and political gatherings and rally amongst others”, in My Adeleye’s quoted words.

While the palace reserves the discretion to determine who is allowed to use the town hall for any legal purpose, cancelling a licence already given upon payment of the demanded fees for the use, on an allegation of securing the use through concealment of real purpose, is not just a breach of contract which is actionable and for which we shall press suit for redress, but also very discriminatory, as no credible reason or explanation had been adduced for the cancellation.

We challenge the palace to come out with full details of the concealment alleged by the palace and the disclosure the palace now discovered to be the concealed purpose for taking up of the hall, because the statement issued by Mr Michael Adeyeye, stated that the decision to rescind the approval of the town hall use was because the facility was allegedly booked under a ‘pretentious manner’ to conceal the real motive of the usage.

We are challenging the palace to disclose the "pretentious manner” or the false motive given and disclose the real motive it discovered and the source of its information, because the hall had not been used, let alone for any illegal purpose!

It should be noted that the statement from Mr Adeyeye hinted that the initial approval granted by Mr Sowore for the usage of the town hall, which necessitated the payment of a deposit of N100,000, was for a roundtable meeting of a coalition of civil societies rather than for a meeting point for any procession. This is self-contradictory and unfortunate, because the palace had said the hall is available for all activities including political gathering and even rallies. Now what has changed? How will the palace justify allegation of concealment of purpose now, when the hall had not been used for any other purpose than the meeting of coalition of civil societies? Or will the palace feign ignorance of the meaning of civil society coalitions?

The problems of governance vacuum in Ondo State affect all of us. And we own the state together. It is high time the palace faced the reality that Akure is a dual-character city and not just an indigenous kingdom but also state capital which by virtue of that belongs, in that capacity, to all Ondo State citizens. Omoyele Sowore is not just a a pro-democracy campaigner, but a political leader, a two-time presidential candidate in this country, leader of a registered political party, African Action Congress, with members who cut across the State and an indigene of Ondo State from Kiribo in Ese-Odo Local Giovernment Area of Ondo State. So what disentitles him from coming to the state capital to address his people on the constructive absence of governance in the state?

If the palace is afraid of a “procession” or a street protest, as unintentionally but tacitly revealed in Mr Adeleye’s Press Statement, the town hall was not booked for a procession or a street protest because a procession or street protest cannot take place inside a hall as there is a clear difference between a town hall meeting and a street protest because the town hall is not a street.

Dear comrades, and friends

For more than four years, comrade Omoyele Sowore has been held prisoner in Nigeria, unable to travel, visit his wife and children. Since this charade began in August, 2019, Sowore has been subjected to malicious prosecution, numerous persecutions, multiple arrests, detentions, and harassments.

Recall that on the 3rd of August, 2019, opposition leader, comrade Omoyele Sowore was arrested, and kept in solitary confinement for five months for standing up to misgovernance, and anti-people policies of the Buhari regime, and his political party, the All Progressives Congress.

He was subsequently released from solitary confinement on the 24th of December, 2019 after a global outcry, but kept under Abuja city arrest. Throughout his time under city arrest, Sowore has faced multiple arrests, harassments, and intimidation from the Nigerian state as he failed to compromise his unrepentant stance with the Nigerian people. With intensified advocacy, the regime freed him from Abuja city arrest in 2022 but kept him locked in Nigeria, unable to travel to see his family, wife, and children.

Upon the emergence of Tinubu after a very flawed election in 2023, he has chosen to follow after the lawlessness of former President Buhari with the continuation of the charade.

Since the sham trial began in 2019, two Federal High court judges have recused themselves from the case. With the third judge, Justice Emeke Nwite, the case has met nothing but stalemate. Like Buhari, Tinubu's administration is uninterested in prosecution, preferring to sustain the victimization, and malicious prosecution of Mr. Sowore.

As Sowore re-appears at the Federal High Court, Abuja on the 5th of December, we call on you, and all lovers of freedom to speak up, and demand the immediate end to the four years persecution of Mr. Omoyele Sowore.

Your In Solidarity!
