MONEY BEFORE MARRIAGE

Love does not pay bills, neither does beauty put food on the table. Marriage is a place of responsibilities and to be reliable, you need to be financially self-reliant.

Many get married through the help of family and friends without a tangible source of income. After wedding, they live from hand to mouth. People might cater for your wedding needs but they won't feed and pay your bills in marriage.

Having a source(s) of income before marriage is not just for men alone, a lady need to have too. Success in marriage is easier when both can pull their resources together.

There is no excuse for having no tangible source of income before marriage. Poverty can break a home faster than you think. Money, to some extent, adds to the success of the home.

Having a source of money is necessary before marriage. After marriage, there will be increasing financial responsibilities: for instance, you will nurture babies, pay school fees, pay rent etc. Therefore, establish yourself financially before marriage.

Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? 2 Corinthians 6:14

To start with, as a believer, you shouldn't think of marrying an unbeliever. Also, not all believers are fit for you. Doctrines vary among believers; hence it is advisable to marry someone that practices the same doctrine as you do to foster peace in your home.

Other big differences could be in the areas of culture, lifestyle, purpose, vision, career, mindset and even personality traits.

When there's a big difference, think twice before entering into the marital journey. Can you handle the outcome? If not, quit. Don't be too desperate to marry lest you regret it.

Marriage blossoms when the two parties work in unity and agreement (Amos 3:3).
Marry someone of like mind. Don't just marry because of attraction alone, rather marry someone that will help you fulfill God's purpose for your life.
