Cakes crack when the oven temperature is too high or when the pan is places wrongly.

In an oven that is too hot, the outside of the cake tends to cook faster than the inside.

You could also experience such if the recipe has too much leavener or if the pan used is too small.

You should also avoid opening and closing the oven when baking, as this can cause the temperature to fluctuate.

When baking, you should ensure your oven is at the right temperature and you should also use the appropriate sized pan.
