I see many parents live with their children as many other things but not parents and it’s sad they are clueless that this behaviour can affect them in future. I strongly believe that Parenting is a calling that needs preparation and constant learning to succeed, so don’t be like ‘yet another meeting again??’ It’s a lifetime assignment and You don’t have to go through this journey on your own. I WISH I KNEW BETTER THEN Here are 3 mistakes I made in the early years of Parenting my children 📌 Passing on my stress to my children. You know how children could innocently approach you for something and you react with a push back without listening to what they even want. This happened a lot especially on very busy days. Who else can relate? 📌 Lack of empathy. It was initially a struggle to see things from their perspective as children. Like I sometimes wanted them to act like adults forgetting that they were just kids 😅 📌 Trying to be a perfect parent whose goal was to raise a perfect child rather than focusing on sharpening their strengths and supporting them in their weaknesses. A sister shared over the weekend about how she was expecting her son to know something and she was actually upset until she heard the question in her spirit, “have you taught him”. As she shared I couldn’t help but think about how many times I have assumed that my children should know somethings and I get frustrated when they act like they don’t know.

The truth remains that we cannot require from them what we haven’t taught them. So before you start coming down on that child for not conforming to your expectations, please pause and ask yourself, “have I taught him/her?”

This week invest in teaching your children values, behavior, character, scriptures, discipline, that you would want to see in them. Be deliberate. For me I have decided to focus on emotions as the Lord helps me this week.

Let’s talk about discipline a little. I know a lot of us may be against spanking and all but this is scripture. We need to be intentional about discipline for our kids. Sometimes talking alone doesn’t do it, but we must exercise caution to ensure that we are not pouring our anger in our children in the name of discipline.

We as parents need to learn to be calm even when obviously your children have pushed you beyond limit. Discipline especially physical is always better, wiser and more productive when you are calm.

Please make this declaration over your children. We need our children to begin to develop a hunger for God so they can seek Him wholeheartedly. There are so many things fighting for their attention, so much fighting to gain control of their minds but we declare that they will seek God early and find Him in Jesus name.

This week our daughter goes back to school, starting the first grade, and we wanted to do a fun school-related project. I hope this image is an encouragement to all the parents and family members preparing for the upcoming school year!

Dear Parent, please encourage your child to have their own personal devotion or quiet time. Beyond the family devotion time children who are able to read on their own should have some time alone to read the Bible and pray. We will have to provide the materials they need to enhance their Bible study and monitor them to make sure they are consistent. This is a good time to help them cultivate this discipline.
