Adeb Foundation visited GOSMUS SCHOOLS, IBA today where we engaged the students on their attitude towards education and how far their attitude can take them in life irrespective of ther aptitude.

We left them with the quote of Zig Ziglar - "Your attitude not just aptitude will determine your altitude in life"

To make it in life does not end in going to school alone, our attitudes to education itself and the people around us also matters.

We are dedicated to making positive impact wherever we go. A little touch of impact here and there contributes to a saner society.

We appreciate the staff and Management of GSM school for the warm receptance.

Adeb Foundation for Impacting Youths engaged with the final year students of Topfield College, Ajegunle.

The students were taken on different topics ranging from life after school, the need to acquire skills relevant in this century, environmental Influence and how to be a positive agent of change, career selection, the need for volunteering, and community service.

We are passionate about creating positive change in young people, as part of our "Catch Them Young" Initiative, we will be engaging more with secondary and primary school pupils.

The change we desire begins from You and I.

We can not change the whole world at once but we can start from making a change from our immediate community.

It was a quality time spent with the pupils of My Dream Stead School, Ajegunle.

As part of our objectives to inspire young minds and 'catch them young', we engaged in an interactive session with the pupils which was very enlightening and lively for them as they were able to air out their minds while also having a paradigm shift and repositioning of mindset.

In the same vein, we advised the students not to allow their environment or background be a set back or limitation to them and also to be positive changemakers wherever they are and in whatever system they are in.

Adeb Foundation believes that every child is a leader who needs someone to discover them.

We are aimed at inspiring and impacting young lives positively.

Our focus for this year will be on institutional advocacy, to reach out to as many as we can.

If you like us to visit your school, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

ADEB FOUNDATION'S MESSAGE ON CHRISTMAS AND NEW YEAR

Even after an indeed eventful year filled with aberrant happenings comes Christmas and a happy New Year.

The Novel Corona Virus took the world by storm especially in year 2020 and is unfortunately again said to be back in what is called "the second wave" following a rise in the number of confirmed cases and deaths in the past few days. We, therefore, urge everyone to be conscious of the pandemic even amidst our Christmas and New Year Celebrations by adhering strictly to NCDC guidelines on Covid-19 such as: (i) wearing of masks in public places, (ii) maintaining social and physical distance, (iii) regular washing of hands, (iv) regular usage of hand sanitizers, (v) avoidance of crowded places, etc.

However, it is with utmost love that we celebrate with our Christian Brothers and Sisters as we celebrate the birth of Christ.

It is germane to note that the birth of Christ was a demonstration of God's love to mankind. We, accordingly, appeal to everyone, regardless of religious beliefs, to continue to spread love among one another so as to achieve our desired peace and progress, for with love, we can achieve anything and everything.

We felicitate with everyone on these joyous occasions of Christmas and New Year.

and

❤️

Meet EJEDEDAWE RACHAEL,
Wiinner of the 2020 Essay Competition for Girls

Below is her write-up:

"Creating a safe and better community is expected to be the aim of everyone, a community where we all can carry out our day-to-day activities without fear and a community safe enough to enable the betterment of its inhabitants. For years past, the male gender have been in the forefront of this goal, some females have stood out in the same quest, these females through their work for the community have proven beyond doubt that the girl child have her strengths and that these strengths when well used cannot but help in the general betterment of the community.

The Strengths of the girl child includes: Empathy, Diligence, good organization skills, lending voice to nation building and many more. Women like Oprah Winfreh, Maya Angeolu, Michelle Obama, Olufunmilayo Ransome Kuti, Efuronye Tinubu, Alakija, Patricia Etteh, Grace Alele Williams, Margaret Ekpo, Asisat Oshoala, Mosunmola Abudu, Agbani Darego and so on are clear and great examples of the display of these strengths.

How then can I as a girl effectively utilize my strengths into creating a safe and better community?

Firstly, the show of love, care, kindness and empathy which is more attributed to the female gender are the qualities of a humanitarian which is sorely needed for the enablement of a safe and better community.

Those who have contributed significantly to get the community to the stage it is in terms of development have made themselves humanitarians by casting away selfish gains and imbibing the act of collective goals. The love we show to one another can go a long way in making one another better and consequently making the community better.

Moreso, in order to help mankind, we should become volunteers for development projects. Volunteerism is one major aspect of humanitarianism and will enhance a safe and better community. As a girl, my strengths can be effectively utilized when I volunteer to join organizations of like minds whose sole aim is to contribute to the development of the community. For instance, as a girl who is passionate about mental health, joining an Organization that is concerned with mental health awareness will help in collectively ameliorating the risks of depression, psychological disorders, mental illness and su***de in the community, hence, contributing to the enablement of a safe and better community.

Furthermore, the girl child have over the years proven to be equally up to the task in pulling strings. So, the diligence of the girl child is a tool that can be well utilized for the betterment of the community. At homes, the girl child is made to perform many tasks even more than the boy child, not just perform many tasks but even performing the tasks better than the boy child. It has even been in one way or the other injected into our culture that girls perform more tasks at home, this in no way shows inferiority but professes the strength and diligence of the girl child. Little wonder Margaret Tchatcher said "If you want something said, ask a man; If you want something done, ask a woman".

Also, putting in use my good organization skills as a girl will help in bringing development to the community. It is known fact that the female gender is better at organizing and this is evident in how our mothers organize our homes. Margaret Tchatcher said "Any woman who understands the problems of running a home will be nearer to understanding the problems of running a country". As such, my organization skills can be utilized in every organization I find myself and I can even go beyond that by creating organizations which will be for the aim of making the community better.
In addendum, we all need to lend our voice to the cause of nation and community building and being gender of more quantity, we must voice out our needs at every necessary time because as a girl, it is my voice, our equal future.

I want to be like Wadi Ben-Hirki who founded the Wadi Ben Hirki foundation at 17 years old and has been Impacting marginalized and disadvantaged communities through humanitarianism and activism. I want to be like Funmi Falana, a women's rights activist who defending the rights of women and children. I want to be like Miss Zoffun who has through her Foundation been impacting youths. I am a girl and I want to effectively utilize my strength into creating a safe and better community."

Meet AKANBI-BADRU AFOPEFOLORUN,
1st Runner Up of the 2020 Essay Writing for Girls

Below is her Write-Up:

Being a girl child is wonderful but with it comes the age long stereotype of growing into a man’s wife and also the world’s and personal expectations of growing into a world leader especially with the presence of education which has proven to be the very effective tool for both academic and mental transformation of all humans.

With the emergence of civilization, I have come to understand that I have great potentials, multiple opportunities and numerous responsibilities. As a girl, who is privileged to be a recipient of education, I am opportuned to learn all I can to be an effective game changer. Starting from the initial stages of education which are the primary and secondary education. Developing my skills and contesting in leadership positions in the school is a very vital way to grow into an enviable leader while ensuring that I uphold core values when elected into Various positions like humility, honesty, discipline, and empathy to mention but a few. It is important that as a girl child, while paying adequate attention to studying, the aspects of personal growth is not neglected. Quoting the words of the world renowned leadership experts; John Maxwell “Everything starts and ends on good leadership”. It is my believe that while actively engaging in these positions, my core strengths can be revealed and improving on these strengths would further increase my productivity in serving and effecting positive changes in my immediate environment.

Progressing, these previous invaluable experiences would help even in the tertiary educational system and other facets of the economy. In creating a safe and better community, I believe the onus of it all is intentionally focusing on personal growth and developing my people skills most importantly communication skills which is vital in influencing people. Leading by example to others and not being hypocritical. Whatever good values I admonish others to imbibe must first be portrayed by me.

As it is known by all and sundry that a girl would surely grow into a woman. The period of being a girl intentional about creating a safe and better community is the solid foundation for emerging a great woman. An example of a woman who had shown great potential and developed her skills right from childhood is Michelle Obama. A lawyer, writer, orator and the first black American first lady of the United States of America. As a child, she learnt to be conscious of her environment and continuously strove to create a safe and better community. The skills she had previously acquired as a child, helped her maximize her strengths when greater responsibilities arose.

In conclusion, as a girl child the responsibility is huge and it is important that we continually make ourselves better humans, positively influence our community and fulfil our future responsibility of being good role models to our children who would however take up the mantle of continuing the good work of improving the community for the greater good.

Below is her write-up

EFFECTIVELY UTILIZING MY STRENGTH AS A GIRL INTO CREATING A SAFE AND BETTER COMMUNITY.

Two years ago, I hated myself all because I'm a girl child. I thought males were the superior as that was what we were made to believe growing up in an African family. I even thought that the sole importance of a female was to get married and have babies . We were taught in predetermined norms that moulds us into "wives and mothers" regardless of the dreams we had for ourselves. I grew up in the North were child marriages are rampant. I remember on my fourteenth birthday when Aunty Khadija came into my room and I overheard her telling my mother that I was now "ripe for marriage". I was filled with fears because I knew what happened to girls my age that have been married off. Would I still become a doctor if I were a wife to a man twice my father's age with two kids at 16? Would I even be able to take the national exams?, I asked myself countless times. Maami and I reached a decision and we fled the city. Today, I'm a senior secondary school year two student preparing to write my final exams.

Using my experience as a motivation, I have pledged to put an end to child marriages which is rampant in rural African areas. As a female , there is more to life than cooking in a man's house, warming his bed and bearing children. A female child can be anything and everything she aspires and works towards if given the chance. I have started making positive changes starting from my immediate community. I'm a volunteer at various non-governmental organizations who help empower and orientate the female folks on how we all can make something big out of ourselves using our God's given strength. I now have conversations with women on the streets , markets , homes etc on how they can combine their marital responsibles with their dreams and goals.

I'm a girl!. I wasn't born by mistake and I'm not less important . I'm as important as a male child is. I am strong , filled with virtue and gifts which would help develop my community and country as a whole. You are too, we should get up and all make changes because I believe that if more women become doctors, lawyers , engineers, etc , the country would develop not only economical but also mentally as more people would be relieved of depression.
