5 REASONS YOU SHOULD VISIT BENIN REPUBLIC FOR HOLIDAY
Benin Republic is next neighbour country to Nigeria on the Coastal line. From Badagry in Lagos State, Cotonou which is the economic capital of Benin is just about 60 kilometers by road and one and half hour drive.
Here are 5 reasons you need to visit the Francophone country which largely shares socio-cultural similarities with the South West part of Nigeria:
1. Unbelievable Monuments: There are amazing monuments to see in Cotonou, my favourite being ‘MONUMENT AMAZONE’ that stands 30 meters tall. If you have seen the movie ‘Woman King’, this magnificent statue tells the story when you visit.
2. Diverse Cultural Experience: Benin Republic is also multi-ethnic, thereby showcasing various cultural and historical values related to the black race, including relics of the slave trade experience. However, the post colonial cultural place of Benin can be said to be amazing.
3. Impressive Border Experience: Land borders of Benin Republic are very peaceful and not porous. They are safe and you are never treated like a foreigner. Entrant to Benin Republic is seamless with its friendly immigration passage and border communities.
4. Incredible Night Life: The city is well illuminated and the night life is very exciting. There are various places to enjoy the evening; it is considerably safe as foreigners are seeing moving around day and night without security assistance.
5. Ease the Stress: If you are looking for a place to unwind after work-related stress, I strongly recommend you take a trip to Benin Republic to feel the conducive city life of Cotonou and unbeatable ambiance of Ouidah.

KYLIAN MBAPPE: MORE AFRICANS RECONNECTING WITH THEIR ROOTS
The French striker Kylian Mbappe visited his African home in Cameroon to make a statement of identity.
Kylian's father Wilfried Mbappé left Cameroon at a young age to France, where he became a football trainer.
Mbappe’s trip to the central African nation came amidst more Africans identifying with their roots. Blood, they say, is thicker than water. Everyone has got a root and history.
According to Manga Alfred,"Kylian Mbappe had to go back to the land of his ancestors. You know, every tree has roots, and at some point you have to return to your roots. So I think it was time and it's an auspicious moment for him to find himself at home. And I think that, without speculating, a lot will happen in his life after that”.
Back home, Mbappe was welcomed as a super star; he was commended for not forgetting his DNA. Every man in a dark skin originated from the sub-Sahara Africa. It is interesting to note that many more African-Americans are identifying with their roots lately, tracing their roots and planning final return to live in the only place where they will continue to remain as first class citizens.
SightAfrik will feature more Diaspora black people identifying with Africa and serve you documentaries of their return journey to where they truly belong!
