Vice President's Noble Contribution; Advancing Healthcare in Maiduguri
By Comr Mahmud Muhammad, Personal Assistant on Domestic (Northeast) to the President, office of the Vice President.
In an exemplary demonstration of dedication to public service, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, the Vice President of Nigeria, has erected a beacon of hope within the heart of Maiduguri's populace by building a magnificent hospital in the state.
The newly constructed and commissioned hospital stands as a towering testament to Your Excellency’s steadfast commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility for all residents. Situated within the Lawan Bukar Area, Lamisula ward, Maiduguri, this impressive structure not only signifies progress but also functions as a vital resource for the community, offering comprehensive maternal services and essential medications for kidney diseases, the hospital embodies principles of compassion and care, extending its healing reach to those in need, irrespective of financial constraints.
Under the visionary stewardship of the Vice President, a mere concept has been transformed into a tangible reality, effectively addressing gaps in healthcare provision and ensuring equitable access for all. Your Excellency’s tireless endeavors have not only enriched the lives of numerous individuals but also set a precedent for leadership nationwide.
As the hospital's doors open to welcome patients from near and far, it heralds a new era of healthcare excellence and inclusivity. This noble initiative not only transforms lives but also conveys a profound message of hope, resilience, and unity.
The hospital boasts a fully equipped pharmacy, featuring a wide range of medications including antihypertensives, antidiabetics, antenatal drugs, and notably, post-kidney transplant medications. These essential medications will be provided free of charge to residents within the metropolis. Previously, post-transplant patients incurred monthly expenses of no less than 400-500 thousand solely on medication. This initiative will significantly mitigate the hardships faced by the members of the community.
In acknowledgment of His Excellency’s unparalleled dedication to public welfare, on behalf of the good people of the Maiduguri Metropolis, I extend my deepest gratitude to the Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, whose legacy of compassion will continue to inspire future generations and Dr. Umar Loskurima, the Chief Personal Physician to the Vice President, who oversaw everything about the Maternal centre and managing it upto this moment. With the spotlight shining on this remarkable achievement, it is an honor to highlight this beacon of hope, illuminating the path toward a healthier and more equitable future for all."

His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, was joined by Vice President Kashim Shettima for Iftar with traditional and religious leaders at the State House Banquet Hall today.
: “Something urgent needs to be done about this. I call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to approve the payment of the extra fee as directed by NAHCON.
This is the right thing to do in order to save the situation.
“I am also calling on States pilgrims coming from to subsidise the fees of pilgrims, especially first timers.
Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and it is unfair to deny first timers the right to perform this spiritual exercise, especially after they have already paid the old fee set by NAHCON.
“I do not think it is fair to ask them to pay almost N2 million again. Many of the pilgrims saved up the money for many years to enable them to participate in Hajj.
You cannot deny such people the right to participate,” Sen. Muhammad Ali Ndume said.

Zulum noted that with peace gradually returning to Borno, the state is committed to harnessing all avenues that will bring development.
“We spoke about the Lake Chad Basin. Now that we are having relative peace in Borno State, there is a need for the government to ensure the re-establishment of the South Chad irrigation project," Zulum said.

“I spoke with Mr. President and he assured me to look into establishing a solid security outfit in the Lake Chad Basin so that people can access the agricultural lands," Zulum said.
The governor added, “The South Chad irrigation project has tremendous potential to produce food to cater for the needs of the entire northern Nigeria or I can say even the whole country. But, due to insecurity in the region, the irrigation scheme has not been functioning very well for a decade or more."
“So, I think this is very important information now that the country is working towards ensuring food security, both in quantity and quality.
