Meet the Vice-Chancellor

‘Niran Adetoro is Professor of Social Informatics and currently the Vice-Chancellor Gerar University of Medical Sciences, Imope-Ijebu in Ogun State Nigeria, He is a researcher, University teacher and Administrator and was Director of Research and Director of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance (DAPQA) at Tai Solarin University of Education, (TASUED), Nigeria. Prof Adetoro has work experience spanning over 37 years in the tertiary education sector. He was pioneer Head, Department of Library and Information Science, TASUED. Prof Adetoro holds a PhD in Library and Information Science from the University of Ibadan. He also holds a Post-graduate Diploma in Computer and Information Science. He is an Associate Member of Chattered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP), UK, member National Association of Library and Information Science Educators (NALISE) and member Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T) USA. He was visiting Professor at the Department of Library, Archival and Information Studies, University of Ibadan in 2016. He has co-ordinated TASUED trainings in technology integration into Education and he was the chair of the management board of the Edtech Centre of Excellence, (edtechcoe.com) TASUED. Professor Adetoro has published extensively in local and international research outlets. He has served as member of National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation and Resource evaluation teams to several Nigerian Universities and as undergraduate and post graduate external examiner to notable Nigerian Universities. He is a member of the Editorial boards of at least four Local LIS journals and reviewer to journals locally and abroad including highly ranked SAGE and Elsevier Journals. He was the immediate past Editor In Chief of Gateway Information Journal. He has attended and delivered papers at conferences in Nigeria and overseas. Professor Adetoro is an Intel Inc (USA) trained facilitator of Technology Integration into Teaching and Learning. He has consulted for organisations such as NOUN, UBEC/SUBEB and FADAMA (GUYS) project, and a recipient of research grants and awards. He has served as resource person at strategic workshops/ trainings for Academics, Librarians and Teachers in Nigeria. His research interest is in Social informatics, specifically Information Technology and Use by different user groups, Psychology of Information use and Information Services to the Visually Impaired. Recently he has widened his focus to scholarly communication and health informatics. He is happily married with children.
