The abductors of the wife, Mrs Abigail Orbunde and housemaid, Patience Ogute, of Terwase Orbunde, a former Chief of Staff to the immediate past governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, have demanded N100m ransom.

A close ally of Orbunde, Tahav Argezua, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

Orbunde, alongside his wife and the housemaid, was attacked when they had gone to inspect his farm located close to the Genocide Cemetery along Mobile Barracks-Welfare Quarters Road in Makurdi, the state capital at about 6 pm on Friday.

Argezua said, “The abductors of wife and cook of former Chief of Staff to the Benue State Governor, Terwase Orbunde, yesterday evening have demanded N100m ransom for their release.”

Suspected O’odua Nation agitators launched an attack on the Oyo State Secretariat in Ibadan over the weekend, attempting to overrun security operatives stationed at the State Assembly complex and the entire secretariat.

Dressed in military camouflage and armed with weapons, the agitators raised their own flag within the Assembly premises, prompting security personnel to call for backup to address the threat.

A response team comprising the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Amotekun Corps, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) swiftly converged on the scene to restore order, engaging the agitators in sporadic gunfire.

Eyewitnesses recounted how the agitators arrived in an ash-colored Hiace bus and two motorcycles, which were later seized and taken to the State Police Headquarters.

The gunmen, after replacing the Nigerian national flag with the O’odua Nation flag at the State House of Assembly premises, were met with resistance from security forces, resulting in several arrests and pursuit of fleeing suspects into nearby bushes and forests.

Although the situation has been brought under control, with security personnel stationed at the secretariat gate to ensure safety, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, the Special Adviser to Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Security, urged calm, describing the gunmen as "miscreants" and assuring the public that everything is under control. Adewale Osifeso, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, confirmed the incident and is gathering further details.
