We are thrilled to announce that we have started the deployment of our digital innovations (HelpMum vaccination tracker, HelpMum chatbot and HelpMum ADVISER) in Jigawa state.
Routine child immunization is vital for preventing mortality from diseases like meningitis. In 2023, it was reported that at least 65 children died due to the complications from meningitis and most survivors are facing severe complications from meningitis. Despite efforts to boost vaccination rates, challenges persist due to factors like inadequate awareness, misinformation, difficulty accessing healthcare, and socioeconomic barriers.
Addressing these challenges necessitates a multifaceted approach, targeted at providing access to innovations like the HelpMum Vaccination Tracker, HelpMum Chatbot, and the HelpMum ADVISER
that provides access to quality childhood vaccine information that helps to dispel the myths and misconceptions about vaccines, and strengthening of the states healthcare system which would help nursing mothers and caregivers overcome barriers and prioritize their children's immunization.

In regions with limited access to healthcare, childbirth often occurs at home or in the homes of community birth attendants, where hygiene standards may be inadequate, leading to a higher incidence of infection among newborns and mothers. This poses serious risks to both mothers and infants and contributes to elevated mortality and morbidity rates. Our initiative, the HelpMum Clean Birth Kit, addresses this pressing issue by providing essential tools for maintaining a sterile birthing environment. By utilizing our kits, mothers and birth attendants can significantly reduce the likelihood of infection during childbirth. These kits not only ensure hygienic practices, but also promote safer delivery methods, ultimately enhancing maternal and neonatal health outcomes in underserved communities.
The HelpMum team in partnership with visited Total Garden Garden, Yemetu in Ibadan, Oyo State, to distribute the HelpMum clean birth kits to pregnant women in the community. During our visit, we explained how valuable each item in the kit is, and we took down information about their due dates so that they could be monitored and have their babies registered on our vaccination tracking system when they were born.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Raji, expressed her sincere gratitude to the team, sharing that in the past, she had faced considerable anxiety about the cleanliness and safety of the different child-birthing environments and practices she had seen or witnessed in her community. With the HelpMum Clean Birth Kit, she now feels more confident and secure about her future delivery. Through our efforts,we believe that we are making strides towards reducing childbirth-related infections and promoting better health outcomes for mothers and newborns in community.
Achieving high childhood immunization coverage remains a significant challenge in Nigeria, with childhood immunization rates consistently falling short of desired targets. Despite efforts to improve access to vaccines and healthcare services, various factors contribute to the persistently low rates, such as limited healthcare services, busy schedules of mothers, financial constraints, gaps in healthcare infrastructure, and so much more. The HelpMum ADVISER is an innovative AI solution that addresses these various challenges by utilizing data and targeted interventions (vaccination drive, phone calls/ reminder SMS, travel voucher, and bus pickup and drop-off). By analyzing demographic and geographic data, the HelpMum ADVISER identifies areas with low vaccination coverage and tailors its efforts to ensure children get the vaccines they need and also strengthens the healthcare system.
For the deployment of the HelpMum ADVISER, we administered vaccines (vaccination at home) to children in 14 communities. During our outing today, we spoke to Mrs. Jadubem, who shared with our team that she has not been able to take her child for his immunization due to the lack of financial resources and her busy schedule to ensure she makes ends meet. She expressed gratitude to HelpMum for making it convenient for her to ensure her child receives the necessary vaccines.
The deployment of the HelpMum ADVISER represents a holistic approach to addressing the complex challenges surrounding childhood immunization in Nigeria. By leveraging AI technology and targeted interventions, we aim to bridge the gap in vaccination coverage, strengthen healthcare systems, and ultimately improve health outcomes for children across the country.

Vaccines represent a significant milestone in global health and progress, saving millions of lives annually. They function by leveraging the body's immune system to create defenses against diseases, thereby reducing the likelihood of infection. Each year, immunization prevents 3.5-5 million deaths from ailments like diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, influenza, and measles. However, despite the immense benefits of vaccines, some parents may overlook their child's vaccination appointments for several reasons. These include a lack of understanding regarding the significance of vaccinations, misinformation regarding vaccine safety, or difficulties in accessing healthcare services.

Infection is a leading cause of maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality,6–10 responsible for an estimated 10.7% of all maternal and 44% of all newborn deaths globally each year. In rural communities in Nigeria, over half of all deliveries occur without the assistance of skilled birth attendants. This is attributed to the limited resources available to certain women, preventing them from obtaining necessary delivery items or accessing medical health facilities.
To mitigate these risks, we developed a meticulously crafted a solution known as the HelpMum clean birth kit. This kit comprises of vital tools and materials designed to establish a hygienic and secure delivery environment, thereby addressing the challenges associated with childbirth-related infections. This week, the HelpMum team, in collaboration with the visited Kudeti community in Oyo state to distribute the HelpMum clean birth kit to pregnant women in the community.

Language barriers pose a significant obstacle for nursing mothers seeking access to essential vaccination information. This includes details about the benefits, potential side effects, and post-vaccination care for their young ones. When mothers cannot access this vital information due to language barriers, it can foster misconceptions or fears regarding vaccines. Consequently, this may lead to avoidance or reluctance on the part of mothers to vaccinate their children.
The HelpMum Vaccination Tracker empowers thousands of nursing mothers by providing them with the tools to monitor their children's immunization schedules, thus helping to prevent vaccine-related diseases. The HelpMum Vaccination Tracker is now available in three additional languages (Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa), and the decision to add these languages is driven by our commitment to overcoming language barriers and ensuring accessibility for all Nigerian mothers, regardless of their location.

To prevent these complications, skilled birth attendance is a crucial component of providing quality maternal care. This involves the presence of a skilled health worker during childbirth to provide appropriate medical interventions and ensure a safe delivery.
The HelpMum E-learning Platform is a platform created to empower Community birth attendants with digital tools needed to carry out safe and hygienic deliveries and also improve vaccine uptake in their communities. The digital tool contains our HelpMum vaccination tracker and pre-recorded training videos on essential topics such as providing parenteral medications, carrying out procedures (i.e., manual removal of the placenta and forceps/vacuum deliveries) using safe and hygienic methods, and many more. Childhood vaccination programs serve as pillars of public health, which is crucial in preventing the spread of infectious diseases and decreasing global morbidity and mortality rates. For these programs to achieve their intended impact, it is essential that vaccines are administered to the right child in a timely manner. However, the success of vaccination programs depends not only on vaccine availability but also on the effectiveness of delivery mechanisms, and this would involve creating innovative solutions to ensure the accessibility of vaccines and resources necessary to encourage compliance among nursing mothers in taking their children for their immunization.
With the assistance of our AI innovation, ADVISER, we have been able to tackle the different obstacles encountered by nursing mothers in rural communities. With ADVISER, we are able to successfully identify and address the unique challenges arising from limited access to healthcare and resources. By leveraging data-driven insights, we have been able to tailor our interventions (vaccination drive, phone calls/ reminder SMS, travel voucher, and bus pickup and drop-off) effectively to help nursing mothers, resulting in a remarkable increase in vaccination coverage within these underserved areas.
Today, we administered vaccines (vaccination at home) to children in 21 communities for the deployment of HelpMum ADVISER. During our outing today, we spoke to Mrs. Lateef, who shared with our team that she has not been able to take her child for his immunization due to lack of financial resources.
