Judgement Day: Tension as Presidential Election Tribunal prepares to deliver verdict.
The long-awaited judgement day is here. There is tension, anxiety across Nigeria.
Newsmen reports that hours after the Presidency issued a statement, on Sunday, September 3, to disclose that President Bola Tinubu will be travelling to New Delhi, India, for the G-20 Summit, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, PEPT, finally announced that it had set a date to deliver judgement in petitions filed against the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.
The PEPT said the judgement delivery would be televised live.
Tinubu will not be in the country when the tribunal decides whether to affirm his victory, or nullify it, as requested by Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, and the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, who filed separate petitions to challenge the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, after the February 25 presidential poll.
It could be a coincidence that the tribunal fixed the judgement on a date the President would be away from the country but Nigerians are waiting with bated breath for the Justice Haruna Tsammani-led panel to deliver its verdict.
Presidential Tribunal: How to watch PEPT judgement live
The much-anticipated judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPT) is set to be delivered today....

PORT HARCOURT RING ROAD WILL CONNECT OUR PEOPLE - GOV. FUBARA
..As Wike flags-off Port Harcourt Ring Road project
..Gov Fubara Promises to pay compensation to affected communities
Rivers State Governor, His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara has said that the inherent individual differences occasioned by the diverse ethnic groupings notwithstanding, the Port Harcourt Ring Road will serve as a bold effort taken in connecting Rivers people together and fostering greater unity among them.
Governor Fubara made this known at the UTC Junction in Port Harcourt Local Government Area, venue of the flag-off of the Ring Road project. Pointing out that other previous administrations have attempted to execute the project but could not, he commended the immediate past governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for initiating the New Rivers Vision that is serving as the building template to the radical development of the State as being consolidated by his administration.
According to him: "Today, we are here to put mortar to brick to that contract signing. Some of you had doubts when we signed the contract whether we will start it. But we did not just sign it, we have paid for it and we are here to commence the job. The importance of this road is not just connecting Eleme to Etche, Etche to Ikwerre local government areas but connecting our people."
Governor Fubara, who emphasized that there is no meaningful development without road accessibility, urged the various communities that the project will traverse to cooperate with the contractor without sabotaging it. He assured them of timely payment of determined compensations.
Immediate past governor of Rivers State, Chief Barr. Nyesom Wike, who performed the flag-off, recalled how the administration he served as Chief-of-Staff, had set money aside but could not muster the political will as demonstrated by Fubara's government to Kick-start the Port Harcourt Ring Road project barely weeks after assuming office.

TRIBUNAL: INEC Provides Document To Counter Allegation Of āDouble Nominationā Against VP Shettima
At the Presidential Election Petitions Court sitting in Abuja, counsel for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Oluwakemi Pinheiro, SAN, presented one of the commissionās staff members, John Arabs, as a witness.
The witness submitted in evidence letters and forms indicating that Vice President Kashim Shettima withdrew from the 2023 Senatorial race before he was nominated as President Bola Tinubuās running mate.
Tinubuās counsel, Wole Olanipekun, aligned with INEC and urged the court to declare that Shettima violated no electoral law contrary to the Allied Peoples Movementās claim that Shettima engaged in double nomination against provisions of the Electoral Act 2022.
The panel led by Justice Haruna Tsammani fixed July 14 for partiesā adoption of their final written address after the petitioner tendered a sole witness on Wednesday to testify against the nomination of Vice President Kashim Shettima by President Bola Tinubu.
The final written address paves way for judgement in APMās petition.
THE WHISTLER reports that the APM in its petition alleged that Shettima was still the All Progressives Congress Senatorial District candidate for Borno South when he accepted to be the running mate to Tinubu.
The case has been adjourned about three times since June 2 over partiesā inability to access certified true copies of a Supreme Court judgement that touched on Tinubuās nomination of Shettima.
But when the court judgement was eventually accessed by parties, APM through another lawyer, G.A. Idiagoya, told the five-man panel of the apex court that the verdict did not touch the substance of their case against Shettima, saying āwe are of the opinion that we can still proceed with our petition.ā
At the resumed date of hearing on Wednesday, APMās sole witness, Aisha Abubakar entered the witness box and adopted her.
BREAKING: Atiku, PDP Present Tinubuās academic records, Guinea passport, others at tribunal
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Atiku Abubakar submitted what they claimed to be President Bola Tinubuās academic transcripts and personal information before the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) on Friday.
One of their subpoenaed witnesses, Mike Enahoro-Ebah, who claimed to be a lawyer and human rights activist, submitted the documents on behalf of Atiku and the PDP, who are contesting Tinubuās victory in the most recent presidential election.
Enahoro-Ebah was persuaded to adopt his written deposition, which was submitted on June 20 and in which he made reference to the papers, by petitionersā attorney Chris Uche (SAN).
The witness claimed that his attorney in the United States helped him obtain the documents.
The documents tendered included: Tinubuās Form EC9 (affidavit in support of personal particulars); what they described as a certificate from the Chicago State University; NYSC discharge certificate (which the witness said contained the name: Adekunle); a party membership card, and a certificate of service from Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc.
Also tendered were what the witness described as the academic records of Tinubu from the Chicago State University; what he referred to as the actual certificate issued by the university; application for admission allegedly made by Tinubu in 1977; a transcript for admission from the South West College, in which the witness claimed Tinubu was referred to in the female gender.
The petitioners also tendered, through Enahoro-Ebah, a document they refered to as a notorized judgment of a United States District Court and a print out if a Guinean passport, which the witness claimed belonged to Tinubu.
The respondents ā the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Tinubu and the APC ā objected to the admissibility of the documents in evidence and promised to adduce their reasons at the point of filing their final written addresses.
The court however admitted the documents and marked them accordingly.
At the conclusion of his evidence-in-chief, INECās lawyer, Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN) cross examined Enahoro-Ebah, during which the witness admitted that he is unhappy that his candidate lost the presidential election.
He claimed that his investigation of Tinubuās background was not influenced from any quarter and that his lawyer in the US helped him to obtain the documents from the Chicago State University free of charge.
The court has stood down proceedings till 3pm for lawyers to Tinubu and the APC to cross examine the witness.
