RSG APPROVES N225.IBN TRANS-KALABARI ROAD CONTRACT AWARD

•To Fund Project With Savings

Rivers State Executive Council has approved the award of contract for the construction of the main Trans-Kalabari Road project at the cost of N225.1billion.

The approval was given during its meeting, presided over by Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and attended by the Deputy Governor, Prof Ngozi Odu, and other members of Council at Government House on Wednesday.

Briefing newsmen after the Council meeting, the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Warisenibo Joseph Johnson, said the project will be funded with savings from the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and allocations from FAAC.

Hon Johnson stated that 30 percent mobilisation fee has already been paid for the project that has a completion period of 32 months, adding that the contractor is expected to move men and materials to site immediately.

He said, "We have awarded contract to the tune of N225,114,563,830.02 kobo only for the commencement of the Trans-Kalabari Road. This is the main Trans-Kalabari Road. The one that had happened in the past, was building of bridges.

"But here, we are doing a Trans-Kalabari Road that is going to run from NSS Pathfinder immediately after Mgbuodohia Community, and extends to about 2 KM to the Aker Base Road in Rumuolumeni Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

He also said: "That road will pass through the swamps behind the Ignatius Ajuru University of Education in Rumuolumeni, moving southwards towards the first bridge crossing. The road continues through a series of bridges. That road will run, connecting many communities up to Tombia Town.

"That project will be completed in 32 months, and we are paying from our Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and Federal allocations. We are not going to be borrowing money for that project.

"That is about the third phase of us generating fund internally for our road projects without going to anywhere to borro

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, revealed that the Rivers State government is heavily under debt burden as contractors of already commissioned projects by the immediate past administration were still owed huge sums of money.

Governor Fubara made this revelation at the commissioning of the 10.98 kilometers Aleto-Ogale-Ebubu-Eteo road in Eleme LGA on Tuesday.

Here is a letter sent to the Rivers State Government by one of the contractor, Hado Nigeria Limined being owed outstanding debt of N467,073,921 by the previous administration

TIMAYA AND SKY B'S ALBUMS WERE MARKETED TOGETHER

I saw the discovery video made by Lucky Udu on the current living condition of singer SKY B and I was deeply touched. Many didn't know that SKY B and Timaya albums were pushed together same time into the Market by DANCO MUSIC who was a rice seller but was motivated into music marketing by the talents of TIMAYA and SKY B who were the raves of the moment from the South-South.

The singles of SKY B; PRAY FOR ME, I AM CALLING and that of TIMAYA; DEM MAMA, CALL ME TIMAYA amongst others were street and club bangers then.

As a music critic and analyst then, I discovered that where SKY B initially failed was the rush of his music videos which fell below expectations considering the hit of the songs. TIMAYA was very smart, he delayed the shoot of his own music videos and later came out with classy videos which complimented his hit songs. TIMAYA further moved to Lagos and expanded collaborations with further song productions from Oba K-Solo apart from Chiredu.

Timaya used the Lagos Advantage which is always recommended to creatives but SKY B stayed back. After struggling secretly, he pulled a death stunt and was later discovered to be alive and nothing was heard from him till this current video.

I wish him a great come back even if not into the currently highly competitive Nigerian music scene but to enjoy the benefits of his hit songs on all platforms to enjoy a better life.

Earlier today, the Rivers State House Of Assembly screened and confirmed, Dagogo Israel Iboroma, SAN as Commissioner to serve in the State Executive Council

The House led by the Speaker Rt. Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo screened and confirmed Dagogo Israel Iboroma at the Chambers inside Rivers State Government House, Port Harcourt.

According to source, he has also been sworn in by Governor Fubara as the Attorney General and Commisioner for Justice.

Your first salary is for your father, not pastor, says Kanayo

Veteran Nollywood star Kanayo O. Kanayo, who recently celebrated his son Clinton Mbaise's entry into the filmmaking world, opted to respect African customs. He accepted his initial earnings from his on-set work and bestowed his fatherly blessings on him.

Recall that the actor earlier announced Clinton to members of Simpliciter Associates Productions, his production company, on a movie set, announcing he would work as an assistant production manager and personal assistant to him.

In the video shared on Kanayo's Instagram account on Thursday, he requested his son's first salary as a Nollywood production manager assistant and also advised people to seek blessings from their fathers with their first salary rather than from their pastors.

However, he added that the amount of money a parent may recover from their child varies depending on the individual. Kanayo also emphasised that only a father can bless his child.

He said, "I want to observe a culture from our ancestors which has led to the progress of many people you see today, ''Father blessing.'

"Clinton my son just concluded a few production management with us and he has earned his first salary, his first salary is N50,000 for a movie.

"Clinton from your pocket in the N50,000 give me N500.

"The first salary of a young man, he goes to his father to say Nnayi my salary is N50,000, the father may decide to take the entire money, he may also decide to take any amount and his father will now bless him.

"The idea of his father asking him to know the salary is, so his father would teach him financial management.

"All you going to pastors to give your salary, you are wasting your time, is not part of our culture."

"I spoke with the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja on Monday, 6th of May, and as at today, 8 of May, 2024, the Military have withdrawn from Okuama.

"With this development, the people of Okuama can now safely return to their homes and begin the process of reintegration and rebuilding their homes." the Governor said.

Rivers State youths have declared their unwavering support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the welfare of the state. This resolute stance was articulated during a press briefing led by Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter.

Amb. Ihunwo highlighted the youths' determination to shield Governor Fubara from unwarranted criticism and insinuations, particularly from Tony Okocha, the factional chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He urged Okocha to redirect his efforts towards fulfilling his duties as the NDDC representative, questioning the efficacy of his tenure despite substantial allocations.

Warning of potential repercussions. Amb. Ihunwo cautioned Okocha against further attacks on the governor's office, threatening to organize protests in Abuja should such actions persist. He also called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and curb Okocha's inflammatory rhetoric, which he argued posed a threat to the peace of Rivers State.

Furthermore, Amb. Ihunwo reaffirmed the readiness of Rivers youths to thwart any attempts at impeaching Governor Fubara by lawmakers whose seats have been declared vacant in accordance with constitutional provisions.

Amb. Ihunwo also criticized Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen for using the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) platform to level baseless accusations against the governor's administration. Expressing bewilderment at their sudden activism, he questioned their silence during the previous administration and issued a stern ultimatum, announcing their impending removal from office on June 18th, 2024
