Learn about these three mistakes people make when trying to do so.

About three week ago, I was nearly becoming overweight and out of shape. It felt horrible whenever I looked at myself in the mirror, I would see myself with sagging breasts, so much belly fat it began to sag, fats let and right, my clothes were no longer sizing me and I even tore some while trying to wear them. In short I was a total mess. I wasn't even sure my babe would still find me attractive, my love life was about to become dramatic and my self-esteem went down the drain. It's all in the past now and I don't want anyone to ever feel the same. Back then, I became interested in weight loss so I started reading about it day and night. I learnt from a couple of experts and I will be sharing some of the things I learnt with you in this post and also things I learnt by experience.

If you're a first time reader, welcome and thank you for deciding to read my post.

In this post I'll be sharing 3 major mistakes that were responsible for my gaining extra weight after a weight loss program I tried back then.

Quickfix mindset: One may not realize this, but if one sees any weight loss program as a quick fix solution rather than a long term investment towards solving one's weight problem, one will continue to regain weight. The reason is because the quickfix mindset will prevent one from putting the required efforts to sustain a lifestyle that encourages one's desired body weight. One just wants to get it done and over with. When in actual fact, one did not become overweight in a short period of time, one became overweight over a long time and for as long as one continues to eat, one stands the chance of becoming overweight. So why not make a long term commitment towards solving your weight problems forever. This quickfix mindset also makes it very easy for one to give up on one's weight loss journey when the going gets tough.

Unsustainable habits: Yes! This is also another major problem “unsustainable habits”. The fundamentals of one's weightloss journey should be embedded in your habits and habits are not things that are built within a short period of time. This is more reason why you should eradicate the quick fix mindset. One should take time to weave successful weight loss and maintenance habits into one's life. Rely more on building habits rather than using will power because when one becomes stressed during one's weight loss journey (and the time will definitely come), that stress will deplete one's willpower and cause you to return to your ingrained “weight gaining habits”. Stress as a contributing factor to excessive weight gain is a topic on its own, we’d probably talk about it some other time. Understand that there has to be a change in lifestyle if one is going to lose weight and maintain it. Be willing to accommodate that change and grow with it. I’d recommend anyone to read “Atomic Habits” by James Clear to help you build good habits and break bad ones.

Poor diet: One's weight loss routine might also be a mistake. Ouch! The truth hurts. Some people go on highly restrictive diets that cause more harm than good. Diets such as chicken diet or starvation diet are not the way to go. Starving oneself will help one lose weight in a painful way and at the end of the day, one will still regain that weight. When one starves oneself, one's body begins to adjust to starvation and reduces its metabolism and shifts appetite regulating hormones resulting in weight regain. When we then resume normal consumption of food after losing weight, one's body decides to restock the reserves one used up and one is back to square one. Chicken diet on the other hand can cause nutrient imbalance which could result in many horrible diseases that I wouldn't want to scare anyone with as that is not the point of this post. Just make sure you are not on a diet that is not good for your health. I love you and I want to see you achieve your desired goals.
