‘I hope you get 200’- Gov Nasir El-Rufai mocks Peter Obi’s supporters over plans to host two-million-man march in Kaduna
WE'LL USE OUR VOTES AGAINST THOSE WHO SAY RIVERS DON'T MATTER -WIKE
Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that anybody who despises the political capability of the State will be meted with the same treatment.
Governor Wike made the declaration at the inauguration of the Orochiri -Worukwo (Waterlines junction) Flyover that was performed by the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Port Harcourt on Monday.
The Rivers State governor explained that the dynamics of contemporary politics has made it unpopular to just gift votes away without the assurance of derivable benefit for the people.
"If you say Rivers State does not matter, Rivers State will tell you that you don't also matter at the appropriate time. If you don't like us, we will not like you. If you like us, we will like you.
"Nobody will use our votes for nothing. Our votes will matter and Rivers State must benefit from anybody that we are going to support.
"Politics now is no longer just vote for somebody, it is about what you will do for the people of Rivers State."
Governor Wike pointed to how difficult it will be for any conspirators to upset the voting pattern of Rivers State and support for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The governor reiterated that those who looted the treasury of the State will not be supported to become governor of Rivers State.
"My guest from Lagos State, let nobody tell you story that anybody will come here to win as governor of Rivers State. It will not happen.
"Those who looted the treasury of the State will not come here to be governor of Rivers State and I have challenged them.
"I am fully in charge. I am not that kind of governor people will go to Abuja and hold meetings against. I am fully in charge here."
Governor Wike also berated Mr. Yemi Adebowale over his ThisDay publication in which he peddled misinformation in his 'RingTrue' column article titled, " Wike, a Governor Possessed By Spirit of Flyovers."
The governor noted the obvious u

Uduak Akpan, the killer of late job seeker, Iniobong Umoren, in Akwa Ibom state attempted to escape after he was sentenced to death by hanging but was stopped by prison officers.
Suddenly, life became important to him and he tried to save himself from dying.
I keep telling people, there is nothing profitable in crime. It always ends in regrets and shame.
The best you can do for yourself is stay away from crimes as much as you can. In fact, run away from it.
You can survive hunger, even pains but when you freedom is taken away from you, you will understand how empty this life is.
Nothing is as priceless as your freedom. Absolutely, nothing.

The Federal Government has defended President Muhammadu Buhari's decision to approve N1.145 billion for the purchase of vehicles for the Republic of Niger.
The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, spoke on the matter while fielding questions after the Federal Executive Council ( FEC) meeting presided over by the President at the State House, Abuja.
“Let me just say that overtime, Nigeria has had to support its neighbours, especially the immediate neighbours to enhance their capacity to secure their countries as it relates to us. This is not the first time that Nigeria had assisted Niger Republic, Cameroon or Chad.
The President makes an assessment as to what is required based on the request of their Presidents. Such requests are approved and interventions are provided.
It is to enhance their capacity to protect their countries, as it relates to security and also to Nigeria.
Nigerians have the rights to ask questions, but also the President has the responsibility to make an assessment of what is in the best interest of the country and I cannot question the decision myself.
I have said the this is not the first time and that Nigeria as a country has provided an intervention to our neighbours. It is in the best interest of Nigeria to do so.” she said
FG purchase N1.4 billion worth of vehicles for Niger Republic
The Federal Government has purchased vehicles worth N1.4 billion to help Niger tackle insecurity.
Channels TV reports that the Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed disclosed this to statehouse correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting today August 3.
According to Ahmed, providing intervention to the neighboring Niger Republic is not new and it is the prerogative of President Muhammadu Buhari who approved the purchase.
She mentioned that President Buhari, whose actions she cannot question, has the right to make his own assessment of situations and give directives accordingly.
She added that the financial support, which is primarily for the purpose of enhancing capacity to protect their territory, based on a request by the Nigerien Government is also in the best interest of the country.
Earlier today, a document from the government granting the approval for the purchase of the vehicles surfaced online.
Mr. Adegbenga Dada, who is a marine engineer and a prince from Eruku in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, has said his wife demands money before s*x.
He said this in a suit filed before a Kwara High Court, sitting in Ilorin.
Dada is seeking the dissolution of his 28-year-old marriage to Roseline Dada over allegation of adultery.
He alleged that his wife is promiscuous and this has affected her domestic duties, adding that she had involved their female children by sending them on errands to collect money from her numerous male friends.
Adegbenga, who is from Kwara, but is based in Lagos, said: "My wife abandoned our bedroom and packed to the guest room. She would insist unless I issue cheque for substantial amount, she would not succumb to my s*xual advances. Any failure to issue cheque will result in total denial.
"The marriage has broken down because my wife and I are no longer able to sit down together to discuss about our lives and that of our children."
He also prayed the court to grant him custody of the three children produced by the union.
Roseline in her response denied the allegations while accusing her husband of adultery.
She, however, said that she was not opposed to the dissolution of the marriage but prayed the court to grant her part ownership of their Lagos building which she said was a joint project executed by her and the petitioner.
During the trial, the petitioner through his counsel, Mr. Josiah Adebayo, said the n**e pictures of the respondent with a lover retrieved from her phone was to add to the weight of the evidence and not to ridicule her.
Delivering her judgement, Justice S.T Abdulqadri granted the dissolution of the marriage, saying she found the evidence presented before the Court on the allegations of adultery against the respondent to be true.

A 23-year-old graduate of Business Administration from York University in Canada, Chinonso Anene, has allegedly committed su!cide in Lagos.
According to reports, Anene reportedly locked himself inside his apartment at House 9, Emmanuel Court, Olusegun Aina Street, Parkview Estate, Ikoyi and thereafter used a pump action gun to shoot himself.
His lifeless body was discovered inside the wardrobe when police officers broke the door to his apartment.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson fo the state police command, SP Benjamin Huydeyin, said
''The DPO Ikoyi Division received a distress call from the Chief Security Officer of Parkview Estate, Mr Daramola, that Chinonso Anene has committed su***de. Based on the report, a team of detectives visited and photographed the scene, the door was forced open and one expended cartridge was recovered.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 (Lagos and Ogun), Adeleke Adeyinka Bode, has lamented the high rate of cultism and internet fraud among police officers.
The AIG, while addressing men of the Ogun State Police command Thursday, July 28, during his visit to the command in Abeokuta, said policemen engaging in criminal activities are sabotaging the efforts of the police force to rid the nation of crimes and giving the force a bad name.
He pointed out that a policeman who belongs to a cult group would do everything to ensure members of his group are protected, even when they have committed an offense.
He warned such officers to desist from acts that may trigger civil unrest like the one that happened during the End SARS protests.
He then charged the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, to fish out cops involved in cultism and cybercrime.
Adeleke said: "If you (police officers) are a cultist I don’t think you should show it to people because it is wrong; and do you know why it is wrong even if you are not wicked? if you belong to a cult group, there is no way you are not going to favour a member of your cult, unless you are not a good cult member.
"In a situation where a police officer is a member of a cult group and people in the society know that he is a cultist, his activities are related to cultism, I think it is sad.
"There are some of our policemen too now that are into cybercrime, popularly know as Yahoo-Yahoo, especially policemen who find themselves in places where we have institutions of higher learning; it is very common.
"You (Commissioner) need to fish them out and you need to preach to them."
He proceeded to warn his men to be more professional and civil while dealing with members of the public to avoid a repeat of the End SARS protest.
He said: "Another EndSARS may lead to the end of the police.
"The criminals that perpetrated that act that time are going to come out more experienced. The mistakes t
Tackle Insecurity within six weeks or face impeachment- PDP Senators threaten President Buhari
Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) caucus in the Nigerian Senate have issued a six-week ultimatum to President Buhari to tackle the worsening state of security across the country or face impeachment.
The Minority Leader of the Senate, Senator Phillip Aduda, made the position of the lawmakers known on Wednesday while briefing reporters at the National Assembly in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The PDP Senators had staged a walkout after the Senate President refused to allow Aduda speak. Senator Aduda had raised a point of order asking the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, to discuss the security situation in the country and the impeachment of President Buhari. However, Senate President who presided over the plenary declined the request of the minority leader, saying the point of order raised fell flat on its face.
Angered by the action of the Senate President, the PDP Senators took turns to walk out of the legislative chamber while the plenary was ongoing.
CAN Gets New President
Most Rev. Daniel Okoh has emerged as the new president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
CAN spokesman Joseph Daramola stated this in a release today.
Okoh is the general superintendent of Christ Holy Church, also known as Nation Builders (Odozi-Obodo).
It is a trying time for religion in the country occasioned by the rampant k!lling of Christians as across the country and kidnapping of priests as recently reported in Ondo and Kaduna states respectively.
It is expected that the new leadership of CAN will take measures to help safeguard Christians in the country and reduce religious tensions.
CAN is made up of five blocs: Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Christian Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (CPFN)/Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), (TEKAN and ECWA Fellowship).
The association is scheduled to hold its general assembly on July 27 which would usher in the new administration.
"Labour Party Female Member Kicks-off Door-to-Door Campaign for Peter Obi" |
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has said that the 2023 presidential election is a two horse race between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Dismissing chances of Labour Party (LP) Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso in the election, Sule said they missed their chance to be strong contenders in the 2023 presidential election when they failed to come together.
Speaking in an interview on Channels Television on Monday July 25, the Governor said both parties are sc****ly popular and lack the national spread to win a presidential election.
He said;
“He is not even popular in Nasarawa State, so I don’t know of the nation. At the national level, based on what we read, there are four political parties that are strong, definitely the APC because we are the ruling party, the PDP because they have an excellent candidate.
“Peter Obi was at one time a governor so he is there also alongside Kwankwaso’s party.
“If you look at all these candidates, with all sense of humility, there are only two candidates at the top and they are Asiwaju and Atiku Abubakar.”
Insisting that he is not writing off Obi and Kwankwaso, Sule however maintained that the two will find it very difficult to break through.
He added that he is certain that the only way Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso could have staged a huge upset was if they had earlier merged their parties.
Sule added;
“Going in they will do very well, I have no doubt in certain regions, but to have the national spread is going to be very difficult because it is people who move political parties, not just the name or the individual at the top.”
2023: If Obi Loses, Then God Created Nigeria To Suffer - Amaechi
Ninety-three-year-old first Republic Aviation Minister, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi has said if for any reason the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi, loses in next year’s presidential poll he (Amaechi) would conclude that God created Nigeria to suffer.
The nonagenarian stated this, weekend, at his country home, in a chat with select journalists while declaring his support for Obi and his running mate, Datti Baba Ahmed.
He warned that nothing untoward should happen to Obi ahead of the 2023 general elections, stating that Nigeria’s situation would worsen if anything happened to him (Obi).
He said, “I don’t think it was just an accident that Peter Obi emerged. I think it was God’s way. If anything happens to him, it would worsen the situation in Nigeria and the situation may degenerate to something non describable.
“If they’re afraid of Obi who is just a beginner, why should they not be eternally afraid? Peter Obi is the only governor who left office and nobody asked him any questions.
“He didn’t know the office of EFCC, ICPC or DSS because of his clean records. The man who succeeded him wanted to leave the country two hours he handed over, meaning he wanted to sneak away.
“Many other governors who left office have been arrested and charged to court but they ran into Senate or APC as a party and today their cases are closed. That’s the kind of rotten country you have. Yet people are suffering, and may continue to suffer
“I don’t think God created us to continue to suffer. The 2023 election is an opportunity he’s provided for us to right the wrongs. You will see how the whole world will embrace Nigeria if Peter Obi wins the election and all the criminals and looters will melt away to Dubai.”

Senate passes bill for states, individuals to supply electricity
The Senate on Wednesday passed the Electricity Bill 2022 to allow states and individuals to generate and distribute electricity.
Chairman of the senate committee, Senator Gabriel Suswam (PDP, Benue), said, “Since electricity is on the concurrent list in the constitution, the bill has allowed state governments to license people who intend to operate mini-grids within the states.”
He said, “The bill also gives legal backing to renewable energy. If you decide to generate one megawatt of power using solar as an energy source, that is also provided for. “That is the only way the power problem would be solved. The space is now open; there is little restriction as to who can generate power and distribute.
What is obtainable now is that any power that is generated must be put on the national grid for transmission and distribution.”
The Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, midway through consideration of the bill, sought to know the role and operational capacity of banks that had taken over Distribution Companies (DisCos) indebted to them. Responding, Senator Suswam explained that the takeover of the DisCos by banks was duly carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE).
He further disclosed that the federal government had disbursed $100m to Siemens to kick-start transmission in the distribution end of the power sector.
Lawan, after the passage of the bill, assured of a quick passage by the House of Representatives followed by assent by President Muhammadu Buhari.
He said, “We believe that this piece of legislation can change the fortunes of the electricity industry in Nigeria for the better.”

A transgender prisoner who got two fellow inmates pregnant at New Jersey's only women's prison has been moved to a men's prison.
Demi Minor, who is serving a 30-year sentence for stabbing her former foster father to death, was moved from the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility to the Garden State Youth Correctional Facility in June.
According to Minor, 27, she was misgendered and abused by guards during the transfer and was even placed on su***de watch after she tried to hang herself while she was being transferred to GSCF.
In a post on her Justice 4 Demi blog, Minor claimed that she was targeted by correctional officers, with one of them mocking her when she asked to be stripped searched by a woman. In a separate post, she claimed she was beaten during the transfer.
She said she was briefly held at New Jersey State Prison, where guards allegedly called her 'a he' over 30 times.
Minor's case gained attention in April when the New Jersey Department of Corrections revealed that she had impregnated two fellow inmates at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility.
The inmate also said that while she was allowed to keep her make-up, she knows wearing it 'is a death wish.'
'I have accepted that I am in a male facility but I have not accepted nor will I ever agree to or accept that I am anything other than a woman who happens to be transgender,' Minor wrote.
In a scathing blog post, Minor accused guards of mistreating her and threatening her.
On one occasion, she said one guard told her 'I don't give a f*** what you do ….there is no camera here ... everyone here is man including you,' Minor alleged.
Minor was briefly in the custody of the New Jersey State Prison, where she said other concerning incidents took place.
