Chronic Allergic Conjunctivitis. (Limbal form)
This is a type of allergic conjunctivitis that have stayed with a patient for a very long time without proper, adequate or any treatment at all. This is a 16 year old patient with a chronic allergic conjunctivitis. Hasn't had any real treatment of the condition.
Signs and symptoms include severe itchy eyes, excessive tearing, redness of the eyes, discolouration of the conjunctiva, inflammation of the conjunctiva, inflammation of the cornea (sometimes), etc.
Treatment includes
1, getting to know what the patient is allergic to and moving him or her away from the causative agent.
2, use of ophthalmic agents topically which are prescribed by your eye doctor(optometrist or ophthalmologist) as prescribed by your doctor
3, use of oral medications and injectibles prescribed by your doctor.
4, being patient with your medications as the patient will start seeing very significant changes with eyes 3 weeks into the treatment.

Today we are going to talk about ASTIGMATISM. ASTIGMATISM is a type of refractive error that occurs when the shape of the cornea is not normal. The cornea has two imaginary lines that are perpendicular to each other and each of these lines has some dioptric powers. When the powers on these lines are not equal then astigmatism occurs. The difference in power can range from very small power to a large power which can lead to some signs and symptoms that are not palatable at all.
Signs and symptoms of astigmatism are blurred vision, eye fatigue, eye strain, headaches, distorted images, etc.

Schirmer's test determines whether the eye produces enough tears to keep it moist. This test is used when a person experiences very dry eyes or excessive watering of the eyes. It poses no risk to the patient. A negative test result is normal. Both eyes normally secrete the same amount of tears.

This is one of our patient's with a complain of having sandy sensation. Schirmer's test was conducted and the result showed the right eye wasn't producing enough tears and the necessary treatment has commenced.
