Good evening all this is our second post on this topic.

Last post we talked about the market scenario were people who do not necessarily have shops or even goods the sell make a living in the market as affiliate marketers.

However online the same strategy is employed. Similar scenario takes place were an affiliate marketer with digital marketing skills takes the

products of a seller, negotiate commissions, Advertise it online, welcome buyers to a "shop"

were they keep them for a short time before bring to them what they want. Leaving them with

the seller while the work away but in most cases, however in most cases this does not happen without them taking the

contact of the buyer so they can checkin on them later to be sure that if they bought the product or not.

I have just done a brief description of the process but you need some basic tools:

A website, digital marketing tools, which will help you to track your prospects and see to it that they get exactly what they are looking for.

AFFILIATE MARKETING 101

Good evening People its a new week

And this week we will be discussing the topic AFFILIATE MARKETING.

Structured in three posts Today, Wednesday and Friday

At the end of the final post on FRIDAY you'll have the opportunity to watch a free video of an affiliate marketing Expert making money in real-time here in Nigeria which hopefully will give you a good head start especially if you believe this is the business for you.

So let's get into it. I will start with my usual market place example.( Optionsng exists to expose online businesses but most online implementations are derived from the physical market places experiences).

There is an interesting phenomenon that plays out at market places.

There are these groups of people who walk around randomly across different sections of the market especially the entrances. They are likely the first people to approach you the moment you arrive the market.

They usually inquire what you want to buy or straight up tell you what they have for you with a wild guess that you want what they have sometimes they are spot on and other times they are way of the mark. However they are not deterred if you tell them you do not want what they offer they do what they should have done first, ask you what you need.

If you oblige they'll do one of 3 things:

1. They'll take you to the right shop to get exactly what you want, the either stay there with you an try to help make you buy or just walk away while you continue negotiating with the vendor.

2. They'll take you to a shop to seat(with some refreshments sometimes) while they go to look for what you want.

3. They will volunteer to take you from shop to shop till you get what you want.

Can I tell you 4 truths about some of those guys or ladies?

1. They know the market well and know how much things are sold, the quality ones and the fakes.

2. They know every section of the market, provision section, meat section, clothing and wears you name it. They know.

3. They have no shop and no goods at all.

4. If you allow them they can save you the stress of searching through the market for the goods you desire especially if you are not used to shopping in that market.

5. They have an agreement of percentage with the shop/goods owners as regards everyone they bring who buys. They can have agreements with many vendors of similar niche in case if one doesn't have what the customer wants. The greater the percentage the more loyal these guys will be to the vendor.

6. They are very aware if you buy from the vendors you they introduce you to you'll likely not need them next time. That's a chance they have to take.

7.Some of them do so well that the customers take their contacts and will reach out to them whenever they need anything. Sometimes the relationship is built to a level were they transfer the money to these guys and they buy for the customer and give them when they come to the market.

These guys/ladies are called affiliate marketers.

On Wednesday's post we'll see how this happens online, the strategies employed and how you too can take advantage of it.

NOW THAT WE'VE FOUND OUR ONLINE SKILL MARKET WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?

It will be the last day of the freelance series.

In our previous post we noted the following:

1. That you have identified your niche (or the business of your skill). And have registered in a section of the market( the online platform were you can be seen) doesn't mean you will be patronized.

Lets pause and talk about that

Actually when you come into a place you need to survey the place understand how they operate, their do's and dont's and sometimes this takes some time (hours sometimes).

Try to see things from all perspectives.

Let me explain, i am actively involved in some businesses.

One of the things i do before i start is to survey and in this case i will come like a complete customer of that service or product. If it is online i will browse through the sites, as many as possible and note down details i observe, when i am done i will list each of the providers/vendors in a scale of preference (A,B,C) and ask myself the following questions:

1. Which one of these service providers would i rather go for? If the answer is provider A

2. Why did i choose provider A? If the answer is that provider A had a better offer

3. What did it take (what sacrifice are they making?) for provider A to be able to give this level of service?(Research assignment).

4. How can i bring myself to give such level of service?( Another Assignment).

5. Who is next in line? lets say its provider B

6. What makes A better ? If the answer is that they do not have as much an offer as A.

7. What does it take to deliver provider B's offer? Could that be a start for me?

Now i know this is sounding like too big a deal and you are beginning to get afraid of
freelancing itself. For a freelancing job you may not need too deep research like this that's why as i earlier said you may need few hours initially but of course you will learn as you grow in it.

However your foremost question should be which freelancer would you hire if you had the money? Why? What does it take to be like that person etc.

All these are important because as a newbie in this "market section" people will not know you so you will need to convince them to try you, when you have made a name for yourself your work speaks for you and the platform is grateful people have to come them because of you and they also help you get noticed.

Now most platforms seek to reward hard workers who have integrity by opening feedback channels on each vendor on their site. In some case they put how many projects completed, jobs done, positive and negative reviews etc. Lest I forget when you are surveying remember you are coming first as a customer have a critical look at the services especially the reviews.

Now it is not enough to look for number of good reviews you also need to see what emphasis the customers make on those good reviews you may notice some words or a specific value being highlighted by more than one customer, take note of it.

If you are looking at bad reviews take note of what the customers are complaining about.

Secondly you also need to survey as a vendor now
In doing so also make effort to see the credentials of other vendors.

Thirdly checkout for how they price their services, if you over price your services you may NEVER get one customer.

When you visit the section you will notice some seemingly difficult jobs which are priced quite low and you will wonder.

TAKE NOTE: Some of these vendors use software to get the job done, you may need to search for online tools to help you do stuff. Whatever tool you need be ready to get it.

Finally if you want to operate outside the section it will be important that you have built your skill (AND BRAND) to an appreciable level (Not necessarily an expert per say) so when you walk among-st other sections of the internet (using advertising) you may meet people who need services from

the business of your skill and offer service but NOTE THIS: The same distrust some street hawkers experience may be the same you may experience. So you need to have an online presence were you can be met and followed up (A website containing physical verifiable address, phone number etc). But even this alone is not enough to convince many but when you are affiliated with a section like mentioned in our previous posts you can leverage on their own reputation.

I will end with a simple advice:

YOUR ONLINE BUSINESS REPUTATION IS BEING NOTED MAKE SURE YOU BUILD A GOOD ONE.

Morning All. Today We will talk about positioning to be IDENTIFIED and SEEN on the internet.

We said in the previous posts that the fact that you had a skill and you were online did'nt mean

you would be seen especially by the people you expect to see you.

The internet is just like regular market, in most organised markets there are different sections,

meat section, vegetable section etc. there are also those in the market who do not have a shop

so they move around the market with their goods advertising and selling across sections,

there are also those who have shops at certain sections but also have boys who pick some of

their goods in smaller chunks (trays, bags etc) and walk across sections and the whole market,

marketing the goods to sell to those who cannot or will not come to their shop so they will be

met outside these sections and if they are lucky they will make sales. This works daily

(depending on what is being sold anyway).

Same thing goes for the internet. First lets start with going to the section that relates to your

skill. The advantage of going to the section of your skill is that there is more trust with people

regisered in those sections. It is believed they are more accountable, much more than the one

on the street, in most cases they have a union, are registered and they know that their conduct

affects the image of that section, in case there is a reason to come back for complain or even

further business they have a location.

However this doesn't take away the fact that street traders still make money of course

depending on what you are offering, there are certain products that you cannot buy off the

street.

Now I have succeeded in taking your mind deep into the market, it was intentional really, let me

now bring you back online (that's what OptionsNg is made for). There are credible online

"sections" were you can find many people who have skills especially digital skills that you can

deliver remotely without meeting the customer. Be it in video format, picture, coding, desktop

applications, copyrighting, proof reading etc. On these platforms just like the organised markets

the world. No not the world but those that are interested, remember not everyone is interested

in what you are skilled for but those interested go to sections like these to search.

have been all these years. This is natural remember its the market sometimes you wish you

had the quality of goods your neighbour has in his or her shop but that doesn't make you

close shop. Some people who sell meat in meat sections go back home with meat unsold while

others sell off theirs you need to know how.
