Today is Earth's Day... April 22, 2024.
Theme: Planet and Plastic. With this theme, the organisation aims to reduce plastic dependency and make the earth plastic-free.
World Earth Day is celebrated every year on 22 April. This annual global observance aims to increase awareness about the issues constantly depleting our planet's health. Moreover, it also educates people about the immediate need to take effective measures to save our planet Earth.
The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970, when a United States senator from Wisconsin organized a national demonstration to raise awareness about environmental issues. Rallies took place across the country and, by the end of the year, the U.S. government had created the Environmental Protection Agency.
Earth Day Activities
Plant a tree or scatter native wildflower seeds to promote clean air and the survival of indigenous wildlife. Host a clothing swap or clothing repair party to encourage your friends (and yourself) to recycle old garments rather than buy new ones. Pick up the plastic in your neighborhood.
You can also go to a park and explore nature.
