*WAEC SETS TO RELEASE 2023 WASSCE RESULT NEXT WEEK*

WAEC will release the 2023 WASSCE results next week

Barring any last minute change, results of the May/June 2023 West African Examination Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) would be released next week.

The Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Mr. Patrick Areghan, told Daily Sun the results would be released in line with council’s 45 days schedule after end of school exam.

The release would brighten the chances of candidates, who wrote the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) as awaiting result candidates.

Areghan confirmed that the council concluded marking of 76 subjects made up of 197 papers on Tuesday, August 1 in 85 marking venues and one-e-marking center.

He disclosed that many examiners finished marking two or three days ahead of the deadline.

“The council is working round the clock to try to beat the deadline. Certainly, the school exam results will be made public next week. There was no problem during the marking of 76 subjects. Even in the South East, the sit-at-home did not affect our marking. The exercise went smoothly without any issue.”

A total of 1,621,853 candidates from 20,851 secondary schools registered for the school examination. Breakdown showed that 798,810 are males, representing 49.25 percent and 823,043 females are 50.75 percent.

Areghan said the statistics showed that there is a further increase and decrease in the number of females and males respectively, compared to the 2022 diet. The candidature for the May/June 2023 WASSCE increased by 13, 868 over the figure of 2022 (1,607,985).

Areghan revealed that an impersonator was arrested in Ibadan contacting schools that he was in charging of marking their students’ answer scripts and made demand to help the students of the schools.

The WAEC boss explained that the alleged impostor examiner was arrested and it was discovered that he was not an examiner, addin

2023: JAMB FIXES DATE TO HOLD POLICY MEETING, SETS TO DECIDE ADMISSION CUT OFF MARKS INTO INSTITUTIONS(DETAILS)

The cut-off for 2023 admissions to universities, polytechnics, and other tertiary institutions will be decided by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on June 24, 2023.

All heads of tertiary institutions and regulatory authorities, including the National Universities Commission, National Board for Technical Education, and the National Commission for Colleges of Education, among others, will be present at the event, which will take place at the National Judicial Institute.

In the weekly bulletin made available to our correspondent by the Director of Public Affairs, JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the board said, “Only two representatives each from respective tertiary institutions, comprising the Head of the Institution and one official of the institution, who shall be nominated by the Head, will be welcomed.

Other critical issues slated for discussion at the Policy Meeting aside from issues emanating from the presentation of the Registrar, JAMB, on the just-concluded UTME are other issues of national importance, particularly as they concern the education sector.

“The meeting is also expected to chart policy directions for the nation’s tertiary institutions, set admission guidelines, present and analyse application statistics, and candidates’ performance, as well as evaluate the 2023 admission exercise.

“Furthermore, the policy meeting, among other things, would decide the acceptable minimum admissible score to be applied in all admissions to be undertaken by all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.”

✍️✍️✍️
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has said that its ongoing warning strike may be extended for 16 weeks due to failure of the Federal Government to meet the union’s demands.
ASUU President, Emmanuel Osodeke, told THE WHISTLER in a phone interview at the weekend that if at the end of its two months strike the government has not made any concrete steps to address their demands, the Union would meet and decide if they should commence a 16-week roll-over strike.

JAMB has disclosed that about 1,121,123 candidates have been registered in the ongoing UTME/DE registration as of March 12th, 2022. This was contained in the weekly bulletin of the board. Prospective candidates are to note that the registration deadline remains March 26th.

JAMB registers 1,121,123 candidates as at March 12th, warns against group registration
JAMB also used the same medium to urge parents (particularly the elite), guardians, and school proprietors to allow candidates to register for the Board’s UTME/DE on their own. In essence, the candidates should be allowed to navigate the registration process on their own.

This is owing to the fact that the registration experience itself, which involves the use of a computer, may prove helpful especially to technophobic candidates in the actual examination as it is computer-based.

Furthermore, experience has shown that most of these intrusive parents, guardians, and school proprietors complicate issues for the candidates. For example, the Board has discovered that most of the problems encountered by a category of candidates, including some products of elitist secondary schools, are traceable to group registration adopted, which invariably leads to a mismatch of candidates' data.

Similarly, the use of postpaid lines or special bundle package has the potential to hinder the delivery of profile codes expected to be delivered to the candidates’ registered SIMs.

Consequently, such requests to get profile codes using a SIM on a postpaid plan or any special package would only result in receiving error responses like: “insufficient credit”, etc because, in the real sense, no money is on the SIM.

However, when such a SIM is recharged with a token not less than fifty naira, the response would be instantaneous as the profile code would be promptly received by the candidate.
