FAQ: How dooes Alumni work and due payment?

Upon graduation with a degree or diploma from the University of Lagos, an individual automatically becomes an alumnus. However, to be considered a financial member and remain active requires the consistent payment of annual dues and participation in alumni activities. Payment of dues allows for voting privileges and eligibility for candidacy in Alumni elections, subject to additional conditions outlined in the constitution such as years since graduation. Active membership status can only be achieved through regular attendance and engagement at alumni events while also paying dues. General Alumni dues are paid towards the national body which oversees all alumni worldwide while State/Region Branches require separate payments depending on one's location such as Lagos, Oyo, Abuja or North America branches. As a member of the Lagos branch, I pay both Lagos Dues and National Dues thereby granting me voting rights at both levels.
Additionally, Faculty Chapters, Department chapters and Class sets exist within the larger Alumni network but not all departments or faculties have active chapters; Engineering, Law and College of Medicine boast particularly active ones while Arts is currently building momentum. It is important to note that if your faculty or department has an active chapter then you may need to become a member by fulfilling their specific requirements including corresponding due payments.
Finally, each class set forms its own micro unit within the Alumni group which means that if they are actively functioning then it may also require some form of due payment for membership purposes.

N.B

The N1,000 is for Lagos Branch, if you pay only just that you have says in only the Lagos Branch and can attend only the AGM of where you pay, if you pay for national too you have the privilege to attend her AGM as well and be part of her those who make decision vote and be voted for

RE: EXECUTIVE WORKING VISIT TO THE UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS FACULTIES

Yesterday marked a significant stride in our commitment to the continuous growth and development of our esteemed Alma Mater as the executive team of the University of Lagos Alumni Association embarked on a working visit to the School of Post Graduate Studies, the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, and the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Led by the indefatigable Chairman of the Association, Comrade Owoeye-Adedeji Adeyemo (OVO), the visit was not just a tour but an opportunity to establish a harmonious working relationship with the management of these faculties. It provided a platform for firsthand information gathering on the multifaceted issues and challenges within these faculties, to document these issues for prompt attention and action.

Today, we continue this critical engagement with other faculties, reinforcing our commitment to making the needs of the University a top priority. We believe that our role does not end at being proud products of this great institution, but also includes being active participants in its growth and development.

The information gathered will aid the Association in our strategic planning and engagement with potential sponsors and partners both within and outside the Alumni community. These actions are geared towards fostering an environment that not only enhances learning but also ensures that our University continues to be a beacon of academic excellence.

We wish to assure all stakeholders that the University of Lagos Alumni Association remains dedicated to its mission of supporting the University and its students through effective collaboration and partnerships.
